Abstract

Background: According to the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2023, 37% of pregnant women aged 15–49 are affected by anemia. The incidence of anemia among pregnant women in Bengkulu Province remains notably high, with a total of 1,824 individuals affected. A key preventive measure against anemia in pregnant women is the consumption of iron tablets. Objective:. The objective of this study is to identify the factors influencing pregnant women's adherence to the consumption of iron tablets throughout their pregnancy Methods: This research employs a cross-sectional design, encompassing the entire population of pregnant women in their second and third trimesters within the jurisdiction of the Kuala Lempuing Health Center in Bengkulu City from January to May, involving 54 pregnant participants. Subjects were selected via total sampling, and data were collected using a questionnaire, followed by analyses conducted in univariate, bivariate (Chi-Square), and multivariate formats. Result:  The bivariate analysis revealed a p-value of less than 0.05 for all variables, indicating a significant relationship between ANC visits, support from healthcare providers, and spousal support in relation to pregnant women’s adherence to iron tablet consumption. Furthermore, the multivariate analysis identified ANC visits as the most dominant influencing factor, with an Exp(B) value of 10.522 Conclusion: The importance of effective counseling concerning the consumption of iron tablets is underscored, focusing on the optimal timing and method for intake, potential side effects, and enhancing the monitoring of iron tablet consumption adherence through the Blood Supplement Tablet (BST) control card for pregnant women documented in the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) book Keywords: Anemia, ANC, Iron Tablets, Healthcare Provider Support, Spousal Support, Adherence.

Abstract

Background: Early initiation of breastfeeding (EIBF) is the practice of providing breast milk within the first hour after birth. It is proven to reduce neonatal mortality and improve infant nutritional status. However, the implementation of EIBF has not been fully adopted by healthcare workers, including midwives. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between midwives’ level of knowledge and attitudes with the implementation of early initiation of breastfeeding at Prof. Dr. W. Z. Johannes General Hospital in Kupang. Methods: This was an analytical study with a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 21 midwives selected using total sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires to assess knowledge and attitudes, and observations using a checklist to evaluate EIBF implementation. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test with a significance level of p < 0.05. Results: Most midwives had good knowledge (90.5%) and positive attitudes (57%) regarding EIBF. However, only 33% of respondents implemented EIBF. The statistical test showed no significant relationship between knowledge (p = 0.533) or attitude (p = 0.642) and the implementation of EIBF. Conclusion: There is no significant relationship between midwives’ knowledge and attitudes and the implementation of early initiation of breastfeeding. Continuous training and capacity-building programs are recommended to support midwives in implementing EIBF according to established guidelines. Abstract

Background: The highest number of pneumonia cases in South Kalimantan was in Banjarmasin City, numbering 2,408 or 21% of the total cases spread across 13 districts/cities. Pneumonia can cause death in babies so a mother must have good knowledge of this, namely by providing PCV immunization as a precaution. Based on a preliminary study conducted by researchers in April 2024 at the Teluk Tiram Community Health Center, of 6 mothers with babies, only 2 people knew about the benefits and objectives of PCV immunization, while the other 4 people did not know about the benefits and objectives of PCV immunization. Objective: Identifying mothers' knowledge about PCV immunization at Teluk Tiram Community Health Center. Methods : This research uses a descriptive method. The sample in the study was 45 mothers who brought immunized babies to the Teluk Tiram Community Health Center, Banjarmasin. Data analysis using univariate analysis techniques, namely by calculating the frequency of each question item in the categories of age, education, occupation and mother's level of knowledge. Results: Based on data analysis, it was found that the mother's age characteristics had the highest results, namely 35 respondents (78%) in the productive category, the highest results were maternal education characteristics, namely 31 respondents in the secondary education category (68%), the mother's employment characteristics had the highest results, namely the respondents Housewives were 29 respondents (64%), and of the 45 respondents, mothers' knowledge about PCV immunization was 35 respondents (78%) with good knowledge. Conclusion:  78% of mothers had good knowledge of PCV immunization Keywords: Pneumonia Cases, Maternal Knowledge, PCV

