Abstract

This study analyzes the impact of the ban on visiting the south coast on students of Raudlatul Ulum 1 Islamic Boarding School (PPRU 1) through a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach. This study investigates the cultural, religious, and social reasons that underlie the ban through active participant observation and interviews. The results of the study indicate that the ban for PPRU 1 students to instill obedience to existing rules and the beauty of the South Coast has more than one meaning and is a multifaceted phenomenon. The ban is not only influenced by mystical beliefs about supernatural powers that exist on the South Coast, but is also deeply internalized with religious values, discipline, and the identity of the students. This ban ensures action as a mechanism of social control of the order and sanctity of the pesantren environment. In addition, this ban creates social boundaries between students and members of society and increases social cohesion among students. The study also reveals that this ban is not a rigid and absolute rule. There are gray nuances in its application, depending on the status of a person's santri and the purpose of the visit to the South Coast. This study contributes by showing the complexity of cultural phenomena in the pesantren environment. The research findings can be included as considerations in the planning and implementation of educational programs in Islamic boarding schools, as well as in efforts to maintain cultural and religious values behind the ban.

Abstract

Access to fast, easy, and humane immigration services is a major challenge amidst the dynamics of urban community needs. The Surabaya Immigration Office responded to this condition through an innovative outreach service known as Eazy Passport. This innovation is designed to reach service users who have limited time and mobility. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the Eazy Passport innovation in improving the accessibility of immigration services, using Parasuraman's service quality theory approach as an analytical framework. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews, field observations, and documentation of immigration officers and Eazy Passport service users. The main research instrument was the researcher himself who played an active role in the data extraction process. Data analysis used data reduction techniques, data presentation, and drawing conclusions according to the Miles and Huberman model. The results of the study showed that the five dimensions of Parasuraman's theory—tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy—have been optimally implemented in the Eazy Passport service. This service has been proven to shorten service time, increase public satisfaction, and expand the reach of services without adding excessive administrative burdens. The conclusion of this study states that the innovation of the jemput bola service has succeeded in becoming an effective strategy in improving the accessibility and quality of immigration services in Surabaya. Further research is suggested to use a quantitative approach or mixed methods to compare the effectiveness of conventional and jemput bola services in the context of different regions or institutions.

Abstract

This study examines the role of caregivers in increasing children's independence at St. Lucy Orphanage using a qualitative approach with observation, interviews, and documentation. Four main roles of caregivers were found: mentor, motivator, role model, and coach. Caregivers apply a holistic and adaptive approach to build children's discipline, responsibility, self-confidence, and life skills. Although effective, the influence of the external environment and the diversity of children's characters need to be considered. These findings are supported by Bandura's social learning theory and Erikson's psychosocial theory. The study recommends ongoing training for caregivers and the development of an integrated coaching program. Longitudinal research is recommended for long-term evaluation.

Abstract

This article discusses the transformation of the public policy paradigm in Indonesia through the integration of progressive legal principles in order to realize legal development that is responsive to the social needs of society. Progressive law, as initiated by Satjipto Rahardjo, emphasizes that the law must side with substantive justice and the needs of the people, not merely enforce rigid and procedural legal certainty. This research uses a normative juridical approach with qualitative analysis of various laws and regulations, legal doctrines, and relevant case studies. The results of the study show that the integration of progressive legal principles into public policy has great potential in bridging the gap between social reality and formalistic legal construction. However, the implementation of this principle is faced with a number of challenges, such as institutional resistance from conservative legal institutions, a legal education paradigm that is still legal-formalistic, and limited public participation in the legislative process. To overcome these obstacles, a comprehensive strategy is needed, including reforming the legal education curriculum, revitalizing law enforcement officials, strengthening the role of civil society, and optimizing information technology in the justice system. With these steps, legal transformation is expected to be not only structural, but also cultural and paradigmatic, so as to realize a national legal system that is more inclusive, fair, and relevant to the dynamics of contemporary Indonesian society.

Abstract

This study analyzes the implementation of inclusive education with a gender equality perspective in Indonesia, focusing on the gap between policy and practice, particularly for vulnerable groups such as girls with disabilities. Using a literature review (2020–2025), theoretical analysis (intersectionality, gender theory, inclusive education), and a case study of the Women’s School in Bali, the research finds that implementation remains partial and faces structural and cultural barriers, including gender stereotypes and limited teacher capacity. The case study highlights the potential of community-based approaches that integrate GEDSI (Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion) and local wisdom to strengthen inclusive practices. The study emphasizes the need for systemic transformation through intersectional approaches, deconstruction of gender norms, and multi-stakeholder collaboration. Recommendations include strengthening intersectional policies, transformative teacher training, inclusive curricula, equitable resource allocation, and participatory research and monitoring.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the strategy of strengthening the character of santri in facing the challenges of globalization at the Darussalam Blokagung Islamic Boarding School. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this study reveals that the integration of Islamic values in the formal and informal learning system of pesantren plays a significant role in shaping the resilient and adaptive character of santri. The process of character education does not only take place through teaching materials, but also through the example of ustadz, family involvement, and a collective pesantren culture. The pesantren combines salaf and khalaf education to produce religious, independent, and globally competitive santri. Adaptive strategies such as strengthening foreign languages, vocational training, and controlling the use of technology are proof of the readiness of pesantren to face the digital era. This research recommends the development of an integrated and contextual character education system so that moral values are preserved amid the increasingly strong globalization.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of peer support and career decision-making on the career interest of Madrasah Aliyah students in Kebonagung District. Using a quantitative approach with purposive sampling, 100 respondents from two accredited private Madrasahs were involved. Three instruments were employed: Instrument A measured peer support based on Sarafino (2011) and Cutrona & Russell (1990), consisting of 4 items covering emotional, instrumental, informational, and appraisal support. Instrument B assessed career decision-making using indicators from Super’s theory (via Creed & Patton, 2004), with 4 items covering career planning, exploration, work information, and decision-making. Instrument C measured career interest based on Holland’s theory (1997), including 4 items: consistency, differentiation, congruence, and calculus. All instruments passed the validity test. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) via SmartPLS 4. Results showed that peer support and career decision-making significantly influence students’ career interest. These findings confirm Holland’s and Super’s theoretical frameworks and highlight the essential role of peer dynamics and structured decision-making in adolescent career development.
