Abstract

A birth ball is a simple physical therapy or exercise that uses a ball, applied to pregnant women, women in labor, and postpartum women. The benefits of using a birth ball are to increase blood flow to the uterus, placenta, and baby, relieve pressure, and provide comfort to the knees and ankles, as well as provide counter-pressure to the perineum and thighs. This position works with gravity to encourage the baby to descend into the pelvic floor, thereby accelerating the labor process. In addition, using a birth ball can help optimize the baby's position during pregnancy and childbirth, balance the body on the ball to help strengthen the back, and help align the baby in preparation for birth. Objective: To determine the effect of birth ball exercise as a method of reducing pain in mothers in stage 1 of labor at the TPMB Y Health Center in West Cikarang District. Research Method: This study used a pre-experimental design with a pre-test-post-test design. The population consisted of 18 people, and the sample size was 18 respondents who met the inclusion criteria, namely physiologically healthy primiparous and multiparous women in labor at TPMB Y, West Cikarang District, from January to February 2024, without a control group. The data collection process involved filling out pretest and posttest observation sheets for respondents and standard operating procedure (SOP) sheets for the provision of birth ball techniques. Results: Based on the Paired T-Test using SPSS, a P-Value of 0.001 (<0.05) was obtained, so it can be concluded that H1 is accepted, meaning that there is an effect of the birth ball technique on the pain scale in mothers in stage I labor at TPMB Y, West Cikarang District. Conclusion: There is an effect of birth ball exercise on the pain scale in women in the first stage of labor at TPMB Y, Cikarang Barat District.

Abstract

Recurrent stroke is one of the major challenges in patient care, affecting not only the patient’s physical condition but also the psychological well-being of their family. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the frequency of stroke attacks and the anxiety levels of stroke survivor families. This research employs a quantitative descriptive correlational design with a sample of 69 stroke survivor family members selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire on stroke attack frequency and the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS), and analyzed using the Spearman rank test. The results indicate a significant relationship between the frequency of recurrent strokes and family anxiety levels, with a p-value < 0.001 and a correlation coefficient of 0.706, suggesting a strong positive correlation. The more frequent the stroke attacks, the higher the level of anxiety experienced by the patient’s family. Data analysis shows that the majority of families with patients experiencing their first stroke reported mild anxiety (69.6%), while those facing recurrent strokes tended to experience higher levels of anxiety. Increased anxiety is influenced by uncertainty regarding the patient's condition, financial burden, and emotional demands of caregiving. Based on these findings, it is recommended that healthcare professionals provide education on preventing recurrent strokes and stress management strategies for stroke survivor families to help reduce anxiety and improve their quality of life.

Abstract

The decline in dynamic balance often experienced by the elderly poses a high risk of falling. These six types of balance exercises can provide motor and sensory stimulation to the body. Motor stimulation provided in the form of muscle contractions can increase muscle strength so that it can affect dynamic balance, while sensory stimulation will improve proprioceptive function. Objective: to determine the effect of six types of balance exercises on improving dynamic balance in the elderly. Method: One group pretest posttest design with 30 elderly subjects aged 60-75 years who were given six types of balance exercises in each session was 20 minutes, 2-3 times a week up to 10 sessions. Measurement: Functional Reach Test (FRT) and Time Up and Go Test (TUG). Analysis: Normality test with Shapiro Wilk and pretest-posttest difference test with paired T-test. Results: Based on the analysis of the normality test with Shapiro Wilk on the pretest and posttest, the results obtained p>0.05 which means the data is normally distributed. Meanwhile, the analysis of the pretest-posttest difference test with paired T-test produced a dynamic balance value before and after six types of balance exercises of p<0.05 (p=0.000); and also produced a dynamic balance value before and after six types of balance exercises with TUG of p<0.05 (p=0.000). This means that there is a significant difference between before and after treatment when measured by the Functional Reach Test (FRT) and Time Up and Go Test (TUG). Conclusion: Six types of balance exercises improve dynamic balance in the elderly

Abstract

Menstrual pain (dysmenorrhea) is a health problem often experienced by fertile women and can disrupt daily activities. The prevalence of dysmenorrhea in Indonesia is quite high, with 54.98% primary dysmenorrhea and 9.36% secondary dysmenorrhea. The use of natural ingredients such as ginger is a popular alternative because ginger contains high levels of essential oils and the chemical content of gingerol in ginger can block prostaglandins, thereby reducing pain during menstruation. Ginger is also readily available and inexpensive. This study aims to determine the effect of ginger water on dysmenorrhea pain in adolescent girls in the Danausipin sub-district of Jambi City. The research method used was a pre-experimental design with a one-group pre-post test. The sample was 22 adolescent girls who experienced menstrual pain and were willing to be respondents. Menstrual pain was measured before and after ginger water administration using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). The results of the study showed that before the intervention, 50% of the pain scale felt was mild and moderate menstrual pain, after the intervention, 22.7% did not experience pain and 63.6% experienced mild pain. There was an effect of giving ginger water on reducing menstrual pain with a P value of 0.000. Ginger water can be used as an alternative natural treatment for menstrual pain
