Abstract

Think Globally, Act Locally: The Contextualization of Gentle-Parenting through the Sundanese Values of Asih, Asah, and Asuh. Objective: In response to the global shift towards more empathetic parenting practices as a counter-narrative to traditional parenting, which often employs a directive approach, this study addresses the need for culturally relevant child-parenting models. It aims to explore the lived parenting experiences of contemporary Sundanese families and, subsequently, to identify how the local philosophical values of asih (nurturing affection), asah (honing potential), and asuh (protective guidance) serve as an indigenous framework to contextualize and reinterpret the principles of gentle-parenting in their daily lives. Methods: This study employed a qualitative, exploratory approach using a phenomenological method. The data were collected through in-depth, semi-structured interviews with a small, purposively selected sample of three Sundanese families who practice an emphatic parenting approach in the Greater Bandung area. Thematic analysis was used to identify patterns and convergences between lived experiences and theoretical concepts. Findings: The findings reveal a significant convergence between the two paradigms. The parenting practices of the participating families, although not explicitly labeled as such, inherently embody core principles of gentle parenting. The value of asih is manifested as the foundational practice of building secure emotional connections and validating children's feelings. The value of asah was realized through dialogical practices that stimulate a child's critical reasoning and skills. Finally, asuh was implemented as a framework of protective nurturing, characterized by consistent role-modeling and the setting of rational, rather than punitive, limits. Conclusion: The Sundanese local wisdom of asih, asah, and asuh is not merely compatible with gentle parenting but functions as a robust, pre-existing cultural framework to "ground" and legitimize its principles. This contextualization yields a hybrid parenting model that provides a culturally resonant alternative to overly permissive or traditionally directive styles, emphasizing relationships, mutual understanding, and profound respect for the child as a whole individual. Keywords: gentle-parenting, parenting, sundanese local wisdom, early childhood.

Abstract

Contextual Sociology Learning Design: Integration of Dick and Carey and Angkringan Pedagogy to Develop Sociological Imagination. Objective: This study develops a contextual sociology learning design by integrating the Dick and Carey instructional design model with the angkringan style pedagogy approach. Angkringan pedagogy represents an egalitarian educational framework, grounded in local wisdom, that promotes social reflection and active engagement in discussions surrounding diverse community issues. This method draws inspiration from the daily interactions of Indonesian individuals in angkringan, which serve as friendly and open gathering spaces. The objective is to encourage students' sociological imagination and create a participatory, meaningful, and culturally appropriate learning environment. Methods: The learning design was developed using the Design-Based Case Study (DbCS) technique, involving 82 students in several iterative cycles. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis, then analyzed qualitatively. Quantitative evaluation was conducted using a rubric to assess scientific articles written by students. The Dick and Carey learning model was modified by integrating elements of angkringan-style discussions, which emphasize equal conversation and social reflection. Findings: The results of the study show that the integration of this approach can increase students' active participation, critical thinking skills, and the ability to develop sociological imagination, especially in linking personal experiences to broader social dynamics. In addition, this design also strengthens equal pedagogical relationships and positively impacts the quality of scientific articles produced by students. Quantitatively, this design improved the average score of students’ scientific articles to 3.79 (categorized as very good) and resulted in the publication of seventeen articles in Sinta 5-indexed national journals and ten in Sinta 6-indexed national journals. Conclusion: Integrating systematic learning design with culturally contextual pedagogical approaches results in an innovative methodology in sociology education. This methodology contributes to forming a reflective academic identity, enhancing research capacity, and developing an inclusive and responsive learning environment to social diversity. This concept strengthens the practice of critical pedagogy in educational institutions and has cross-disciplinary and cross-cultural relevance. Keywords: instructional design, design-based research, dick and carey, angkringan pedagogy, sociological imagination.

Abstract

Transformation of Traditional Learning Models in Elementary Schools in Lampung Province: An Adaptation Approach. Objective: This study aims to explore the transformation of traditional learning models in elementary schools in Lampung Province in response to the emerging challenges and opportunities of the digital era. The main focus is to examine how the adaptation of instructional approaches, particularly in methods, media, and teacher roles, can improve the quality of basic education through the integration of information and communication technology (ICT). This transformation is viewed as essential in meeting the educational demands of the 21st century. Methods: This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, using data collection techniques such as observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The study participants include teachers, principals, and students from several elementary schools in Lampung Province that have initiated the implementation of digital learning models. Thematic analysis was employed to identify patterns of adaptation, challenges in implementation, and strategies developed to address these changes. Findings: The study reveals that learning transformation involves not only the use of technology but also significant shifts in the teacher's role as a facilitator, more participatory teaching strategies, and dynamic patterns of interaction. Key challenges include limited ICT infrastructure, human resource readiness, and resistance to school culture change. However, there are significant opportunities through teacher training, digital curriculum development, and supportive education policies. The two most important findings are: first, teachers successfully modified traditional teaching into project-based and collaborative learning supported by ICT; second, students showed increased engagement and learning motivation in interactive digital environments. Conclusion: The transformation of learning models in elementary schools is a complex process that requires fundamental changes in how knowledge is constructed, shared, and applied. Collaborative strategies among educational stakeholders, sufficient technological support, and capacity-building for teachers are essential to establishing an adaptive, inclusive, and sustainable learning ecosystem. This study makes a conceptual contribution by demonstrating that teacher agency in resource-constrained settings can bridge the gap between global constructivist pedagogical ideals and local sociocultural realities, resulting in a unique and contextually grounded hybrid learning model. Keywords: learning transformation, digital era, educational technology, education quality, teacher roles.
