Abstract

Eucalyptus leaves (Melaleuca leucadendra L.) are a type of plant that has antibacterial properties for Klebsiella pneumoniae, which is a bacteria that causes respiratory tract infections (ISPA). Eucalyptus leaves have active compounds thought to have Klebsiella pneumoniae antibacterial activity, namely flavonoids and phenolic, in the ethanol extract of eucalyptus leaves with a concentration of 20%. The gel preparations have the advantage of being easy to dry out, forming a film layer that is easy to wash and gives a cool feeling to the skin. This study aims to make an optimal eucalyptus leaf ethanol extract gel formula with variations of carbopol and Na-CMC optimally using the Simplex Lattice Design (SLD) method. Eucalyptus leaf extraction used the maceration method with 70% ethanol solvent. Determination of the optimal formula using the Simplex Lattice Design (SLD) method using Design Expert 10 software with test parameters for pH, viscosity, adhesion and dispersion power. Verification of the optimal formula used the One sample t-test, and the stability test was carried out using the freeze-thaw method. This study provides optimal formula results with a ratio of 38% carbopol gel base and 62% Na-CMC. The results of the verification test show that the prediction results with the test results are not significantly different, indicated by a p value> 0.05, this shows that the formula for the results of the Simplex Lattice Design (SLD) method is valid as expected including organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, adhesion, and power. spread.

Abstract

Ceftriaxone and cefotaxime are the antibiotics of choice for the treatment of typhoid fever. The effectiveness of antibiotics can be seen based on the length of stay in the hospital. This study aims to determine the characteristics of children with typhoid fever and the comparison of the effectiveness of ceftriaxone and cefotaxime on the length of stay in children with typhoid fever at Mitra Siaga hospital. The study was an observational analytic study with a sample of 100 medical records for children with typhoid fever who had met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The effectiveness analysis was processed using the Mann-Whitney method. The results showed that the characteristics of the children with typhoid fever were 43% female (43 people) and 57% male (57 people), 52% (52 people) patients aged 1-7 years, and 48% (48 people). aged 8-14 years, length of stay 2 days 5% (5 people), 3 days 48% (48 people), 4 days 37% (37 people), 5 days 6% (6 people), 6 days 2% (2 person), 7 days 1% (1 person), and 8 days 1% (1 person). There was no difference in the effectiveness of ceftriaxone and cefotaxime on length of stay in patients with typhoid fever at Mitra Siaga hospital (P = 0.997> 0.05).

Abstract

Cinnamon (Cinnamomum burmannii) leaves extract contains secondary metabolites such as flavonoids, saponins, tannins, alakloids, steroids/terpenoids and phenols. The aims of this study was to examine the anti-inflammatory activity of the ethanolic extract of cinnamon leaves topically and to determine the best concentration for the treatment of inflammation. This research is an experimental research with a post test only control group design approach. The treatment group was devided into 5 groups where each treatment consisted of 7 test animals The treatments included positive control (hydrocortisone acetate 2.5%), negative control (vaselin flavum), ethanol extract of cinnamon leaves with concentrations of 5%, 10% and 20%. The results showed that the ethanolic extract of cinnamon leaves had an anti-inflammatory effect statistically had a significant difference between the treatment groups (p<0.05). The best concentration is 20% then followed by 10% and 5%.

Abstract

Hand sanitizer among the community has a high alcohol content of up to 80% considered not halal products. Whereas according to Muslims related to halal products, alcohol is included in nonhalal products as an alternative to existing alcohol hand sanitizer preparations. So it needs to be made hand sanitizer based on halal and certainly has antibacterial activities. Vinegar is one of the active ingredients that have bacterial activity and has the potential to be made in gel hand sanitizer formulations. The aim of this research is to make a hand sanitizer formulation that meets SNI standards. The hand sanitizer will be made using a vinegar base made from apples with a formula of 5; 7.5 and 10%. This active ingredient formula is made into the gel with the use of other ingredients such as carbopol, TEA, methylparaben, glycerin, and aqua dest. The gel hand sanitizer formula is then conducted physical properties test to obtain SNI standards such as organoleptic test with five senses, pH with stick pH, viscosity, in addition to being tested anti-irritant with skin surface smear method. As for data analysis used one-way anova method with SPSS software. The results showed that the gel hand sanitizer formula of vinegar organoleptic and homogeneity has met the standards in addition to the viscosity of adhesion to irritant test. However, the pH and spread values have not met the standards.

