Abstract

This article examines the fundamental impact of digital technology adoption, particularly e-learning platforms and WhatsApp, on teacher–student interaction patterns in madrasahs. The scope of the study focuses on the transformation of pedagogical relationships within Islamic educational settings. Adopting the perspective of the Sociology of Ereignis, this research conceptualizes interaction not merely as an exchange of information, but as a meaningful educational event that is increasingly mediated—and potentially reduced—by digital screens. The study employs a qualitative approach through a systematic literature review, critically analyzed using sociological and philosophical frameworks. The findings indicate an ontological shift from warm, relational, and spiritually grounded interactions (Gemeinschaft) toward more functional, instrumental, and distanced forms of interaction (Digital-Gesellschaft). Furthermore, the study reveals a dialectical paradox of digital technology: while it democratizes access to knowledge and weakens traditional hierarchical structures, it simultaneously risks diminishing the spiritual depth of teacher–student relationships and exacerbating social inequalities through the digital divide. The article concludes that, in order to preserve the essence of Islamic education grounded in ta’dib and tarbiyah, madrasahs must move beyond mere technological adoption and critically reconstruct digital interactions so that they remain authentic educational encounters rather than mere transactions of information.

Abstract

Dress codes in Islamic schools are commonly understood as religious regulations aimed at instilling modesty and moral compliance among students. Such an understanding tends to frame dress codes as individual moral obligations, thereby overlooking their broader social and structural dimensions. This article aims to analyze the social functions of dress codes in Islamic schools from the perspective of the sociology of education. Employing a qualitative-descriptive literature review, this study examines scholarly journal articles, sociological theories, and publicly accessible policy documents from Islamic schools. The findings indicate that dress codes function as mechanisms of bodily discipline, symbols of collective identity formation, and instruments of social control institutionalized within educational systems. Furthermore, dress codes contribute to the reproduction of power relations and social structures through standards of appearance, symbolic representations, and sanction systems. This article argues that dress codes in Islamic schools should not be understood merely as religious norms, but as social practices embedded within the broader project of modern Islamic education.

Abstract

Islamic schools play a strategic role in shaping students’ political and civic awareness amid the increasingly complex socio-political dynamics of Indonesian society. This article aims to systematically examine the role of Islamic schools in cultivating students’ political awareness and civic identity based on findings from previous studies. The method employed is a literature review, analyzing various scholarly sources, including books, journal articles, and policy documents related to Islamic education, civic education, and political education. The findings indicate that Islamic schools contribute significantly through the integration of the national curriculum with Islamic values, particularly within Civic and Pancasila Education, Islamic Religious Education, as well as extracurricular activities and school culture. Islamic values such as justice (al-‘adl), trust (amanah), deliberation (shura), responsibility, tolerance, and social concern serve as ethical foundations in shaping students’ moderate and democratic political attitudes. Moreover, teachers’ roles as role models, participatory school environments, and students’ involvement in school organizations further strengthen the formation of civic awareness. Nevertheless, the review also identifies several challenges, including limited teacher competence, insufficient curriculum integration, and the influence of globalization. Therefore, strengthening political education grounded in Islamic values is essential to developing a generation of Muslims with strong character, political awareness, and responsibility within democratic life.

Abstract

Character education in early childhood forms the basis for holistic human development. While implementing Aqidah Akhlak learning in early childhood education is considered strategic, there is limited empirical evidence on its models and effectiveness in specific contexts. This study analyzes the implementation of Aqidah Akhlak learning and its contribution to character development at Cendana Putih Kindergarten. Using a qualitative single case study design, data were collected through participant observation, semi-structured interviews with five teachers and seven parents, and document analysis. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman (1994) model. Integrated Aqidah Akhlak learning is implemented through value habituation activities, teacher role modeling (uswah), exemplary narratives (qishah), and a supportive environment. This approach significantly shapes children's character, especially in independence, discipline, respect, and responsibility. Collaboration among schools, families, and communities serves as a key reinforcing factor. Contextual and holistic Aqidah Akhlak learning is effective as a foundation for character education in early childhood. The findings recommend developing locally based modules and structured parenting programs for broader application.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the effectiveness of implementing a data analytics-based digital dashboard in improving the transparency, accuracy, and responsiveness of education supervision. The research uses a qualitative method with a case study design combined with a systematic review thru the PRISMA framework. Data collection techniques include field observation, in-depth interviews, performance documentation, and a search of reputable national and international articles. Data analysis techniques used a thematic model, referencing Thematic Analysis by Braun and Clarke, employing a systematic coding process to inductively and deductively identify and interpret key patterns in empirical data, resulting in structured, objective, and contextual interpretations. Data validity was tested using source, technique, and theory triangulation to ensure the validity and reliability of the findings. The research results indicate that utilizing data analytics thru digital dashboards can strengthen performance indicator mapping, provide early detection of quality deviations, present objective visualizations of achievements, and predict risks of declining educational quality, while simultaneously addressing classic problems such as delayed reports, low validity of field findings, and weak coordination between educational units. The implementation of a data analytics-based digital dashboard allows for the real-time, objective, and measurable integration of teacher performance data and learning achievement. The positive impacts include increased transparency, accuracy of evaluation, and speed of supervisory decision-making. Obstacles such as digital literacy limitations and data fragmentation are overcome thru indicator standardization, continuous training, and the integration of systems based on institutional policies.

