Focus and Scope Focus Room of Civil Society Development (RCSD) is a community service-oriented journal that focuses on advancing theories, research, and practices in community participation and empowerment. The journal explores innovative approaches to fostering active participation of communities in development initiatives, integrating science and technology to create sustainable and resilient societies. RCSD encourages submissions that bridge the gap between theory and practice, emphasizing collaborative efforts across various fields to enhance community participation and empowerment. Scope The term "community participation" in RCSD refers to activities that involve community involvement in decision-making, capacity building, and empowerment to address societal challenges. The journal welcomes studies and innovations from various fields, including but not limited to Economy, Education, Health, Environment and Engineering. Economy This scope includes research and initiatives that promote economic development and empower communities to actively participate in strengthening their economic resilience. Topics may include: Community-led development of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs); Participatory economic innovation for local empowerment; Capacity-building programs for economic resilience; Community-driven creative and sustainable product development. Education This scope covers studies and programs that enhance educational theories, models, and practices to foster active community participation in knowledge and skill development. It includes formal, informal, and community-based educational approaches. Topics may include: Participatory frameworks and models for community education; Innovations in informal and non-formal education for communities; Literacy programs promoting active community involvement; Education for sustainable development with community engagement. Health This scope emphasizes research and initiatives aimed at promoting community participation in improving health and well-being. Topics may include: Community-driven health awareness and service programs; Models for participatory public health interventions; Rehabilitation and recovery programs involving community support; Health literacy initiatives empowering community decision-making. Environment This scope highlights community participation in addressing environmental challenges and fostering sustainable practices. Topics may include: Participatory natural resource management; Adoption of community-led green technologies for sustainability; Climate change adaptation initiatives involving local communities; Waste management programs driven by community collaboration. Engineering This scope includes engineering research and projects that actively involve communities in the design, implementation, and evaluation of technological solutions to address societal challenges. Abstract

Plastic waste is one of the wastes generated from human activities and is classified as inorganic waste. Inorganic waste is difficult or cannot be decomposed, especially if the plastic is made of non-biodegradable materials. The increase in plastic waste is one of the problems faced by all parties and can threaten environmental sustainability. Efforts that can be made to minimize plastic waste are to recycle plastic waste into valuable products, such as planting media. The purpose of this community service activity is to manage plastic waste into planting media. This aims to minimize environmental pollution due to plastic waste, especially plastics that are classified as non-biodegradable. The methods used in this activity are lectures and demonstrations. The activity was attended by 37 people consisting of village officials, PKK mothers, and Karang Taurna of Blimbing Village, Kediri Regency. In this PKM activity, the participants seemed enthusiastic about participating in a series of activities from waste management education and also demonstrations in making planting media. In this activity, it is known that there is an increase in participants' knowledge about good waste management. As a follow-up effort, similar and relevant activities are needed so that public knowledge and awareness of the importance of good and correct waste management will increase, so as to create a healthy and sustainable environment.

Abstract

Aktivitas remaja dalam memanfaatkan teknologi digital sudah menjadi bagian dari aktivitas mereka sehari-hari. Penggunaan media menumbuhkan keterlibatan seseorang dalam memberikan tulisan pendek melalui komentar, percakapan, atau diskusi. Menulis di blog merupakan kegiatan menulis yang memanfaatkan media digital (internet). Kegiatan pendampingan menulis di blog bertujuan untuk meningkatkan budaya menulis di kalangan pelajar remaja. Kegiatan menulis memberi banyak manfaat lainnya, seperti mengungkapkan ide, menumbuhkan rasa percaya diri, dan meningkatkan motivasi membaca. Kegiatan dilakukan dengan penyampaian materi tentang menghasilkan ide, pengetahuan tentang tahapan membuat blog, dan praktik membuat blog. Pesertanya adalah siswa SMP Bina Mulia, Sawangan, Depok. Target kegiatan telah tercapai: setiap peserta mahasiswa mempunyai blog; ada yang sudah berhasil memposting tulisannya, dan ada pula yang masih dalam bentuk draft di blog. Menulis di blog merupakan kegiatan positif yang perlu dikembangkan oleh siswa. Sekolah hendaknya mengembangkan budaya menulis di kalangan siswanya, baik yang diintegrasikan dalam pembelajaran maupun kegiatan ekstrakurikuler. Manfaat lain yang dapat diperoleh dari budaya menulis adalah pengelolaan emosi dan meningkatkan rasa percaya diri dalam berbicara di depan publik.