Abstract

Background: Primary dysmenorrhea is a condition of menstrual pain without structural abnormalities that is experienced by some women. One of the influencing factors is stress. Final-year students are potentially at risk of experiencing stress due to academic burdens, such as thesis preparation, which can affect the menstrual cycle and worsen menstrual pain. Objective: This study aimed to determine the relationship between stress levels and primary dysmenorrhea among undergraduate Midwifery students at Sari Mulia University, Banjarmasin. Methods: This study employed a quantitative method with a descriptive correlational approach and a cross-sectional design. A total of 30 respondents were selected using purposive sampling. The respondents’ stress levels were measured using the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), and the degree of dysmenorrhea was assessed using the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS). The data were analyzed using the Spearman Rank correlation test. Results: This study found a significant correlation between stress levels and primary dysmenorrhea (p < 0.05). The Spearman Rank test indicated a significant positive relationship between stress levels and primary dysmenorrhea (r = 0.612; p = 0.001). Higher levels of experienced stress are associated with more severe dysmenorrhea pain. Conclusion: Stress management should be considered as one of the efforts to reduce primary dysmenorrhea. Abstract

Background: Iron deficiency anemia is still a major health problem in adolescent girls, especially those living in orphanages, due to inadequate nutritional intake, limited food variety, and increased iron requirements during growth and menstruation. One non-pharmacological effort that has the potential to increase hemoglobin levels is the administration of beet juice (Beta vulgaris), which is known to contain iron, folate, vitamin C, and antioxidants which play a role in the process of erythropoiesis and iron absorption. Objective: This study aims to determine the effect of giving beetroot juice on increasing hemoglobin levels in adolescent girls at Orphanage X Method: The research used a pre-experimental design with a one group pretest-posttest approach. The sample for this study was 16 teenage girls who had menstruated and had mild or moderate anemia. The intervention consisted of giving 250ml of beetroot juice once a day, for 15 days. Hemoglobin levels were measured before and after the intervention using a standard hemoglobin measuring device. Results: The results of the study showed that there was an increase in the average hemoglobin level in adolescent girls after being given beetroot juice compared to before the intervention, which means that there was an effect of giving beetroot juice on increasing hemoglobin levels in adolescent girls at Orphanage X. Abstract

Background: Pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period are physiological processes that can affect a woman’s psychological well-being. During the postpartum period, mothers are vulnerable to emotional disturbances such as postpartum blues—a temporary mood disorder caused by hormonal and psychological changes following childbirth. Risk factors contributing to postpartum blues include a mother’s lack of preparedness, limited knowledge, insufficient family support, and stress during pregnancy. If not properly managed, this condition can impact the mother’s mental health and her relationship with the baby. Therefore, early detection is necessary to identify the risk of postpartum blues, one of which is through a Naive Bayes algorithm approach based on data from postpartum mothers in the Banjarmasin region. Objective:.This study aims to analyze the factors contributing to postpartum depression in Banjarmasin City using the Naive Bayes algorithm. Methods: The research method used in this study on the detection of postpartum blues was the Adaboots algorithm with Naïve Bayes Result: This study was conducted from February to November 2024, encompassing the stages of proposal development, obtaining permits, conducting the research, and preparing the final report and results presentation. The process began with submitting a permit application through the LPPM to the Banjarmasin City Health Office, followed by contacting community health centers to obtain data on postpartum mothers. Data collection was conducted among 261 respondents using a questionnaire in both hardcopy and Google Form formats, distributed in person and via WhatsApp. The collected data was then processed, grouped by variables, and analyzed using the Naïve Bayes algorithm with AdaBoost optimization to predict postpartum depression. Conclusion: Most postpartum mothers experienced mild postpartum blues (170 out of 261 respondents), while 91 respondents experienced severe postpartum blues. The highest incidence was found among multiparous mothers. The most influential factors for severe postpartum blues include mothers who are not employed, marriage at ages 15–23, maternal age <20 years and >35 years, vaginal delivery, and educational levels of high school and college. Preventive measures can be taken by avoiding marriage and pregnancy at too young or too old an age, improving health knowledge, and providing optimal family support to postpartum mothers.