Abstract

This study focuses on teachers' implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in classroom learning using formative assessment and summative assessment instruments with material scope in accordance with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) academic year version. This study uses a literature study method with reference to case study results, teachers' problems needs presented in previous studies. These research limitations in teachers' implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum, which is adapted to the contextualisation of students' circumstances in subjects that require more attention to supporting aspects, and the influence of the government in the administration that teachers must carry out, thereby restrict innovative space to achieve learning objectives. Teachers' strategies in determining formative and summative assessments appropriate to students' circumstances still have obstacles, so continuous improvement of competence and technological guidance is needed in adapting to students' needs. In addition, teachers' creativity in strategy still needs to be developed, with flexibility being a point of opportunity for objective assessment results.

Abstract

This study examines the phenomenon of change management in transformative Islamic education as a response to global disruption, the Industrial Revolution 4.0, and Society 5.0. The purpose of the study is to analyze how the principles of change management can be integrated with Islamic spiritual values to build educational institutions that are adaptive while remaining grounded in tawhid. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach based on a literature review, utilizing content analysis and conceptual synthesis of various scholarly sources, including books and recent academic journals. The findings indicate that the success of change management in Islamic educational institutions depends on three main aspects: transformational leadership, managerial competence, and effective instructional supervision. The integration of modern change theories—such as the models proposed by Kurt Lewin and Kotter—with Islamic values such as tazkiyah, islah, and tajdid gives rise to a management system that is not only efficient but also spiritual and oriented toward the common good (maslahah). Other supporting factors include the use of educational technology, adaptive organizational restructuring, and a collaborative work culture. This study contributes to the field of Islamic educational management by offering a new theoretical framework that emphasizes that genuine educational transformation can only be realized through the synergy between modern managerial systems and prophetic Islamic ethics.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the application of Appreciative Inquiry (AI) based on the local wisdom of traditional Islamic boarding schools (pesantren salaf) as a strategy to improve the quality of sustainable education. The study uses a qualitative approach with an ethnographic design conducted at Pondok Pesantren Salafiyah Asy-Syafi’iyyah Darul Qur’an. The ethnographic approach is used to capture in depth the daily practices, cultural values, and the underlying meaning in the formation and maintenance of educational quality in the life of the pesantren. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and document studies involving key informants, including the guiding clerics (kiai), pesantren administrators, senior religious teachers (guru ngaji), and senior students (santri). Data analysis was carried out interactively through the processes of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions, while data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation, extended researcher participation in the field, as well as member checking. The study results show that the quality of education in traditional Islamic boarding schools (pesantren salaf) is not understood as adherence to formal standards, but rather as a form of collective reflective awareness rooted in the tradition of kitab discussions, halaqah, the exemplary leadership of kiais, the value of sincerity, and khidmah. Appreciative Inquiry does not appear as a formal managerial model, but transforms into a covert cultural practice that integrates into the social structure of the pesantren, thus allowing quality improvement to occur contextually, evolutionarily, and sustainably without provoking cultural resistance. This study contributes to the development of Islamic education quality management discourse by offering a quality improvement model that is sensitive to local culture and aligns with the identity of traditional pesantren.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the shift of accountability for the quality of Islamic education into the digital public sphere through citizen journalism practices and the dynamics of social media sentiment. The research uses a qualitative approach with an interpretative paradigm and employs descriptive-analytical research methods. Data were collected through digital observation (netnography), documentation of social media content, in-depth interviews with pesantren leaders, social media managers, parents of students, and alumni, as well as literature studies. Data analysis was conducted thematically, combined with qualitative sentiment analysis. Meanwhile, the validity of the data was maintained through source and data triangulation. The research results show that social media has become a social evaluation mechanism that influences the formation of perceptions, trust, and the reputation of Islamic educational institutions. Experience-based citizen journalism practices encourage transparency, public participation, and more open accountability, where institutional legitimacy no longer rests solely on administrative aspects, but on the construction of collective opinion in the digital space. This study contributes to strengthening the perspective of social accountability in the management of the quality of Islamic education in the digital era.
