Abstract

The research discusses English Use in Al-Amien Islamic Boarding School Prenduan Sumenep Madura. The research says that the VI class students of Marhalah Aliyah TMI Putra Al-Amien Islamic Boarding School Prenduan Sumenep Madura do not pronounce the given aimed words in the sentence bases word stressed syllables of English. The research is designed as qualitative research with descriptive method. Within, the researcher takes observation, interview, and test for instrument of data collection. Here, the data is taken from Marhalah Aliyah TMI Putra Al-Amien Islamic Boarding School Prenduan Sumenep Madura students. There are 204 students from VI class: four classes for Dirasah Islamiyah Wal Arabiyah (DIA), one class for Matematika dan IPA (MIPA) and another one class for IPS dan Bahasa Inggris (IPSI). Five students are taken from each class as respondents through purposive sampling and another Six interviewees for primary data. In conclusion, the research says that the VI class students of Marhalah Aliyah TMI Putra Al-Amien Islamic Boarding School Prenduan Sumenep Madura do not pronounce the given aimed words in the sentence bases word stressed syllables of English.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of the video-making project assigned for pre-service teachers in English education department to enhance their competences of TPACK. Anchored in a qualitative approach, semi-structured interview with six student teachers in second semester was conducted to gain their voices on whether producing video as part of tasks in two English subjects facilitated them on learning new insight related to technology, pedagogy and content of some materials. Findings reveal video-making projects promoted self-eagerness to improve self-competence and collaboration with peers and lecturers. Consequently, making a video as tasks showed a potential for developing pre-service teachers’ TPACK. Participants’ voices indicated there were some challenges in video producing process. The study also suggests that there is ample room for improvement especially in preparing student teachers with prior knowledge of using technology.

Abstract

ABSTRAKSaat ini, bahasa Inggris bukan hanya sebagai sebuah bahasa yang harus diapplikasikan pada bidang tertentu, tetapi bahasa Inggris merupakan salah satu media untuk menyampaikan sesuatu baik secara lisan maupun secara tertulis. Dalam tulisan ini menjelaskan tentang Writing Narrative Text. Penjelasan dimulai dengan pengertian writing dan jenis-jenis text. Permasalahan yang akan diangkat pada tulisan ini adalah bagaimana menulis Narrative Text. Narrative Text adalah salah satu jenis text yang harus dipahami bagaimana penulisannya dan generic sturucture-nya, sehingga menjadi sebuah karya tulis yang baik dan benar.Kata Kunci : Writing dan narrative text

Abstract

The research investigated the use of teachers’ body languages in teaching English which focused on describing types of body language that teachers used and their significances in creating good classroom management. The kind of the research was descriptive qualitative in which the research used observation with note-taking and video-recording as data gathering techniques. Then, interview was also used to validate the data related to observation result. Then, an English teacher who teaches at SMP N 8 Padangsidimpuan was chosen as a research respondent. The steps of data analysis technique consisted of: (1) Reducing the data, (2) Presenting the data, and (3) Concluding the data. From the result of data analysis and discussion, there are five types of body language found in the research. They are facial expression, posture, gesture, touch, and eye contact. It was also found that body language must be used effectively and well to manage teacher’s teaching comfort and to monitor students’ learning activity like the use of postures and eye contact.

Abstract

Penelitian ini berjudul “Analysis of Sentence Elements by Using Tree Diagram of English Department IAIN Padangsidimpuan” bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah ditemukan unsur-unsur kalimat menggunakan tree diagram dan mencari tipe unsur-unsur kalimat yang paling sering digunakan dalam menggunakan tree diagram. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif-deskriptif, dengan informan penelitiannya adalah mahasiswa bahasa Inggris yang terdiri dari 22 orang. Adapun instrumen pengumpulan datanya adalah wawancara tidak terstruktur dan observasi. Peneliti menganalisis data dengan mengedit data, menggambarkan, dan membuat kesimpulan. Unsur-unsur kalimat yang dianalisis adalah subjek, kata kerja, objek, dan pelengkap. Setelah data diperoleh, dilakukan pengklasifikasian data berdasarkan unsur-unsur kalimat menggunakan tree diagram kemudian dianalisis dengan menggunakan rumus. Dari analisis tersebut dihasilkan bahwa dalam unsur-unsur kalimat yang ditemukan menggunakan tree diagram, unsur-unsur kalimat yang paling dominan digunakan adalah ’Verb’; dalam tipe kalimat sederhana.

