English Education: English Journal for Teaching and Learning which is later called EEJ is a journal published by Tarbiyah and Teacher Training Faculty UIN Syekh Ali Hasan Ahmad Addary Padangsidimpuan every June and December. The journal is dedicated to original research on the teaching and learning of English as a foreign language. EEJ includes result of research (field and literature), conceptual ideas and studies, application theory, criticism in language and literature. This research investigated the teachers’ strategy in building students’ English learning motivation. This research used qualitative research in descriptive method. The data sources of thie research were the two English teachers of the XI grade students of SMA N 4 Padangsidimpuan. The data were collected through observation and interview. This research is analyzed by using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model of data including reducing the data, diaplaying the data, taking conclusion and verification. This research used method triangulation to check the data trustworthiness. Based on the result of the research, it can be concluded that the strategies used by the English teachers were categorized into four part including creating the basic motivational ondition, generating intial motivation, maintaining and protecting motivation, and encouraging positive self-evaluation.

This research focused on students’ writing descriptive text by using mind mapping strategy. The research was experimental research that uses one group pre-test and post-test design with 32 students in experimental and control class at Grade VIII Students of SMP N 6 Padangsidimpuan. The data were collected from students’ writing test that consists of 32 students for experimental class and 32 students also for control class. The result of the research have found from t-test, which is t-count higher than t-table 6.22 ˃ 1.66. It was concluded that mind mapping strategy has a significant effect on the writing descriptive text of students.

This research is discussing about the students’ reading comprehension of the second year MTs.Muhammadiyah 22 Padangsidimpuan. This research employed descriptive quantitative research. Based on the result of the research, researcher got the description of the data was found that mean score was 56.76. It means that the students’ reading comprehension of the second year MTs.Muhammadiyah 22 Padangsidimpuan was categorized into enough ability. Then, from the result of the hypothesis testing, the researcher found that Zcount =-3.57Ztable 0.3264. It means the hypothesis was rejected. Thus, the result of mean scores the students’ ability in enough ability and actually it should be accepted hypothesis, but based on the result of that score it is rejected. So, maybe there is a mistake in instrument or in calculation.

This study investigated the students’ vocabulary mastery by measuring students’ score result using mean score after getting data result test. The test was designed using multiple choice tests. The sample was room 2 students taken from 17 classes taking by random sampling way. They were 13 male and 13 female students. The results of study showed that the male students have the higher result score than the female students. It is evidenced by the data score was 81.53 76.53 or categorized in A B. This study recommends the educators, teachers or lecturers in order to enrich the students’ enthusiastic and interested in mastering vocabulary using many ways to teach them so that in the future the differences or the comparison of male and female students to master the vocabulary are fair. It means that both of male and female students do not have the differences in the result score.

This research is intended to investigate the correlation between students‟ habit of watching movie and their speaking mastery. This research used quantitative research with the correlational research type. The sample of this research was 33 students from the fifth semester of English department UIN Syekh Ali Hasan Ahmad Addary Padangsimpuan. The data was collected using questionnaire and test and analyzed by using product moment test. The finding of this research showed that there was a correlation between habit of watching movie and speaking in average category with the calculation rcount ˃ rtable (0.566 ˃ 0.339). Therefore the test of t-test showed that alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. It can be conclude that there was a significant correlation between habit of watching movie and speaking mastery at the fifth semester of English department UIN Syahada Padangsidimpuan

This article has purposes to determine types and variations of interaction patterns that the lecturers applied in teaching. It is also to describe advantages of the interactions in students’ learning process. A qualitative research was implemented where 10 lecturers who teach English at Language Development Center of IAIN Padangsidimpuan involved in the study. To collect the data, interview were given to lecturers and observation was done in ten classrooms. Then, descriptive data analysis was implemented in analyzing the data that were collected. The study revealed that all lecturers had tried hard to vary the interaction patterns in teaching. Several interaction patterns were seen dominantly used by lecturers, i.e. group work, full-class interaction, close and open-ended questioning, choral responses, and individual work. Moreover, there are some advantages that students can take from the variations of interaction patterns, namely; (1) students can share ideas with friends and lead them to be active, (2) students have lots of chances to practice English skills, (3) and interaction patterns makes the learning interesting and fun.

The present study examined the English literature students’ perception on the use of local sources, which were used as alternative reading sources. Despite being insufficient in terms of grammatical accuracy, naturalness of the text, and the poor layout, these local sources can also improve the students’ understanding toward the reading materials. Besides, the simplified vocabulary and grammar found in the text can also help the less able learners to understand the learning sources easier. The main advantages for the students identified in the study were actually the affordability and the accessibility of the learning materials. However, the students also suggest that these local sources should be continously improve so that these materials can be more interesting for the students to read. This study aimed to find out the effectiveness of Joox media in improving listening skill in eleventh grade at MAN 2 Jepara in academic year 2022/2023. This study was conducted at the eleventh grade students’ of MAN 2 Jepara which consist of 76 students. The method used in this study was true experimental research with pre-test post-test control group design. To collect the data, the researcher used pre-test and post-test in the form of missing word. Then, the students need to fill the missing word while listening to the song. The result showed that the mean score of students in experimental class was 82.77 while the mean score of students in control class was 77.08. The T-test analysis showed that t-test result was more than t-table (2.051 1.666) and the value of Levene’s test of equality variances was 0.04 which was less than 0.05. This result indicated that the use of Joox media was effective to improve students listening skill.

Peta konsep adalah suatu teknik pembelajaran yang banyak digunakan oleh para pendidik dalam meningkatkan proses dan hasil pembelajaran yang dilakukan di kelas, baik pada pembelajaran bahasa Inggris maupun untuk mengajar vocabulary, karena penguasaan vocabulary merupakan suatu hal yang harus bagi seorang peserta didik dan pemetaan konsep cukup mangkus untuk menyambut hal tersebut. Oleh karena itu, penggunaan peta konsep akan sangat baik untuk membantu pembelajaran vocabulary, dan sebaiknya pengajaran vocabulary tersebut akan baik apabila dilakukan dengan menggunakan mind mapping technique.

The article aims to identify the students’ difficulties in pronouncing fricative consonants and the factors that impede their pronouncing those consonants. A descriptive qualitative method was employed where 9 students at the fourth semester of TBI-2 in Tarbiyah and Teacher Training Faculty IAIN Padangsidimpuan involved in this study. The data present that the students’ difficulties in pronouncing English fricative consonant sounds are; the different elements between native language and the target language (/q/,/ð/,/ò/), the same phonetic feature in both language but differ in their distributions (/v/,/f/,/ჳ/,/z/,/s/and/h/). The study found that the dominant difficulty in producing English Fricative sounds are sound /ð/- voiced dental fricative in initial word position and /q/- voiceless dental fricative in initial word position. 9 out of 9 students mispronounce sound /ð/ and 9 out of 9 students mispronounce sound /q/. All of the students pronounce sound /ð/ and /q/ inappropriately. Whereas, the factor of its difficulties are the effect of mother tongue or first language, unsuccessful in using borrowed English words, lack of knowledge about English fricative sounds, prefers to speak Batakness rather than English and less of pronunciation practice.
