Abstract

This research is motivated by the problem, the low level of self-esteem of students. The purpose of this study was to determine the increase in self-esteem of students with realistic mathematics education in mathematics learning, and to determine student responses to mathematics learning with realistic mathematics learning. This type of research is descriptive research through questionnaire analysis. The instrument used is a self-esteem questionnaire to see self-esteem abilities that have been tested and a questionnaire to see student responses. In this study, data were obtained to see the increase in self-esteem of students with realistic mathematics education in learning mathematics and to see student responses to learning mathematics using mathematics education which were analyzed using a Likert attitude scale. The scale in this self-esteem contains four components, namely: students' assessments of (1) their ability (capability) in mathematics, (2) their success (successfulness) in mathematics, (3) their significance in mathematics, and (4) goodness (worthiness) himself in mathematics The conclusion obtained in this study related to self-esteem in mathematics is that it can be seen as a whole using a realistic mathematical education. Abstract

The importance of mathematics communication as one skill in the mathematics learning process standard doesn't necessarily make learning oriented towards achieving this skill. This study aims to develop a problem-based e-worksheet and determine its validity, practicality, and effectiveness in enhancing the mathematics communication skill in the cartesian coordinate topics. This study is a Research and development using the ADDIE model containing stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The results showed that the e-worksheet was declared feasible. The validity of the e-worksheet is indicated by the average score of the material and media validators which is a very good criterion. The response questionnaire average value also shows the practicality of this e-worksheet. While the effectiveness is shown by increasing students' mathematics communication skills after being given an e-worksheet. Abstract

Students’ interest in mathematics is very influential to the achievement of learning outcomes, so the teacher is recommended to utilize the precise approach to enhance students’ mathematics interest. This study aims to analyze the achievement of mathematics students’ interest using the Concrete-Representation-Abstract (CRA) approach refers to primer mathematical skills. The study uses a quasi-experimental and a post-test design. The students in grade VII are the population in this study and use two groups were purposely selected, an experimental group that receives CRA and a control group that gets common learning (CL). The result shows that the mathematics interest’ of students who received the CRA approach is higher than students who only received CL. Refers to the indicator of students’ mathematics interest, the interaction with a teacher or friend to discuss the material scale gets the high score, and the lower score at the indicator diligently solving the assignment.Keywords: The Concrete-Representation-Abstract approach, mathematics interest.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v23i3.pp894-903

Abstract

Collaboration is a core competency to promote effective teamwork and prepare students for success in both academic and professional environments. Permaculture gamification learning has the potential to enhance students' collaboration competency. Permaculture is an artificial ecosystem that encourages sustainable agricultural practices. There is a noticeable gap in the literature on integrating gamification into permaculture learning to improve students' collaboration skills. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the students’ collaboration competency improvement through the application of permaculture gamification as a learning strategy on ecosystem topics. This study used a quantitative research method with nonequivalent (pretest and posttest) control-group design. There are experimental group and control group, both groups take a pretest and posttest but only experimental group receives the treatment. The sample in this study consisted of 50 students from one high school in the city of Bandung. The students in the control group followed the regular learning process in the classroom. Meanwhile, the students in the experimental group followed the permaculture gamification learning. The instruments used in this study were collaboration assessment tools, including self-assessment, peer assessment, and observation rubric. Statistical t-test applied to analyze di difference on students collaboration competency outcomes after treatment. The N-Gain value was calculated to evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment to improve students’ collaboration competency. The t-test results showed that there is a significant difference in students’ collaboration competency between the two groups (p = 0.04). Permaculture gamification learning significantly improved students’s collaboration competency (p < 0.05). Based on the N-Gain value, permaculture gamification learning has a higher impact on students’ collaboration competency (N-Gain = 0.56) compared to the regular learning strategy (N-Gain = 0.40). It can be concluded that permaculture gamification learning can effectively improve students’ collaboration competency.      Keywords: permaculture gamification, collaboration competency, ecosystem.

Abstract

Laboratory activities are very important in the process of teaching and learning physics in schools. Limited laboratory facilities in schools are enough to hinder direct laboratory activities. The combination of predict-observe-explain (POE) learning with virtual laboratory activities can be an alternative to developing a more active, interesting, and meaningful physics learning process and overcome the limitations of equipment in the laboratory. This study aims to describe virtual lab activities with POE learning on student cognitive learning outcomes in direct current circuit topics. Participants were taken from senior high school students in the 12th grade in Palangka Raya, Indonesia. It includes 30 students who have not yet studied direct current circuits. A pre-experimental research method with a one-group pre and post-test design was used. The finding indicates that students cognitive learning outcomes were increased with a medium category (N-Gain score 0.69). Specifically, the increase was found in the subtopics electric current and potential difference (N-Gain score 0.66), simple direct current circuits (N-Gain score 0.68), electrical circuits series and parallel (N-Gain score 0.73), and Ohm's Law (N-Gain score 0.70). Based on this research, virtual-lab activity with POE learning could be considered an alternative to conducting a meaningful learning activity, especially in physics learning.Keywords: crocodile physics, direct current, physics, POE learning model, virtual lab.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v24i1.pp309-320

Abstract

This study aims to determine the application of student worksheets based discovery learning to increase concept mastery student in the experimental class 1 and class 2 experiments. The method used is pre experimental design with one group pretest-posttest design to look at the increase in the value pretest and posttest in each class experiment. Abstract

The tendency to develop critical thinking skills has been carried out for a long time starting from the definition, indicators of mathematical critical thinking, and the practice of developing critical thinking. Critical thinking can be developed both individually and classically through learning. The purpose of this study was to analyze qualitatively the mathematical critical thinking process of SD Muhammadiyah Manyar students in terms of cognitive style. The research method is descriptive qualitative. The results of the analysis obtained students with FD cognitive style more than students with FI cognitive style. From the difference in numbers, it is in line with the analysis of the learning process where students need more teacher instruction in completing assignments. Abstract

This study aims to develop a project-based pretest-posttest assessment of the use of coffee husks. This study used the research and development method of the ADDIE model until the development stage. At the analysis stage, a literature study and a preliminary study were conducted. At the design stage, planning and preparation of an initial draft in the form of a pretest-posttest assessment were carried out. In the development stage, two science education experts validated the suitability of the content and construction of the pretest-posttest assessment with Torrance's creative thinking skills indicator framework. The product of the validation results was then responded to the suitability of the content and construction aspects of creative thinking skills indicators by the three science teachers. Abstract

The Ministry of Education and Culture found that the Covid-19 pandemic had caused a significant literacy and numeracy learning loss. The comprehensive mathematics instruction (CMI) model has a pedagogical prescription that is proven to be effective in improving students' mathematical thinking skills. This model can be developed into a digital teaching material that can support interactive learning. This study aims to build digital teaching materials using the CMI model that can support interactive mathematics learning. The research method used is research and development (R & D). The results of this study are in the form of a product named CMI Agent which is the result of the transformation of the CMI model teaching materials into LMS-based digital technology with interactive designs. Abstract

Mathematical communication ability have an important role for students in knowing their abilities when communicating their understanding. The purpose of this study is to analyse students’ mathematical communication ability in solving trigonometry problems in terms of interest in learning. This research uses qualitative descriptive research. The instrument used in this study were the questionnaire interest in learning, the mathematical ability test, and interview. The results of this study is mathematical communication ability is different for every subject both orally or writing related with interest in learning. And the conclusion of the study is mathematical communication ability in writing, subject with high interest learning still better than the subject interested in learning is medium and the interest in learning is low.