Abstract

In recent years, there has been a rapid development in Artificial Intelligence (AI), including AI translators. AI translator tools are utilized in education, especially in language learning. The current study aims to investigate the utilization of AI translators to improve the quality of students' writing in an EFL classroom. This research is a quantitative study using a questionnaire to collect data from 40 EFL students in one of the state universities in Surabaya. The data obtained were analyzed using descriptive statistics and independent-samples t-test. The results show that most students perceive positive attitudes, such as that AI translators is easy to use, can improve their writing and translation quality, and many others. However, they agreed with the negative statements, such as that machine translation is considered cheating, the issue of dependence, etc. This study also revealed no significant differences in writing quality between the students who have positive and negative attitudes towards the utilization of AI translators.

Abstract

The aims of the research to describe about students’ ability, difficulties, and the efforts of a teacher in mastery reading of recount text. There were many problems in reading recount text such as the students lack of vocabulary, cannot understand the meaning of the text, lack of motivation, and less of facilities. The research was conducted by mixed research. The researcher used the test and interview to collect the data. After doing the research, it can be concluded that the ability of the grade VIII students of MTsN 3 Tapanuli Selatan in mastering reading recount text based on the test has done, was categorized into “very good” category. The mean score of good category was 85,33. After interviewing the students, the researcher concluded that the students’ problems in mastering reading recount text was in vocabulary mastery, low of understanding the grammar and the generic structure of recount text. While, the efforts have done by the English teacher was keep the students learn, review, and explain detailed about the difficulties that the students got.

Abstract

Abstract Based on fact of the influence of mother tongue to students’ pronunciation at English Educational Program (TBI) STAIN Padangsidimpuan the researcher focused on vowel and consonant which is produced by Angkola Students or the students who used Batak Angkola as their daily language.In this research, the researcher wanted to find out about the influence of mother tongue to students pronunciation. The respondents of research was the students of English Educational Program TBI who used Batak Angkola language as their daily language, they were 12 students and almost 80% students used Batak Angkola as their daily language. As the instrument for collecting data the researcher used the test. The researcher made transcribing data for analyzing data.In this occasion, all respondents pronunced the test depend on their daily pronunciation. And they dominantly used the English feature of pronunciation that have a big similarity with the feature of pronunciation of  Batak Angkola.And the last mother tongue had a significant influence, but actually mother tongue also not a big problem in Angkolas’ students in their pronunciation.  And the students have to drill their pronunciation, so that they can pronunce the word as well as the standard of receive pronunciation.Key Words: mother tongue, pronunciation

Abstract

This study presents the story of experience of EFL teacher in teaching and learning process during pandemic by implementing blended learning. The research design was qualitatively through narrative inquiry. Meanwhile, the reach instrument used by the teacher was narrative box and interview guide. Next, the researcher analyzed the story by re-telling narratively, the researcher then segmented the narrative data into themes. The finding of this study reveals that the teacher tried to apply suitable online platform to teach in blended learning, then it was decided that the teacher used Google classroom and WhatsApp. This application was chosen because of the school policy and it was easier for the students to be implemented. Moreover, there were some problems in its implementation; those were internet connection, and students’ awareness.

Abstract

Peneliti mengeksplorasi kemampuan siswa dalam membedakan kalimat majemuk dan kompleks. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menguji kemampuan siswa dalam membedakan senyawa dan kalimat kompleks pada kelas XI SMA Negeri 1 Angkola Selatan. Setelah menganalisis data, peneliti menemukan bahwa kemampuan siswa dalam membedakan kalimat majemuk dan kompleks pada kelas XI SMA Negeri 1 Angkola Selatan dapat dikategorikan cukup, dengan skor rata-rata 51,33 untuk kemampuan dalam kalimat majemuk dan 59,2 untuk kemampuan dalam kompleks. kalimat. Kemudian, berdasarkan data yang terkumpul, data telah dianalisis untuk membuktikan hipotesis dengan menggunakan rumus Z-Test. Hal ini dapat dilihat Z_ (hitung =) - 0,087 Z_ (tabel =) 0,326 dengan tingkat signifikansi 0,05. Artinya hipotesis ditolak. Jadi, kemampuan siswa dalam membedakan kalimat majemuk dan kompleks adalah kemampuan yang cukup.
