Abstract

This research is aiming to examine the process of Islam's adaptation to local culture in Indonesia, which is creating a distinct and unique Islamic identity. Islam, which is arriving in Indonesia as a global religion, is experiencing dynamic interaction with local traditions and cultures, resulting in syncretism in various aspects of society. Through a qualitative approach using literature study method, this research is finding that Islam in Indonesia is not only being passively accepted, but is undergoing deep negotiation and transformation, both in religious practices, social structures, arts, and law. One of the main findings is the integration between Islamic teachings and local cultural practices, such as in religious rituals, performing arts, and architecture, which is showing a strong influence of local culture on the form of Islam developing in Indonesia. However, this research is also revealing the tensions between more universal Islamic teachings and the more particular local cultural values, which are sometimes creating challenges in maintaining harmony between the two. This research is concluding that Islam in Indonesia is the result of a complex adaptation process, involving cultural syncretism that is not only creating harmony but also sometimes generating tensions. For further research, it is being suggested to explore more the regional differences in the acceptance of Islam and how this adaptation process is unfolding in different areas of Indonesia. Keywords: Islam, local culture, adaptation, syncretism, Indonesia

Abstract

This study aims to examine the development of Islamic education in Indonesia during the Reform Era, including government policies, the transformation of pesantren and madrasah, and the challenges encountered. A descriptive-qualitative research approach with a literature review method was employed. Data were collected through an analysis of literature, including books, scholarly journals, and policy documents, and were analyzed historically and thematically to describe existing phenomena. The findings reveal that the Reform Era has provided significant opportunities for the development of Islamic education through decentralization and democratization policies. The transformation of pesantren and madrasah stands out as a major success, integrating religious curricula with general knowledge. However, challenges such as regional disparities in quality, issues of radicalism, and the demands of globalization remain obstacles to be addressed. The implications of this study highlight the importance of collaboration among the government, educational institutions, and society to create an inclusive, competitive Islamic education system rooted in the values of moderation.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out the best way to take character education, as well as the difficulties faced and the solutions used. The research was conducted at MA al Islamiyah Danawarih using qualitative methodologies and data collection techniques such as observation, interview, and documentation. As a result, character education values are implemented through conceptual knowledge, following rules, and modeling good behavior-all of which continue to support each stage of the character education process. This process still faces internal and external obstacles despite these efforts. Appropriate solutions are needed to overcome these challenges, such as reminding teachers and encouraging continuous introspection from both students and teachers engaged in character education.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the learning strategies used by instructors of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) in SMPN 22 Batang Hari in order to increase student engagement. It also aims to pinpoint the challenges educators face when encouraging engaged student engagement in the classroom. In this study, descriptive qualitative methodology was used, and information was collected through documentation, interviews, and observations. PAI students, educators, principals, and teachers participated in the study. Data collection, reduction, presentation, and conclusion or verification are steps in the data analysis process. The findings show that although teachers have used pedagogical competence to encourage students ' learning activities, they have not yet reached their full potential. Lesson planning, subject mastery, and understanding of student characteristics all show evidence of an effective approach. However, as traditional teaching methods continue to be the primary means used to deliver lessons, there is still room for development in the integration of Learning media.

Abstract

This study discusses the implementation of teacher competencies in the professional teacher certification program, which aims to improve the quality of education in Indonesia. The primary focus of this research is the application of the four main teacher competencies—pedagogical, personal, social, and professional—in the certification process, with particular attention to Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method with a library research approach, where data is collected through a literature review of books, academic journals, and other relevant sources. Data analysis is conducted by examining, comparing, and interpreting various theories and previous research findings to gain a comprehensive understanding of the effectiveness of teacher certification. The findings indicate that certification not only enhances the quality of learning but also motivates teachers to continue their professional development through training, seminars, and further education. Certification also contributes to creating a more interactive, relevant, and conducive learning environment, thereby meeting the needs of students in the modern era. However, several challenges remain, including limited practice-based training, high administrative burdens, and restricted access to educational resources and learning technologies. Therefore, a comprehensive strategy is required, including continuous training, improved educational facilities, and periodic program evaluations to ensure that certification has a sustainable positive impact on enhancing teacher competencies and the overall quality of education at the national level.