Abstract

The leaves of singkil (Premna corymbosa) empirically contain various secondary metabolite compounds, one of which is flavonoids that can be used as asthma medication, antitumor, worm infection, and reduce bad breath. Drying is one of the stages of making simplicia which is done so that simplicia is not damaged. This study aims to determine the effect of drying method on total flavonoid content in singkil leaf extract. The research method used is experimental. The research phase included sampling, plant determination, drying simplicia with oven temperature of 50oC and drying in an open space protected from indirect sunlight, extraction by maceration, phytochemical screening, determination of total flavonoid content. The assay method used was colorimetric using UV-Vis spectrophotometer with AlCl3 reagent and quercetin standard. The calibration curve was made for 5 concentrations, namely 12.5; 15; 17.5; 20; and 22.5 ppm. The absorbance was calculated at a wavelength of 415 nm and the reading was used as a determinant of the total flavonoid content of the singkil leaf extract. The results showed that the simplicia drying method could significantly affect the total levels of singkil leaf extract, with the total flavonoid content of singkil leaf extract using the drying method of 2.27±0.02% while the total flavonoid content of singkil leaf extract using the 50oC oven method was 1, 50±0.02%.

Abstract

Daun salam (Syzygium polyanthum (Wight.)) mengandung senyawa polifenol yang bermanfaat dalam pengobatan hiperkolesterolemia dengan menurunkan kadar low density lipoprotein (LDL). Bentuk sediaan mikrogranul mukoadhesif mampu memperpanjang waktu kontak zat aktif dengan mukosa sehingga efek terapi lebih baik. Penelitian ini bertujuan membuat mikrogranul mukoadhesif ekstrak daun salam dengan perbedaan polimer Hidroksi Propil Metil Selulosa (HPMC) dan kitosan. Sediaan dibuat sebanyak 4 formula yaitu formula I (HPMC 25%), formula II (HPMC 30%), formula III (Kitosan 25%) dan formula IV (Kitosan 30%). Mikrogranul dibuat dengan metode granulasi basah. Parameter pengujian mikrogranul meliputi kadar air, laju alir, sudut diam, ukuran partikel, kadar polifenol total, uji wash off dan uji morfologi. Hasil penelitian mikrogranul mukoadhesif ekstrak daun salam menunjukkan seluruh formula memiliki kadar air < 5%, laju alir dan sudut diam termasuk mudah mengalir. Ukuran mikrogranul berada pada range 48,7 – 637 µm dengan kadar polifenol total 4,15 – 4,27%. Hasil uji wash off menunjukkan kadar polifenol total mikrogranul di lambung 1,33 - 3,23 % (31,97 - 75,63%) dan di usus 1,26 – 3,76% (27,95 - 88,03%). Mikrogranul mukoadhesif ekstrak daun salam terbaik menggunakan polimer HPMC 30%.

Abstract

Formalin or formaldehyde belongs to a group of strong disinfectant compounds that are often used as corpse preservatives, but can also be used food preservatives and additives, formalin can damage the body if consumed in excess. This research aims to find out the content of formalin in The Stone Head Salted Fish located in the Traditional Market of Jambi City. The study used a UV-Vis spectrophotometer measured at wavelengths of 400-600 nm. Based on the results obtained from 25 samples of Salted Fish Head stone analyzed, taken from traditional markets namely market A, Market B, Market C, Market D and Market E, which obtained formalin levels in each market vary with the highest value in mama market, with a rate of 1.0327μg/mg. In the sample of Salted Fish Head Stone circulating in the traditional market of Jambi City, it protects formalin.