Abstract

This research undertakes a comprehensive exploration of the intersection between women's empowerment and E-commerce, with a specific focus on the unique challenges and opportunities presented in Afghanistan's post-conflict landscape. Globally, E-commerce has emerged as a transformative force, breaking down traditional barriers and providing avenues for women's active participation in economic activities. However, Afghanistan's socio-cultural context introduces nuanced challenges, including cultural norms, societal expectations, and limited access to technology. Employing a mixed-methods research design, this study gathers insights from 100 Afghan women engaged in E-commerce activities. The findings reveal multifaceted challenges, emphasizing the need for targeted interventions to bridge the digital divide and address cultural barriers. Despite obstacles, the study underscores the resilience of women entrepreneurs in navigating the digital landscape. Education and digital literacy emerge as pivotal factors shaping women's participation, highlighting the necessity for tailored initiatives. The research culminates in key recommendations, advocating for clear national policies, enhanced cybersecurity measures, and digital literacy programs. Support for women entrepreneurship and collaboration with international partners are emphasized to create an inclusive and supportive environment for women in the digital economy. This research serves as a foundational resource for policymakers, researchers, and practitioners, offering actionable insights to empower Afghan women in E-commerce. By implementing the recommended strategies, Afghanistan can pave the way for sustainable development, economic growth, and the meaningful inclusion of women in the digital landscape.

Abstract

Artikel ini membahas kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat yang bertujuan untuk membangun kemandirian ekonomi perempuan Suku Laut di Pulau Lipan, Kabupaten Lingga. Kegiatan ini memanfaatkan industri rumahan berbasis sumber daya dan potensi lokal. Suku Laut, sebagai masyarakat pesisir yang rentan secara ekonomi, menghadapi tantangan dalam memenuhi kebutuhan sehari-hari. Dengan memanfaatkan sumber daya alam dan keterampilan lokal, perempuan Suku Laut diharapkan dapat mengembangkan industri rumahan sebagai sarana untuk meningkatkan status ekonomi dan kemandirian mereka. Pelaksanaan kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini bertempat di Pulau Lipan, Kabupaten Lingga, Kepulauan Riau. Metode yang digunakan meliputi sosialisasi dan demo masak. Sosialisasi berfokus pada pemanfaatan sumber daya lokal, sedangkan demonstrasi memasak melibatkan pembuatan empek-empek dari udang dan ikan. Hasil dari kegiatan ini menunjukkan bahwa membangun kemandirian ekonomi perempuan Suku Laut melalui industri rumah tangga berbasis sumber daya lokal merupakan langkah positif dalam meningkatkan kesejahteraan dan melestarikan warisan budaya mereka. Peningkatan ini memberikan harapan baru bagi perempuan Suku Laut di Pulau Lipan untuk mengatasi tantangan ekonomi mereka melalui pengembangan potensi lokal.

