Abstract

Due to the reproductive aging process, the testes, epididymis, and other reproductive organs gradually lose all their physiological capabilities. This study aimed to determine the effect of aging on the sperm quality of Wistar rats (Rattus Norvegicus). The research design is quantitative and descriptive. This study used white male rats (Rattus norvegicus) of the Wistar strain aged 19–20 months. The number of samples was 18 individuals, with a purposive sampling technique following the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Mice were put to sleep on the seventh day, then the cauda epididymis and testes were separated, and a media container was used to accommodate them. The spermatozoa produced were then examined for their motility, morphology, and viability. The results showed that the range, mean, and standard deviation of progressive motility of spermatozoa was 5.83%, 217% ± 1.87%, normal morphology was 39.17%, 61.6% ± 9.57%, and spermatozoa viability was 19.50%, 74.6 ± 5.83%. There was a progressive decrease in motility, but morphology was expected, and spermatozoa viability was within normal limits. This study concludes that aging affects spermatozoa motility, but the morphology and viability of spermatozoa are still within normal limits. Future studies should do genetic analysis to determine how hereditary factors affect sperm quality in aged white rats and compare the results to those of young rats to identify changes in sperm quality.

Abstract

After bleeding, hypertension is the second leading cause of maternal death.  Hypertension is caused by a combination of factors, including increased stress and a low level of albumin. All of these changes will cause complications and necessitate long-term medication therapy. As a result, complementary therapies such as family roles and yoga are required. Many people are unfamiliar with yoga movements, so this study provides innovation by incorporating yoga into a smartphone application. The objective of the study is to determine the differences in the implementation of the Go-Yoga smartphone application and the role of the family in pregnant women in the III trimester on blood pressure and albumin levels. This type of research is quasi-experimental involving 60 pregnant women in the third trimester. In Group I, 20 pregnant women practiced yoga with books; in Group II, 20 pregnant women exercised yoga with the Go-Yoga app without their families; and in Group III, 20 pregnant women practiced yoga with their families. The study's results revealed significant blood pressure, with the third group having the highest average (p = 0.000 1). Pregnant women who utilize the Go-Yoga app with their families have lower blood pressure than other groups. Furthermore, pregnant women who employ the Go-Yoga app with their families have higher albumin levels than other groups. Therefore, this study suggests employing the Go-Yoga application with the family prevents hypertension in pregnancy.

Abstract

Depo hormonal contraceptives are significantly effective contraceptives with a low failure rate. Women who apply this contraceptive may experience several side effects on fat metabolism, which is an increase and decrease in total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C). The objective of this study was to identify the influence of Dutch teak leaves (Guazuma Ulmifolia Lamk) on the cholesterol levels in the Depo acceptors.   Quasi-experiment research design with one group pretest posttest design model. The pretest was completed first by the total number of samples which is 60 respondents. Furthermore, 250 ml of Dutch teak tea is consumed every morning and evening after eating. The intervention lasted two weeks, followed by a retest (posttest). Dutch tea pre and post results were analyzed employing t-test statistics on variable body weight (p = 0.706), systolic blood pressure (p = 0.322), and cholesterol (p = 0.001), and the Wilcoxon test on diastolic pressure variables (p = 0.043) and triglycerides (p = 0.417). With a p-value of 0.001, it demonstrates that there is a significant difference in cholesterol levels after being treated with Dutch teak tea. With a p-value greater than 0.05, there was no difference in triglycerides, weight, or blood pressure after receiving Dutch teak tea treatment. An increase in cholesterol levels is one of the side effects of DMPA acceptors. Therefore, consuming Dutch teak leaves is an alternative treatment option.

Abstract

Labor pain is a subjective experience of physical sensations associated with uterine contractions, dilation, thinning cervix and fetal descent during labor. To resolve the pain of labor, it has been implemented in a nonpharmacological method which is endorphin massage, in understanding endorphin massage for pressing pain in the first stage, in an active phase of normal multiparous mothers' deliveries. This research aims to research endorphin massage's influence on suppressing pain during the active phase of normal labor of multiparous mothers. This study is quasi-experimental with a cross-sectional approach. The study population of all women giving birth administered the purposive sampling data capture techniques, and it was obtained 132 multiparous mothers with normal labor in the observation sheet. Data were examined by administering a T-test. The majority of the pain intensity in the first stage of active phase multiparous mothers with normal labor, before the breath relaxation, is severe, with up to 49% experiencing severe pain. The majority of the percentage of moderate pain in the first stage of active phase multiparous mothers with normal labor, after breath relaxation, is as high as 42%. Meanwhile, the pain intensity of the first stage in active phase multiparous mothers with normal labor, prior to endorphin massage, is as high as 73.3%. Pain intensity of the first stage in active phase multiparous mothers normal labor after endorphin massage, the majority of the percentage is moderate pain up to 53.3%. Statistical test results obtained p-value is 0.004 endorphin massage. In conclusion, there is an effect of breath relaxation on the intensity of pain during normal labor in multiparous mothers. Furthermore, researchers can do a combination of endorpine massage with other treatments to treat pain during the I active phase of labor and pain intensity checks can be done by testing cortisol levels.

