Abstract

General biology teaching materials are learning resources used by first batch students of all majors at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Unimed. General Biology teaching materials based on current investigations, namely to respond to the industrial revolution 4.0 must be in accordance with the BSNP. This General Biology teaching material was validated by 2 lecturers who are in charge of the General Biology course. Dissemination to see the effectiveness of General Biology teaching materials through trials. The step was taken through a small group of 10 students who took the General Biology lecture, the result of which was to get an A grade of 80% and a B grade of 20%. The large group test of 43 biology students class of 2020 by giving a test, the results of which were 77% A, 21% B, and 2% C, means that the expected learning indicators have been achieved. General Biology teaching materials are distributed to General Biology lecturers. General Biology teaching materials are appropriate based on the National Education Standards Agency (BSNP).

Abstract

The existence of cognitive assessments in learning media that does not require much consideration for their feasibility as a measuring tool is one of the problems that arise because it can cause misinformation obtained by the teacher. The purpose of this study was to determine the construct validity and content of the cognitive assessment instrument and the validity of the questions, the reliability of the questions, the distinguishing power of the questions, and the level of difficulty of the questions on the cognitive assessment instruments to be used in general biology learning media. The research method used is descriptive quantitative through a survey involving one expert and 58 students of the Biology Education study program of IKIP Budi Utomo. The research limitation is a cognitive assessment of microbiology material in general biology courses. The type of instrument analyzed is a test. The results obtained are that the cognitive assessment instrument has a valid level of validity from the aspect of construct and content, the validity of the questions in the valid category, the reliability of the questions is moderate, the discriminatory power of the questions is good, and the level of difficulty of the questions is moderate. The conclusion is that the cognitive assessment instrument is appropriate to be used as an appropriate measuring tool for microbiology material in general biology learning media.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a negative impact on the life system in Indonesia, one of which is the education system. This study aims to analyze the use of online learning applications during the Covid-19 pandemic in biology subjects at SMAN 2 Rantau Utara. This research was quantitative research with a descriptive method. The sample of this research was the students of class XI MIA SMAN 2 Rantau Utara totaling 179 students who were taken by total sampling technique. The research instrument was in the form of a questionnaire on the use of online learning applications distributed through Google Forms and interview guidelines. Data analysis was carried out by calculating the percentage of scores obtained. The results showed that the online learning applications used by class XI MIA students of SMAN 2 Rantau Utara during the covid-19 pandemic were Google Meet at 57%, and Google Classroom at 43%. The indicators obtained for using online learning applications during the Covid-19 pandemic were: (1) Display of features/facilities in online learning applications used was 74%, (2) Interest in online learning applications used was 58.2%, (3) The provision of materials/tasks in the online learning applications used was 56.8%, (4) the independence of students towards online learning applications used in learning was 46.2%, and (5) the implementation of learning that occurred while using the online learning applications used by 42.6%. The use of online learning applications for biology subjects conducted online was a good solution to dealing with problems in the education system in the era of the covid-19 pandemic.

Abstract

Prospective teachers are required to have adequate scientific literacy skills to support the achievement of the National SDGs 2030 goals. Research is needed that aims to analyze the level of scientific literacy skills of students of the 2018 Biology Education Study Program, Medan State University in the Plant Physiology course which was held at UNIMED in May-July 2021. This study uses a mixed descriptive method with a sequential explanatory strategy. The sample in this study amounted to 76 students who were determined through a random sampling technique. The data in this study were collected through a closed questionnaire and an observation sheet for the KKNI Plant Physiology assignment. This study uses descriptive statistical analysis techniques for quantitative data, questionnaires, and interactive analysis for qualitative data, the KKNI's task observation includes three activity lines, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results obtained through questionnaires showed that the scientific literacy skills of Biology education students at the State University of Medan in the Plant Physiology course were in the high category with a percentage of 63.72%. Meanwhile, the scientific literacy ability of Biology education students at the State University of Medan based on the task analysis of the KKNI for the Plant Physiology course is in the low category with a percentage of 55.69%.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe how the application of authentic assessment conducted by high school/vocational biology teachers in Langkat Regency. This study used a qualitative approach with the type of direct survey research. The sample used in this study was 15 samples of Biology Teachers From 4 different high schools in Langkat Regency including SMA Negeri 1 Stabat, SMA Negeri 1 Tanjung Pura, SMAS Preparation Stabat and SMAS Tunas Bangsa. Authentic assessment includes several aspects, namely behavior, knowledge and skills or talents. But in reality, from the results of questionnaires, interviews, and observations, it was found that the results of implementing authentic assessment had not been fully carried out by some biology teachers. Obstacles experienced by biology teachers in authentic assessment include the lack of training for biology teachers, delivery of material during training makes biology teachers less able to understand authentic assessment and explain all aspects contained in the 2013 curriculum, the number of students who must be assessed individually by biology teachers, limited time to conduct assessments, and the facilities and infrastructure available at schools have not been used optimally. The large number of students who are assessed individually requires a lot of time to carry out the assessment. Therefore, teachers feel confused in dividing their time in advance with infrastructure that cannot be utilized optimally.

