Abstract

Adolescence is a critical period in identity formation, yet it is often marked by an imbalance between the ideal self and self-actualization, which can affect self-confidence and learning motivation. Personal Review training is a reflective approach designed to help adolescents understand their potential, align their ideal self, and enhance self-actualization. This community engagement program was conducted at SMA Negeri 1 Barru on June 19, 2025, involving 50 students from grades X and XI aged 15–18 years. The implementation methods included coordination with the school, development of questionnaires, interactive education sessions, and evaluation through pre-test and post-test. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ knowledge after education, with the proportion of students in the good knowledge category increasing from 60% to 86%, while the poor category decreased from 12% to 0%. This program proved effective in fostering reflective awareness, intrinsic motivation, and self-regulation skills among adolescents. These findings highlight that Personal Review can serve as a school-based intervention model to support character development and adolescent capacity building.

Abstract

Early marriage remains a serious issue among adolescents and has significant impacts on physical health, psychological well-being, and educational sustainability. Adolescents who marry at a young age are at higher risk of pregnancy complications, maternal mortality, and psychological immaturity, which may lead to household conflict, domestic violence, and divorce. Therefore, improving adolescents’ knowledge regarding the impacts of early marriage is an important strategy for its prevention. This community service activity aimed to enhance students’ understanding of early marriage and its negative consequences. The activity was conducted using lectures, discussions, and question-and-answer sessions, supported by digital comic media and pocket books, in August 2025. The participants were 50 tenth- and eleventh-grade students of SMA Negeri 8 Muara Jambi who attended the socialization session in a single main room. The evaluation results showed a significant increase in knowledge, with the mean score rising from 4.5 before the intervention to 7.6 after the intervention, indicating an average increase of 3.1 points. These findings demonstrate that educational interventions using digital comics and pocket books are effective in improving students’ knowledge about early marriage and its consequences. Support from school principals and guidance and counseling teachers is expected to further strengthen efforts to prevent early marriage in the school setting

Abstract

The elderly population has shown an increase compared to the previous year. Along with this increase in the number of elderly, non-communicable diseases (NCDs), especially heart disease, have become one of the largest contributors to the decline in elderly health. To anticipate delays in treatment, educational breakthroughs are needed to encourage the public to detect early and adopt anticipatory lifestyle habits to better control triggers of heart disease. The purpose of this education is to determine the level of elderly knowledge about heart disease using the game method. Games are one approach to stimulate the elderly's brain. Based on the results of the activity, the level of elderly knowledge before the education was obtained, 19 of 30 elderly (63%) had sufficient knowledge. After the education, 27 (90%) elderly had good knowledge. The methods used during the education were games, questions and answers, and competitions. Games are the method of choice in increasing elderly knowledge because the method is presented in an interesting and easily accepted manner. This method can be an option for local community leaders in developing activity programs when providing education to the elderly.

Abstract

Chronic nutritional problems in toddlers are caused by insufficient nutritional intake over a long period of time due to providing food that does not meet nutritional needs. Mothers play a role in feeding children, known as responsive feeding. Community Service Activities aim to improve the knowledge and practice of responsive feeding of toddler mothers before and after being given a responsive feeding intervention. This activity was carried out on August 15, 2025, in Labuh Air Pandan Village. Responsive feeding interventions include measuring body length/height, health education about responsive feeding, and demonstrations of making complementary foods. The implementation method was lectures, demonstrations, discussions, and questions and answers. The media used was PowerPoint. The results of the community service showed that the average knowledge of mothers after being given a responsive feeding intervention was higher at 81.3 compared to the average knowledge of mothers before being given a responsive feeding intervention of 54.20. In addition, there was an increase in responsive feeding practices before being given an intervention of 30% to 60% after being given a responsive feeding intervention, including the good category. Responsive feeding is important to be implemented by toddler mothers so that children's growth and development are optimal.

Abstract

The number of older adults in Indonesia, particularly in Makassar City, has led to a growing demand for preventive, promotive, curative, and rehabilitative health services. Older adults are vulnerable to declines in lower-limb muscle strength, balance, and an increased risk of falls, all of which affect their quality of life. This community service program was designed to provide comprehensive management through education, functional screening, and physiotherapy interventions in the form of elderly exercise programs and Otago Exercise balance training. Elderly exercise has been shown to reduce depression, improve sleep quality, enhance respiratory function, and strengthen social interaction. Meanwhile, the Otago Exercise focuses on improving lower-limb muscle strength, enhancing both static and dynamic balance, and preventing falls. Muscle strength screening was conducted using the Two Minute Step Test. The program’s implementation demonstrated improvements in physical fitness, balance, and independence in daily activities among older adults. With a structured functional physiotherapy approach, this program is expected to provide a sustainable solution for improving the physical, psychological, social, and cognitive health of the elderly.

Abstract

Water is a vital necessity for human life, thus the quality of clean water must be maintained. However, observations in the Percut Sei Tuan River, Medan Tembung, revealed poor water quality characterized by turbidity, odor, and color changes caused by domestic and industrial pollution. To address this problem, a training program on constructing simple water filters using local materials such as sponge, activated carbon, coconut fiber, and gravel was conducted for Physics students of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Negeri Medan. The activities included a pretest, field observation, hands-on filter construction, and a posttest. Results showed that the students’ average pretest score of 25.94 increased to 49.25 in the posttest, with a normalized gain of 0.32 categorized as moderate. The improvement covered knowledge, technical skills, and environmental awareness. The training effectively enhanced students’ conceptual understanding while providing practical experience in designing simple and eco-friendly solutions for turbid water problems in the community. This program proved not only academically relevant but also valuable in fostering environmental awareness.

Abstract

Background: The low coverage of VIA screening indicates that awareness among women of reproductive age regarding the importance of early detection of cervical cancer still needs to be improved. This condition highlights the need for more effective and acceptable health promotion strategies, particularly through the use of educational media that are appropriate to the characteristics of the target population. Objective: This community service activity aimed to improve VIA screening behavior among women of reproductive age through health promotion using leaflet and audiovisual media, as well as to compare the outcomes of both media. Methods: The activity was conducted in the form of health promotion for women of reproductive age who were divided into two groups, namely a leaflet group and an audiovisual group. A total of 100 women of reproductive age who met the target criteria participated in this activity. Behavioral evaluation was carried out through observation of participants’ participation in undergoing VIA screening at health service facilities. An evaluative analysis was performed to assess differences in the outcomes of health promotion between the two groups. Results: The evaluation results showed that in the group receiving health promotion using leaflet media, 28% of participants underwent VIA screening, while 72% did not. In contrast, in the group receiving health promotion using audiovisual media, 64% of participants underwent VIA screening and 36% did not. Comparative analysis indicated a meaningful difference between the use of leaflet and audiovisual media in encouraging VIA screening behavior.
