Abstract

This paper explores the doctrine of salvation, or Soteriology, with a particular focus on the significance of God's grace in the redemptive work of Jesus Christ. The doctrine of salvation continues to generate considerable questions among congregations. Numerous complex questions arise concerning the means by which human beings are saved, leading to debates within religious communities. The aim of this research is to address these questions raised by congregations regarding the work of salvation, the grace bestowed upon humanity, and the meaning of Jesus' death on the cross. The researcher examines various theories within systematic theology, particularly Soteriology, as a framework for this study. A qualitative approach with a descriptive analysis method was employed, as this research seeks to uncover the diverse meanings and understandings held by congregants regarding the concept of grace in God's redemptive work. The findings reveal that: (1) the salvation experienced or obtained by human beings is an expression of God's love for humanity. (2) Congregants' understanding of Jesus' death is characterized by the manifestation of the fruits of the Spirit as guiding principles in their daily lives. The compassion shown by God attests to the inherent value of human life in God's sight.

Abstract

This paper attempts to describe the culture of the Treman community, specifically the rejection of disasters with the ritual of throwing away soe using a socio-theological perspective. This paper aims to describe the meaning of the Treman community who have embraced Christianity, in relation to the practice of the throwing away soe ritual. This paper uses a qualitative method with a case study design. Interviews are a data collection technique to deeply observe the community's understanding in implementing the throwing away soe ritual. The results obtained in this study are that the ritual is indeed carried out by the community when avoiding various accidents and disasters. It is done by worshiping their god. The interesting thing about the implementation of this ritual lies in the community who already believe in Christ, namely Christianity. Such is the social reality that occurs in the village of Treman so that social and theological analysis can be something new to explore the throwing away soe ritual as a cultural practice of the community. Through deep meaning to this ritual, the Treman community not only maintains tradition, but also opens itself to various other spiritual perspectives

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This article delves into the profound significance of the Jesus Prayer, as presented by Kallistos Ware, and its role in nurturing spiritual growth and leading believers toward a deeper union with God. By employing a qualitative literature review, this study engages with Ware’s theological perspectives and other relevant insights. The findings highlight how this simple yet powerful prayer—“Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner”—serves as a tool for believers to transcend distractions, cultivate inner peace, and center their hearts on Christ. The research affirms that the Jesus Prayer is not just a repetitive phrase but a pathway to transformation, offering believers a way to experience God’s grace in their everyday lives.

Abstract

This study provides a critical examination of the dilemmas encountered by churches in their efforts to empower the economic well-being of their congregants as part of a broader social transformation. Traditionally, churches have tended to distance themselves from business engagements, confronting substantial challenges when their members seek tangible economic support. This research employs the framework of entrepreneurial theology to explore the complexities of social transformation within the practical implementation of church missions. A qualitative approach is utilized, with a comprehensive literature review of pertinent texts to investigate this phenomenon. The findings reveal that churches can play an active role as facilitators in economic empowerment while maintaining a principled distance from business activities that might jeopardize their spiritual integrity. Through a nuanced understanding of entrepreneurial theology, churches are positioned to develop innovative programs that foster economic self-reliance among congregants, while concurrently reinforcing spiritual and social bonds within the community. These insights offer a novel perspective for churches aiming to effectively address the economic needs of their members without compromising their core mission of witness.

Abstract

This study examines the phenomenon of religious-based violence in radicalism content on social media, especially the YouTube platform throughout 2023-2024. This article uses qualitative research with a library approach as a data collection technique that will analyze YouTube content related to religious violence in radicalism content and is supported by reference sources, namely journals, books, Google Scholar, and Semantic Scholar. The rise of content with extreme religious narratives raises concerns about the potential for conflict and social polarization. Through in-depth analysis, this study found that religion should be understood as a social system that contains collective values, where the concept of the Kingdom of God is the basis that emphasizes love and peace. This serves to distinguish between true religious teachings and deviant interpretations that can be used to justify violence. This finding also underlines the importance of viewing religion as a tool for peace that can encourage dialogue and mutual understanding between religious communities, not as a source of violence or conflict. This study emphasizes that implementing a comprehensive understanding of religion in modern public spaces, such as social media, is an important step to reduce the spread of radicalism. It is hoped that this effort can build collective awareness of the importance of prioritizing universal and peaceful religious values, so that society can work together to create a public space that is safe, harmonious, and free from the threat of religious-based violence.

Abstract

Christians or churches generally believe and acknowledge that the Holy Spirit is one of the persons of the single Triune God, but in congregational life, the Holy Spirit is misunderstood and often there are various views about the  Holy Spirit personhood and how the Holy Spirit works in the lives of believers. . In fact, if we return to the church's confession which is formulated based on the scriptures, it is clearly stated that the Holy Spirit is a person. In the Toraja Church's confession, the Holy Spirit is specifically recognized as a Person, however in this confession the author observes that further emphasis or explanation of the Person of the Holy Spirit is still inadequate. So it is not surprising that there are still many members of the Toraja Church who do not understand or even misunderstand the Holy Spirit and the work of the Holy Spirit in everyday life, as in the case of one member of the Toraja Church, the Leppan Congregation, who claimed that he had encountered the Holy Spirit. Through a spiritual experience that he dared to claim to be a prophet and even dared to judge several members of the other congregation that they were unrighteous and controlled by Satan.  Therefore, in the author's opinion, the doctrine of the Holy Spirit still needs to be given further explanation and is very important to be emphasized in the lives of church members. This is important so that church members gain a correct understanding of the Holy Spirit as stated in the holy scriptures