Abstract

This study examined to find out the review of media experts, teachers, and students on Quizizz and the increase of student learning outcomes to the application of Quizizz in 11th grade of Public high school majoring in science at SMA Negeri 1 Sumbul. The population of this study was 11th grade science students. The sample used in this study was 61 students using simple random sampling technique. The method used a descriptive mixed method. Data were collected using questionnaires and interviews, and student grade lists. The results showed that the application of Quizizz had received a score of 71 (good category) from media experts, a score of 91,2 (excellent category) from the teacher, a score of 94 (excellent category) from students, and N-Gain scores in student learning outcomes of 0,71 (high category). The highest N-Gain score was on the indicator of determining the nutritional content contained in foodstuffs by conducting a food test.

Abstract

This research aims to describe students' understanding of the use of Google Classroom for learning protist material in class X SMA Negeri 1 Bilah Hulu in the odd semester of the 2021-2022 academic year and to determine student learning outcomes while using Google Classroom on Protista material in class X SMA Negeri 1 Bilah Hulu semester odd for the 2021-2022 school year. The research method used is descriptive quantitative. The sampling technique is purposive sampling. The purposive sampling technique in this study is seen in students' activeness in class. The results of this study indicate that class X MIA 1 and X MIA 2 obtained an average score and score on the questionnaire using Google Classroom, which is a score of 3.8 with a value of 77, which is in the understanding category but requires a slight improvement, this is because students still need to understand the features of using Google Classroom.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the feasibility level of digestive system learning multimedia developed using Android Studio as a source of student self-study based on the responses of material experts, media experts, biology teacher, and students. The research used a 4-D model of instructional development design, including the define, design, develop, and disseminate stages, limited to the limited deployment stage to see students' classical learning completeness. Research preparation began in September – January 2022. Product trials are carried out at SMA Negeri 1 Kutabuluh. The results showed that the Learning Multimedia that had been developed was feasible to be used as a source of student self-study because it met the eligibility criteria with an average score of 4.3 from material experts who were included in the very good criteria, an average score of 4.4 from media experts who included in the very good criteria, the average score of 4.9 from the subject teachers included in the very good criteria, and the average score of 4.82 from the large group trial students who were included in the very good criteria. Classical learning completeness of students in a limited distribution got a percentage of 94%.

Abstract

This study aims to develop and test the feasibility of digital comic-based learning media and to examine its effect on student’s learning outcome in cell material. Learning media was developed according to the 4D development model of Thiagarajan which consisted of four stages, namely define, design, develop and disseminate. Media was validated by contentl expert, media expert, and learning expert. The suggestion from biology teacher and students of class XI MIA 2 SMA Negeri 2 Percut Sei Tuan were asked. The data of study were obtained through validation instruments, questionnaires, and cognitive test. Data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The result of the study showed that the developed comic media was considered very feasible by material expert (94,38%), media expert (89,34%), and learning expert (96,00%). Comic was considered very feasible too both by biology teachers (93.22%) and by students (92.38%).  The results of the paired sample t-test on the pre-test and post-test score of 0.00 > 0.05 indicate that the post-test score is bigger than the pre-test score. The data showed that the result of cognitive test had increased significantly after using the developed digital comic media.

Abstract

This study aims to produce a Focusky application-based learning media on the material structure and function of valid plant tissues. This research uses the Research and Development (R&D) method and the ADDIE model. Data were obtained by validating learning media to media experts, material experts, and teachers and looking at student response questionnaires to the media developed by conducting limited validity trials. The validation results by media experts showed an average of 92.5% (very valid). The results of material expert validation get an average of 93.33% (very valid). The validation results by three teachers who teach Biology subjects get an average of 96% (very valid). The students' responses from the three schools averaged 93.9% (very good). Based on the validation results from experts, biology teachers, and student responses, it was found that the learning media product based on the Focusky application on the material structure and function of plant tissue was categorized as very valid for use in learning.
