Abstract

The World Health Organization (WHO) in 2013 stated that anemia is one of the health problems worldwide, especially in developing countries. As many as 30% of the world's population is estimated to suffer from anemia, especially adolescents and pregnant women. The prevalence of anemia in adolescents in the world ranges from 40% -88%. The 2018 Riskesdas report stated that the prevalence of anemia in Indonesia is around 22.2% in the age group ≥ 15 years. The prevalence of anemia in urban adolescent girls in Jambi Province is 9.0%. Anemia causes a decrease in reproductive health function, inhibits the development of intelligence, motor skills and mental which results in decreased learning achievement. If adolescent girls suffer from anemia from the start, it will be very dangerous for pregnancy and childbirth if they later marry and become mothers. One of the factors that influences the occurrence of anemia is iron deficiency. Foods that can increase the absorption of iron, especially non-heme iron, are vitamin C and certain sources of animal protein, such as meat and fish. Handling anemia with food ingredients is still rarely done even though it has great potential to prevent anemia, especially in adolescent girls. This study aims to determine the description of the use of local food to prevent anemia in adolescent girls. This research method is descriptive research with a cross-sectional approach. The population of this study were all female students at SMAS Adhyaksa 1 Jambi City with a sample of 31 people using the Slovin formula. Samples were taken using a simple random sampling technique. This study was conducted from October 2023 to August 2024 at SMAS Adhyaksa 1 Jambi. The results showed that almost half of the female adolescents often (1x/day) consume protein (41.9%), vegetables 3-6x/week (48.4%), fruits 3-6x/week (45.2%). More than half of the female adolescents never consume iron tablets (58.1%) and tea/coffee with meals (54.8%). A small number of female adolescents rarely consume milk (38.7%). Local foods for preventing anemia that are most widely consumed by female adolescents at SMAS Adhyaksa 1 are red meat (animal protein source), tempeh (vegetable protein source), spinach (vegetables) and oranges (fruits). It is hoped that schools can increase education about the use of local food to prevent anemia and for young women, they can increase their intake of diverse local food to prevent anemia from occurring early on.

Abstract

Cardiac catheterization is an invasive procedure for coronary heart disease that can trigger anxiety. This anxiety activates the HPA axis and the sympathetic nervous system, which increases heart rate and blood pressure, worsening cardiovascular conditions and raising the risk of complications such as bleeding and vascular occlusion. Therefore, patient anxiety before catheterization must be addressed to prevent complications. Spiriziomacare is a spiritual intervention that combines dhikr (remembrance of God) and aromatherapy to reduce anxiety. This study aims to assess the effect of Spiriziomacare on anxiety and vital signs in pre-cardiac catheterization patients. Using a pre-experimental design with a one-group pre and post-test design, a purposive sampling technique was applied to 40 patients at RSUD Raden Mattaher Jambi. Data collected included demographic information, anxiety scores, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, heart rate, and respiratory rate. The results show a significant reduction in systolic blood pressure (from 132.63 to 129.63 mmHg), diastolic blood pressure (from 83.10 to 83.15 mmHg), heart rate (from 80.13 bpm to 77.93 bpm), and respiratory rate (from 22.4 to 21.65 breaths per minute) after the intervention. Bivariate analysis revealed a significant effect of Spiriziomacare on anxiety (p=0.000), systolic blood pressure (p=0.015), diastolic blood pressure (p=0.017), heart rate (p=0.045), and respiratory rate (p=0.000). Spiriziomacare effectively reduces anxiety and stabilizes the vital signs of patients before cardiac catheterization.

Abstract

Anesthesia given to patients undergoing cesarean section can slow down gastrointestinal motility because it impedes nerve stimulation for peristalsis, leading to effects such as abdominal distension and even paralytic ileus. Several strategies and non-pharmacological interventions can be applied to enhance intestinal peristalsis, such as chewing gum to stimulate intestinal motility through the cephalic-vagal reflex, and early mobilization, which helps restore circulation more quickly, thus ensuring that the body's nutritional and oxygen needs are met. The urgency of this study lies in the combination of chewing gum and early mobilization as nursing interventions that simultaneously stimulate parasympathetic nerves to the intestinal muscles. The aim of this study is to assess the effect of combining chewing gum and early mobilization on the improvement of intestinal peristalsis and flatus in post-cesarean section patients. This study uses a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pre-post test design approach. The sample in this study consisted of 50 cesarean section patients, with a non-probability sampling technique using consecutive sampling from patients undergoing cesarean surgery at Bhayangkara Hospital in Jambi. Data were collected using demographic questionnaires and checklists. The analysis using the paired t-test showed significant results (p < 0.05), indicating that the combination of chewing gum and early mobilization has an effect on increasing intestinal peristalsis and accelerating the first passage of flatus. The results of this study indicate that the combination of chewing gum and early mobilization leads to waves of intestinal motility, with an increase in parasympathetic nerve activity causing the release of acetylcholine, which in turn enhances the conduction of peristaltic waves along the intestinal wall, thereby improving intestinal motility and accelerating the time to first flatus. It is recommended that nurses implement these interventions to enhance intestinal peristalsis and accelerate the time to first flatus after a cesarean section.