Abstract

Kuliah Kerja Amalia (KKA) adalah program implementasi Catur Dharma Perguruan Tinggi khususnya di lingkungan Perguruan Tinggi Muhammadiyah yang memberikan pengalaman belajar dan bekal bekerja bagi mahasiswa dalam kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat di Desa Winning Kecamatan Pasarwajo Kabupaten Buton. Kegiatan KKA UM-Buton ini bertujuan a) melatih kemampuan mahasiswa dalam berpikir, bekerja lintas bidang ilmu dan bermitra dalam pemecahan masalah di masyarakat; b) sebagai wadah edukasi dalam mengembangkan potensi desa, SDM dan memperkuat nilai-nilai kearifan lokal; c) sebagai wujud pelaksanaan catur dharma perguruan tinggi. Metode yang digunakan dalam KKA UM-Buton ini berupa metode pelatihan, edukasi dan pendampingan. Hasil kegiatan pengabdian ini berupa terselengaranya kegiatan Weekend Clean-up Day (WCD), senam sehat, PHBS, pembuatan handsanitizer, pembuatan POC dan Pembuatan pot dari karpet/handuk/kain bekas; Penguatan literasi (kelas mewarnai, kelas CALISTUNG dan TPA; dan Pembuatan & pemasangan visi misi desa, plang nama jalan & plang nama perangkat desa. Program KKA UM-Buton ini tergolong berhasil karena mendapat dukungan dan apresiasi dari masyarakat Desa baik dari pemerintah desa, tokoh masyarakat, karang taruna maupun dari anak-anak sekolah dasar di Desa Winning Kec. Pasarwajo Kabupaten Buton.

Abstract

Empowering women through contraceptive education is an effort to provide knowledge, skills and access to various contraceptive methods to women to provide control to women regarding decisions regarding their reproductive health. The aim of community service is to increase the knowledge of women of childbearing age regarding appropriate contraceptive knowledge. with health conditions in Taraweang village in the form of counseling by providing material about types of contraceptives, disadvantages and advantages and side effects, the activity method is by distributing leaflets to participants then conducting counseling and evaluating using a pre-post test questionnaire. The results of activities regarding contraception were an increase in the knowledge of women of childbearing age. Where the knowledge of women of childbearing age before good knowledge education was 22%, and after good knowledge counseling it was 81%. Providing contraceptive knowledge to women of childbearing age has a positive social and health impact, giving them greater control over their bodies and reproductive lives.

Abstract

This study investigates the intersection of online education platforms and women's empowerment through a mixed-methods approach. The research addresses the problem of gender disparities in education by examining the role of digital technologies in promoting women's empowerment. The purpose of the study is to comprehensively explore various aspects of online education platforms and their impact on women's empowerment, focusing on factors examined, primary study focuses, aspects of women's empowerment, policy objectives, institutional support, and challenges in gender equality policies implementation. The research methodology involves a population consisting of students, educators, policymakers, and stakeholders in online education, with a targeted sample size of 160 participants. A structured survey questionnaire is utilized for data collection, employing both quantitative and qualitative analysis techniques. Quantitative data analysis includes descriptive statistics to summarize survey responses, while qualitative data interpretation involves thematic analysis of open-ended responses and interviews. The findings provide insights into the effectiveness of digital literacy programs, challenges faced, and the impact of policy interventions on women's empowerment. The study contributes to the existing literature by offering a comprehensive understanding of the multifaceted dynamics between online education platforms and women's empowerment, with implications for policy, practice, and future research directions.

Abstract

Kegiatan mahasiswa dalam program Asistensi Mengajar Mandiri (AjarMI) merupakan salah satu bentuk pelaksanaan BKP Merdeka Belajar-Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) mandiri yang ditawarkan oleh Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Universitas Negeri Makassar untuk mewadahi mahasiswa yang tidak lulus program Kampus Mengajar. Sama halnya dengan program Kampus Mengajar kegiatan AjarMI berisikan kegiatan asistensi mengajar bagi para pendidik di sekolah. Dalam hal ini kegiatan AjarMI dilakukan di SMP Negeri 5 Makassar, Sulawesi Selatan. Kegiatan ini memberikan tanggungjawab kepada mahasiswa untuk membantu pihak sekolah dalam hal meningkatkan kemampuan literasi dan numerasi peserta didik, membantu adaptasi teknologi, dan membantu administrasi sekolah. Hasil dari pendampingan kegiatan AjarMI ini, mahasiswa dapat melakukan 10 program kegiatan dengan baik dalam kurun waktu 4 bulan yang berlangsung pada bulan Februari sampai Mei 2023. Program kegiatan yang dilakukan mahasiswa antara lain: Asistensi guru dalam proses belajar mengajar; Pembiasaan 5S (Senyum, Salam, Sapa, Sopan dan Santun) dalam lingkungan sekolah; Pemeriksaan atribut pakaian sekolah; Jumat rohani dan BTQ (Baca Tulis Al-Qur’an); Pembuatan bimbingan belajar bahasa Inggris (English Club); Pendampingan IT untuk peserta didik; Pesantren kilat Ramadhan; Pembuatan majalah dinding; Pembuatan video kegiatan; dan Membantu administrasi sekolah.

