Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the scientific attitude of prospective science teacher students as well as to validate the scientific attitude assessment instrument that had been developed (Moore & Foy, 1997). This research procedure includes adapting the instrument, analyzing the content validity, delivering the instrument to sample and evaluating the research data. The data obtained were analyzed statistically using factor analysis techniques to determine the contribution of each item, analysis the reliablity and Pearson product moment correlation. The research sample was 525 prospective science teachers who were taken by using random technique at University of Lampung. The results showed that scientific attitude consisted of 4 main factors, namely science is about understanding, explaining, and aiming to help other people's lives better (factor 1), I want to become a scientist (factor 2), the task of a scientist (factor 3), and science is rigid (factor 4). Furthermore, factor 3 and factor 1 as the dominant scientific attitude possessed by students, followed by factor 2 and factor 4. The scientific attitude was dominated by the understanding that science is about understanding and explaining scientific facts and the obligations of a scientist. . But they themselves do not really want to be a scientist. The structural model was declared valid, and according to the model fit index criteria, χ2 / df, GFI, AGFI, RMR, RMSEA, CFI, NFI, dan IFI with successive values of 1.331/(p < 0.05); 0.981; 0.968; 0.022; 0.025; 0.91, 0.988; 0.954; 0.937. Keywords: scientific attitude, academic achievement, factor analysis DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v23i2.pp419-427

Abstract

Intertextuality refers to the process of understanding a context by exploring and connecting relationships between different texts or representations. In chemistry education, intertextuality serves as a communication bridge that links the three levels of chemical representation: macroscopic, submicroscopic, and symbolic. This study aims to enhance students' understanding of Molecular Geometry Concepts through Intertextual-based Learning with 3D- visualization. The research employed a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest design. Participants were selected using purposive sampling from undergraduate chemistry education students. The study involved 26 first-year students majoring in chemistry education who were taking a general chemistry course. Data were collected using student worksheets and pretest-posttest assessments. The data analysis included t-paired test for parametric statistic and evaluating student responses related to learning outcomes. Analysis of the t-paired test results shows that there is a significant difference in the pretest and posttest scores with a significance value of (p> α0.05). Abstract

In majority, cultivation of oyster mushroom is carried out indoors, that the room was generally mentioned as mushroom cultivation house. One of physics concept that play a big role is evaporation. Evaporation itself known as a complex process that involves many physical quantities. It has been observed that in several schools in Jember, the explanations about evaporation, as one of discussion inside the unit of temperature and heat, were still non contextual and tended to be incomprehensible. This research aimed to describe the physics concept of evaporation that applied inside mushroom cultivation house, then design a supplementary e-module based the analysis as physics learning material. To measure the evaporation values that occur inside mushroom cultivation house, FAO-Penman Monteith evapotranspiration formula was chosen. For the supplementary e-module that has been designed, here is also validated by experts. Keywords: evaporation, mushroom cultivation house, oyster mushroom, and temperature and heat.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v23i4.pp1493-1503

Abstract

Computational Thinking (CT) skills are essential in mathematics education, particularly in data processing topics. This study aims to analyze the CT skills of 7th-grade junior high school students based on four main components: decomposing, abstraction, pattern recognition, and algorithmic thinking. A qualitative phenomenological approach was employed, involving 14 students selected purposively based on their diverse academic performance levels. Data was collected through classroom observation, CT skill tests focusing on data processing tasks, and in-depth semi-structured interviews to explore students’ problem-solving strategies and cognitive processes. The findings reveal varied CT competencies among students. For decomposing, 29% of students demonstrated high ability, effectively breaking down complex problems into manageable steps, while 36% exhibited moderate skills. In abstraction, the majority (57%) struggled to filter relevant data from irrelevant ones, highlighting this as a key area for improvement. Pattern recognition showed 36% of students in the high category, recognizing and logically explaining data trends, whereas 29% remained in the low category. Algorithmic thinking presented the strongest performance, with 43% of students categorized as high, showcasing structured and logical approaches to solving data-related problems. The study highlights the need for targeted interventions to strengthen abstraction and pattern recognition skills, crucial for comprehensive data analysis. By identifying strengths and weaknesses in CT skills, this research provides insights into designing more effective teaching strategies and developing CT-oriented curricula. The findings contribute to mathematics education by addressing 21st-century skills, equipping students with critical thinking and analytical capabilities needed in a data-driven world.         Keywords: computational thinking, mathematics, data processing, junior high school. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v25i4.pp1809-1823
