Abstract

This study examines how space-related symbols and comparisons are used in a song “Supernova Love” by the K-pop group IVE, featuring EDM (Electronic Dance Music) maker David Guetta. Through a semiotic approach, it reflect on how heavenly phenomena are metaphorically used to interpret lovesickness and human emotions. Results of this research suggest that the supernova metaphor– representative of a star that explodes and emits bright light– serves as a metaphorical cornerstone in the depiction of the strength and transient quality of romantic relationships. The study also fuses the hybridization of K-pop with global electronic music styles, as well as the singing of harmonies in languages other than the primary one, using them as a stimulus for mass listening and producing listening data that seeks to justify the download of lyrics.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze how Emotions are displayed through language choices and speech styles in the Webtoon 'It's Mine'. As a visual narrative media that is widely favored by young people, 'It's Mine' features characters with complex psychological dynamics that are reflected not only in the illustrations, but also in the use of distinctive and expressive language. Using a critical discourse analysis approach as well as a basic psycholinguistic framework, this study will identify forms of language expression related to the characters' emotional states, such as sentence structure, diction, tone, and conversational context in dialog. The data is taken from a number of core episodes that feature conversations containing emotions that refer to mental character issues. The expected result is an understanding of the role of language as a medium for depicting psychological conditions in modern digital narratives, as well as how readers interpret characters' emotional communication indirectly through language choices. This research is expected to contribute to the study of language in popular media and the representation of character psychology through digital texts.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the transformation of indigenous peoples' governance in facing the Merauke Integrated Food and Energy Estate (MIFEE) and conservation policies, identify community resilience strategies as adaptations to these policies, and provide relevant policy recommendations for sustainable development based on local wisdom. A qualitative approach with a case study design was used to explore local dynamics in Jagebob District, Merauke Regency, South Papua. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with 18 key informants, participant observation, and document studies, then analyzed using thematic analysis techniques. The results showed that indigenous peoples experienced significant transformations in governance, characterized by strengthening customary institutions, revitalizing community deliberations, and integrating traditional values with modern governance practices. Community resilience strategies include livelihood diversification, policy advocacy, and strengthening cultural identity as a form of adaptation and non-violent resistance. Supporting factors include the role of customary leaders, the younger generation, NGOs, and technology; while obstacles include power imbalances, weak law enforcement, and community fragmentation. These findings underscore the urgency of more inclusive development and conservation policies, recognizing indigenous governance as an equal partner, and strengthening local institutional capacity to support sustainable development.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the sustainable border governance model by emphasizing cross-sector synergy, as well as identifying supporting factors, obstacles, and formulating recommendations for improving governance in the Merauke border area. Using a qualitative approach with a case study design, the study was conducted in Sota District, Merauke Regency, which is a national strategic area directly bordering Papua New Guinea. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), field observations, and document studies involving various stakeholders, such as central and regional governments, security forces, traditional leaders, business actors, and NGOs. The results of the study indicate that cross-sector synergy in border governance is still sectoral and has not been institutionalized systematically. The main obstacles include regulatory fragmentation, overlapping authority, and low local capacity. However, there is potential for synergy through collaborative practices involving indigenous peoples and formal institutions. This study recommends strengthening cross-sector coordination forums, policy harmonization, and developing a co-production-based governance model. These findings provide a conceptual contribution to the border governance literature and offer an operational model for the formulation of sustainable development policies in Indonesia's strategic border areas

Abstract

This research investigates the sociolinguistic roles of dialect and language variation in the Indonesian film Home Sweet Loan (2023), focusing on how informal expressions, regional dialects, and code-switching reveal characters' identities, emotions, and social positions. Using a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected through transcription and analysis of selected scenes featuring the main character, Kaluna. Findings indicate that linguistic choices—such as Jakarta slang, Javanese/Sundanese particles, sarcastic wordplay, and metaphor—are strategically used to portray economic struggle, gender roles, emotional fatigue, and generational pressure. The study concludes that dialects in Home Sweet Loan are more than just stylistic devices; they are critical tools for expressing urban identity, navigating socioeconomic realities, and challenging traditional norms through humor, irony, and resistance.

Abstract

This study examines the dynamics of collaboration between the government, private sector, and communities in improving the quality of basic services in Merauke Regency, an area with complex geographic and social challenges. Through a descriptive qualitative approach and data collection through in-depth interviews and participant observation, this study found that the collaboration model formed was hybrid, combining formal mechanisms with informal practices based on local values and customary authorities. The role of non-state actors proved significant in overcoming the limitations of bureaucratic capacity, especially in the education, clean water, and basic health service sectors. These findings emphasize the importance of collaborative governance that is contextual and sensitive to local social dynamics, and broadens the scope of collaborative governance theory by including cultural and relational dimensions. The global implications of this study suggest that a community-based collaboration model can be an effective alternative in providing basic services in disadvantaged and pluralistic areas

Abstract

Psychological thrillers as a genre have become a powerful vehicle for exploring the dynamics of power, trauma, and manipulation in human relationships. This article discusses psychological manipulation in the psychological thriller genre, focusing on Freida McFadden's novel The Housemaid. The main issue raised is how manipulation is constructed and displayed through the psychological behavior of the characters. The purpose of this study is to uncover the narrative techniques and psychological strategies used by the author in building tension and directing the reader's perception. This study uses a qualitative method with a psychological literary approach, analyzing the behavior of the main characters, namely Andrew Winchester, Millie, and Nina in their interactions to identify elements of manipulation. The results show that McFadden effectively uses unreliable narratives, character isolation, and changing power dynamics to enhance psychological tension. The conclusion shows that these elements work together to create an intense and disturbing reading experience, and reveal the important role of manipulation in the psychological thriller genre.