Abstract

Obesity is becoming one of the main factors in the increase in non-communicable diseases globally. In Indonesia, the prevalence of central obesity at 15 years and over continues to increase. The increase in visceral fat is related to abnormal metabolisms, such as a decrease in glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity, causing an increase in blood sugar levels, a risk factor for diabetes. To predict the incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus, the abdominal circumference is a better predictor than BMI against type 2 diabetes mellitus. This study aims to determine the relationship between abdominal circumference to blood sugar levels in young women. This research is an observational analytical study using the cross-section method. Sampling in this study used a consecutive sample, which was taken based on inclusion and exclusion criteria in the population. The overall subjects of the study amounted to 70 respondents. The results showed a meaningful relationship between the abdominal circumference and fasting blood sugar levels (p = 0.000) with a moderate correlation (r = 0.440) and a significant relationship between abdominal circumference to blood sugar levels 2 hours after glucose loading (p = 0.030) with a weak correlation (r = 0.259). This study concluded that there is a relationship between abdominal circumference and blood sugar levels using an oral glucose tolerance test in young women. As a recommendation, young women should maintain their lifestyle and keep their abdominal circumference not exceeding 80 centimeters to prevent diabetes.

Abstract

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a carbide tolerance disorder that occurs or is first recognized during pregnancy (usually at 24 weeks gestation). For some patients, this complication returns to normal after delivery. The incidence of macrosomic infants or infants weighing >4000 grams is approximately 5% of all births. Maternal GDM is a significant risk factor in the development of fetal macrosomia. This study aimed to determine the risk factors for macrosomia in newborns. The design of this research is cross-sectional design. The population of this study was macrosomic babies born at Dr. Kariadi Semarang from 2015 until 2021. The formula for estimating the sample size using a hypothesis on the mean of two independent populations obtained a total sample of 60 respondents. The sampling technique is convenience sampling. The type of data used is secondary data. This study was analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The results indicated a relationship between parity and a history of obesity and macrosomia incidence in infants with a p-value < 0.05. In contrast, there was no relationship between maternal age, gestational age, and a history of diabetes in the mother and the incidence of macrosomia in infants with a p-value > 0.05. Therefore, it is essential to educate the mother about the risk factors that can cause complications for both the mother and the fetus, including macrosomia.

Abstract

Every pregnancy carries risks to the quality of birth outcomes, such as low birth weight (LBW). Interventions such as increased maternal knowledge, supervision, and intensive assistance are required, which can be performed by health cadres. The study aimed to examine the impact of knowledge on the incidence of LBW in pregnant women accompanied/assisted by cadres during pregnancy. This method combines descriptive research with a quasi-experiment. The study included 30 pregnant women who fulfilled the following criteria: single pregnancy, 30 weeks gestation, not a high-risk pregnancy, and no comorbidities. The study lasted three months, and the independent variable was the knowledge of pregnant women assisted by cadres, while the dependent variable was the incidence of LBW. Pregnant women's questionnaires and observation sheets were employed as instruments. T-Test and Yates' Correction were utilized during data analysis. The findings revealed a p-value of 0.031 increase in knowledge of pregnant women before and after being assisted by cadres during pregnancy, and the incidence of LBW was 3 cases (10%). With a p-value of 0.041, the results of Yates' Correction statistical test revealed that knowledge of pregnant women assisted by cadres is one of the determinants of the occurrence of LBW. It is critical to increase cadre involvement and role in assisting pregnant women.

Abstract

Early Initiation of Breastfeeding has an important role in the success of exclusive breastfeeding. Early Initiation of Breastfeeding is also one solution to reduce the risk of bleeding among postpartum women. An increase in knowledge and understanding of pregnant women about Early Initiation of Breastfeeding may support the successful implementation of Early Initiation of Breastfeeding. This study aims to determine the effect of knowledge of pregnant women in the third trimester on the implementation of Early Initiation of Breastfeeding. This was an analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design. The study was conducted in June-July 2019. The samples consisted of 30 respondents selected by purposive sampling based on certain inclusion criteria. Data were analyzed using the chi-square test to determine the effect of knowledge of pregnant women in the third trimester on the implementation of early initiation of breastfeeding. The results showed that the majority of respondents had good knowledge and performed early initiation of breastfeeding as many as 27 people (90%). Furthermore, 3 people (10%) had poor knowledge and did not perform early initiation of breastfeeding. It was obtained a p-value of 0.000 <0.05. Such findings revealed that knowledge of pregnant women was one of the factors that can support the successful implementation of Early Initiation of Breastfeeding. It is expected that healthcare workers and related parties can increase the provision of information about the importance of early initiation of breastfeeding, so as to increase knowledge as well as creating better implementation of early initiation of breastfeeding.

Abstract

People who seek self-medication for acute headaches in pharmacies are not properly diagnosed and treated. Irrational drug use has a high potential for causing medication errors. The AKO application is one of the digital counseling service apps managed by a pharmacist who has a strategic role in educating patients on self-medication behavior in telemedicine services. The objective of this study is to identify the benefits of AKO use in increasing rational self-medication behavior in headache complaints. It is a descriptive analysis study with a case-control design. The population is the Lamongan community who have had headache self-medication. Samples were taken by purposive sampling technique. A total of 130 participants were divided into two groups: the intervention group and the control group. A headache self-medication questionnaire was employed as the instrument. The collected data was then analyzed using the Mann Whitney test to determine the value of the AKO application in increasing knowledge of the rationality of self-medication in headache complaints. The data from the measurement of the level of knowledge of the rationality of headache self-medication revealed that the majority of the intervention group (92.3%) had good knowledge and none had poor knowledge. While there are still respondents with less knowledge (15.3%) in the control group. The statistical test results for the benefits of AKO application assistance on the level of knowledge of the rationality of headache self-medication revealed a p value = 0.000, indicating a significant difference between the intervention and treatment groups. The use of telemedicine via the AKO application can increase public awareness of the rational use of headache medications. Digital health services can be used as a medium for counseling and remote patient health monitoring.
