Abstract

The transformation of the digital economy presents new challenges for the Islamic business law system, which is based on the principles of justice, transparency, and blessing. The dynamics of the digital economy, such as e-commerce, fintech, and blockchain, require the reconstruction of Islamic business law to remain relevant and responsive to contemporary developments. This study aims to analyze the necessity of reconstructing Islamic business law in response to the digital economy transformation, using a qualitative approach based on literature review. The findings reveal legal vacuums, a lack of specific regulations, and challenges in integrating Sharia principles into the digital ecosystem. Therefore, regulatory updates, the strengthening of Sharia economic legal literacy on social media, and innovation in digital economic fatwas are needed to build a fair, sustainable, and Sharia-compliant business ecosystem aligned with the maqāṣid al-sharī’ah.Keywords : digital economy, fintech Sharia, Islamic business, legal reconstruction, digital transformation.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the efficiency level of Islamic banking in Indonesia using an intermediation approach and to analyse bank profitability between Islamic commercial banks from 2015 to 2019. The method used in this study is descriptive analysis, Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method. This study found that in the 2015–2019 period, Islamic commercial banks in Indonesia (BRIS, BNIS dan BSM, Bank Muamalat dan Maybank Syariah) in general have not reached a high level of efficiency and there are inefficiencies in the use of inputs and outputs. Third-party funds and labour’s costs affect the financing output. Among those five Islamic commercial banks, the bank obtaining the highest efficiency level, close to 100 points, is BSM, followed by BNIS, then BRIS, BMI, and Maybank. The result of profitability analysis is that the variables NPF, FDR, and inflation simultaneously did not significantly affect the ROA variable. Keywords: efficiency level, profitability, DEA, Islamic commercial bank

Abstract

This research aims to find an optimum point for cash waqf development in Indonesia. It is a literature study using content analysis to provide an alternative scientific study of cash waqf in Indonesia. This study discusses a feasible alternative model for optimizing cash waqf development through a production function approach. It concludes that optimizing waqf with a production approach is greatly influenced by Nadzhir's professionalism. Nadzir's professionalism occurs when there is a breakthrough in many aspects and needs to be facilitated by the government. One of the ways is establishing an education program for cash waqf management at Sekolah Tinggi Akuntansi Negara (STAN), where the graduates become certified professional nadzir and employees under the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia. This breakthrough will optimize cash waqf and positively impact the development of Indonesia and the Muslim community. Keywords : Waqf, Cash Waqf, Development Model

Abstract

Halal MSMEs play a strategic role in the development of the national economy, especially in meeting the needs of the growing halal product market. This study aims to examine how technology-based product innovation can be a primary strategy in increasing the competitive advantage of halal MSMEs. Through a qualitative approach with a literature review, it was found that the use of technologies such as blockchain, digitalization of halal certification, digital marketing, and the use of IoT can improve operational efficiency, supply chain transparency, and expand market reach. However, challenges such as low digital literacy, high technology implementation costs, and infrastructure limitations are still significant obstacles. Great opportunities are open thanks to the growth of the global halal market, government policy support, and the digitalization trend among Muslim consumers. This study emphasizes the importance of strengthening human resource capacity, cross-sector collaboration, and the implementation of adaptive technology-based strategies to strengthen the competitiveness of halal MSMEs in a sustainable manner. Keywords: Halal innovation, MSMEs, digital technology, competitive advantage, digitalization

Abstract

The rapid digital transformation has reshaped the landscape of the financial services sector, including the growth of Islamic finance through the emergence of Sharia-compliant financial technology (fintech) platforms. This study aims to analyze the strategic position of Islamic fintech in Indonesia using a SWOT analysis framework to identify its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats within the digital economy ecosystem. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, this research collects secondary data from various relevant literature and policy documents. The analysis reveals that the primary strength of Islamic fintech lies in its compliance with Sharia principles and its established institutional legitimacy. Its weaknesses include the low level of Islamic financial literacy and a shortage of human resources with dual competencies in both technology and Islamic jurisprudence. Opportunities include strong national policy support for the Islamic economy, a large Muslim market share, and a growing trend toward digitalization. However, Islamic fintech also faces serious threats such as the dominance of conventional fintech entities, data security risks, and suboptimal public trust. These findings highlight the urgent need for integrative strengthening strategies through technological development, improved Islamic financial literacy, and comprehensive policy support, enabling Islamic fintech to play a significant role in promoting inclusive, fair, and sustainable financial development in Indonesia. Keywords : digital economy, financial inclusion, financial literacy, islamic fintech, SWOT analysis

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis paper analyzes the impact of Rupiah exchange rate fluctuations (against USD, JPY, and EUR) on the banking performance in Indonesia. We apply four proxies for bank performance: the intermediation function measured by the Loan-to-Deposit Ratio (LDR), and profitability measured by income from spot derivative transactions (INCSD). In addition to exchange rates, we incorporate bank-specific characteristics, including total assets (ASSET) and loan loss provisions (Provision), as well as macroeconomic variables such as GDP growth, interbank rates (JIBOR), and inflation—following recent frameworks by Nguyen et al. (2022) and Fanta et al. (2021). The dataset includes all commercial banks operating in Indonesia between 2019 and 2024, generating approximately 12,000 observations. Using panel data estimation with fixed and random effects models, this study finds that exchange rate volatility significantly affects bank performance. Specifically, exchange rate movements have a stronger and more consistent impact on intermediation (LDR) than on profitability (INCSD), as indicated by a higher R-squared value (0.9561 for LDR compared to 0.5309 for INCSD), which aligns with findings from Syarifuddin and Haryanto (2023) and Ghosh (2020). Keywords: Exchange rate, bank performance, panel estimation, intermediation, profitability.