Abstract

The natural role of women includes pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding. However, these joyous moments can sometimes become frightening or even traumatic, especially for first-time mothers. Many expectant mothers feel pressured and fear that they will not be able to provide breast milk (ASI) for their babies. This fear often leads to real difficulties in breastfeeding. Breast milk is the best food for babies up to the age of two years. UNICEF states that exclusive breastfeeding can prevent up to 1.3 million deaths in children under the age of five. In Indonesia, many mothers still do not provide exclusive breastfeeding to their babies, and only a small percentage of newborns are breastfed within the first hour of life. The main reason for not breastfeeding or never breastfeeding is the lack of milk production, leading to the introduction of formula milk for infants aged 0-5 months. This research is a descriptive study with a cross-sectional approach. The study was conducted at the Putri Ayu Public Health Center in Jambi City from October 2023 to July 2024. The population in this study consists of all pregnant women at the Putri Ayu Public Health Center, and the sample was selected using accidental sampling techniques. Data analysis was performed using univariate analysis. The research findings indicate that mothers' knowledge about the utilization of local food to increase breast milk production involved 18 respondents. The majority of respondents (60%) had a moderate level of knowledge. It is recommended that healthcare providers and families continue to support pregnant women in utilizing local food to enhance breast milk production. This effort aims to achieve the exclusive breastfeeding program, ultimately reducing maternal mortality rates (AKI), infant mortality rates (AKB), and stunting.

Abstract

Anemia in adolescents is caused by several factors including low intake or entry of iron and other nutrients into the body such as vitamin A, vitamin C, folate, riboflavin, B12, and errors in consuming iron, for example when consuming iron together with other substances that can interfere with the iron absorption process. Pineapple (Ananas) is included in the Bromeliaceae family and is one of the fruits that can increase iron absorption in the intestine. Pineapple plants have long been cultivated by farmers in Jambi Province, this plant is cultivated on a commercial scale in Tangkit village, Muaro Jambi Regency. This study aims to determine the increase in knowledge of adolescent girls about the use of pineapple fruit with an analytical research design. The population in this study were adolescent girls with a sample of 30 female students at MAN 1 Muaro Jambi, selected using a proportional random sampling technique. An increase in adolescent knowledge was obtained by 58% and there was a significant effect of the use of booklets in increasing adolescent knowledge about the use of pineapple fruit for anemia prevention with a p value of 0.001 (CI 5%). The output of this research is in the form of increased knowledge, articles in nationally accredited journals and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) booklets which are used as media for this research.

Abstract

The high prevalence of anemia in Indonesia can impact maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. 75% of anemia in pregnant women is caused by iron deficiency. In addition to administering 90 iron tablets during pregnancy, mothers can also consume fruits and plants that can increase hemoglobin levels. To determine the effect of consuming moringa leaves on hemoglobin levels in pregnant women in the Seba Community Health Center (UPTD) work area of Sabu Raijua Regency, East Nusa Tenggara. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a pre- and post-test design, with two groups. Intervention group 1 received moringa leaves and iron tablets, and intervention group 2 received iron tablets alone. Purposive sampling was used for the sampling technique. A total of 40 respondents participated in this study, consisting of 20 respondents in intervention group 1 and 20 respondents in intervention group 2. Hb levels were measured using the Easy-Touch GCHB. Data were analyzed using paired t-tests and independent t-tests. This study found that in intervention group 1, there was an increase in Hb levels of 2.515 g/dl. In intervention group 2, which only received iron tablets, there was also an increase of 0.955 g/dl. The results of the paired t-test showed a difference in Hb levels before and after intervention 1 and 2 (p-value = 0.000 < 0.05). The results of the independent t-test showed an effect of consuming moringa leaves on Hb levels in pregnant women with anemia (p-value = 0.000 < 0.05). The increase in Hb levels was higher when consuming moringa leaves. Pregnant women are advised to consume moringa leaves in addition to regularly consuming iron tablets to optimally increase Hb levels. Health workers can provide an understanding of local plants, especially moringa leaves, as an effort to increase Hb levels

Abstract

Stroke is one of the leading causes of long-term disability and requires continuous management, including rehabilitation and routine follow-up, to prevent recurrence. Optimal recovery depends not only on medical interventions but also on the patient's ability to consistently engage in self-management. One of the psychological factors influencing self-management behavior is the health locus of control, which refers to an individual's belief in their ability to control their health status. This study aims to analyze the relationship between health locus of control and self-management among stroke patients. A descriptive correlational design with a cross-sectional approach was employed, involving 50 respondents selected through total sampling. Data were collected using a standardized questionnaire and analyzed using the Spearman Rank test. The results showed that the majority of respondents (48%) had a moderate level of self-management, and 44% had an internal health locus of control. A significant relationship was found between health locus of control and self-management among stroke patients (p = 0.000), with a correlation coefficient of 0.946 indicating a very strong positive relationship. These findings suggest that the higher an individual’s belief in their ability to control their health, the better their self-management. Therefore, nursing interventions that focus on enhancing health locus of control can serve as an important strategy in the rehabilitation of stroke patients. It is recommended that healthcare professionals, particularly nurses, develop educational programs and psychosocial interventions aimed at strengthening the health locus of control of stroke patients to support long-term success in self-management.