Abstract

There are many plants that have the potential to be developed into anti-diabetic herbal medicine. One of them is yellow root (Fibraurea tinctoria Lour.) that contains chemical compounds including alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, steroids/triterpenoids. Its known that the administration of ethanolic extract of yellow root at doses of 50, 100 and 200 mg/kg BW can reduce blood glucose levels of rats with induced with alloxan. To increase the use of yellow root in food medicine, preparations were developed by formulating the extract in tablet dosage form. In this study, tablets were made with three formulas with different fillers, namely Avicel PH 101 and pregelatinized starch. The research was conducted experimentally using three formulas with varying concentrations of fillers with a ratio between Avicel PH 101 and and pregelatinized starch, namely formula I (1:0), formula II (0.5:0,5) and formula III (0:1). Furthermore, evaluation of granules which includes evaluation of flow time, angle of repose, compressibility, mass density and moisture content. The granules were compressed and evaluated for tablets including evaluation of weight uniformity, hardness, friability and tablet disintegration time. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the variation of the filler did not affect the physical properties of the yellow root extract granules, but did affect the physical properties of the tablets. The results showed that the tablet that met all the requirements for the physical properties of the yellow root extract tablet was formula II with a combination of Avicel PH 101 and Pregelatinized Starch as fillers.

Abstract

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a kidney disorder that continues to increase the globally and its also irreversible. Hemodialysis (HD) performed by CKD patients with severe conditions. Quality of life is one indicator of the success therapy patients CKD with HD. In addition to clinical conditions, the characteristics of patients can be affected to the quality of life. The aims of this study is to see the effect of the characteristics of CKD with HD of the Score Index utility. Its were measured using the EuroQuality of 5-dimensional 5 levels (EQ-5D-5L). The study was performed with the observational conversion using a cross sectional design in the CKD population in Pekanbaru hospital. The EQ-5D-5L questionnaire is given to 122 patients to measure the score utility. Different index score utility based on the characteristics of the tested patients using Mann Whitney and Kruskal Wallis. Based on the study, the average value of Pasa Pasa patients with HD patients was 0.24 ± 0.27. Dimensions of anxiety / depression and pain / discomfort of 6.56% with very severe problems and 2.46% could not move. Based on the anysis results, there are differences in utility values based on age characteristics, education levels, and commorbids (p <0.05).

Abstract

Dislipidemia suatu kondisi yang ditandai dengan peningkatan kadar kolesterol total, LDL, trigliserida dan atau penurunan kadar HDL. Ekstrak pegagan (Centella asiatica L.) dan kunyit (Curcuma longa L.) telah dimanfaatkan untuk mnegatasi berbagai penyakit termasuk dislipidemia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efek protektif kombinasi daun pegagan dan rimpang kunyit dalam sediaan jus sebagai antidislipidemia pada tikus Wistar jantan. Sejumlah 30 ekor tikus dikelompokkan secara acak terdiri dari kelompok normal (menerima pembawa obat), kelompok kontrol positif (menerima pembawa obat), kelompok pembanding (menerima gemfibrozil 125 mg/kg), kelompok yang menerima jus dosis 1 dan dosis 2. Semua kelompok kecuali kelompok normal menerima induksi pakan tinggi lemak 40% dan fruktosa 25% dalam air minum selama 21 hari bersamaan dengan obat uji. Pada hari ke 21 dilakukan pengukuran meliputi kadar kolesterol total, LDL, HDL, dan trigliserida, indeks aterogenik, indeks organ hati, denyut jantung, serta persentase inhibisi peroksidasi lipid. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya perbaikan profil lipid. Penurunan trigliserida sejalan dengan penurunan denyut jantung. Hasil analisis selanjutnya terdapat penurunan indeks aterogenik, indeks organ hati, serta inhibisi peroksidasi lipid pada kelompok yang menerima sediaan jus dosis 1 dan 2 yang berbeda bermakna dengan kelompok kontrol positif (p<0,05). Kesimpulan: pemberian daun pegagan dan rimpang kunyit dalam sediaan jus memberikan efek atheroprotektif pada keadaan hiperlipidemia.