Abstract

Pemberdayaan masyarakat pesisir melalui kuliah kerja amaliah (KKA) dimaksudkan untuk mengidentifikasi dan menangani permasalahan masyarakat pesisir Desa Sampubalo Kecamatan Siontapina Kabupaten Buton. Pemberdayaan ini bertujuan melatih kemampuan mahasiswa dalam berpikir, bekerja lintas bidang ilmu, dan berkolaborasi dalam pemecahan masalah di masyarakat, juga sebagai wadah edukasi dalam mengembangkan potensi desa, SDM dan memperkuat nilai-nilai kearifan lokal serta sebagai wujud pelaksanaan catur darma perguruan tinggi Muhammadiyah. Metode yang digunakan adalah pelatihan, pendampingan dan edukasi. Hasil kegiatan ini adalah program di bidang pendidikan meliputi kelas calistung & literasi alquran, program di bidang lingkungan meliputi pengadaan tempat sampah, WCD serta pemberian bibit sayur & polybag, program di bidang kesehatan meliputi PHBS dengan mencuci tangan dan sikat gigi serta program di bidang pemerintahan meliputi pemasangan batas-batas desa, pemasangan nama perangkat desa serta pembuatan video profil desa. Program KKA di Desa Sampubalo ini tergolong berhasil karena didukung oelh pemerintah desa dan segenap masyarakat Desa Sampubalo Kecamatan Siontapina Kabupaten Buton.

Abstract

Foodborne disease merupakan penyakit akibat makanan yang terpapar oleh bahaya kimia, fisik, maupun mikrobiologis pangan. Pada tahun 2010 diperkirakan terdapat lebih dari 500 juta pasien terkena foodborne disease dan menyebabkan kematian pada lebih dari 1 juta pasien di dunia, dan lebih dari 30% terjadi pada anak-anak. Risiko tinggi penularan foodborne disease pada anak-anak terutama terjadi di lingkungan tertutup seperti tempat penitipan anak dan sekolah. Gejala yang dialami anak-anak jika terkena foodborne disease berupa mual, muntah, demam, dan diare. Hal-hal tersebut akan mengganggu kegiatan belajar siswa di sekolah. Jika tidak ditindak lanjuti, foodborne disease bisa mengakibatkan gangguan pada organ dan juga metabolisme tubuh anak, bahkan bisa menyebabkan kematian. Diare di Kabupaten Magelang merupakan salah satu dari 10 kasus penyakit terbanyak di Kabupaten Magelang pada tahun 2019-2021 (BPS, 2021). Edukasi keamanan pangan ini diharapkan dapat meningkatkan pemahaman anak-anak dalam keamanan pangan, sehingga mampu memilih makanan yang higienis, sehingga tidak mengganggu kesehatan. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan di MI Maarif Gunungpring Muntilan, Kabupaten Magelang, dengan peserta sebanyak 479 siswa kelas 1 sampai dengan kelas 6. Pelaksanaan edukasi ini terbukti efektif dalam meningkatkan pemahaman siswa mengenai keamanan pangan, terlihat dari peningkatan nilai rata-rata pre-test dan post-test yang signifikan sebelum dan sesudah edukasi (Sig. 2 tailed = 0,000).
