This is because in 2017/2018 there were only three generations. So, the learning outcomes of this course are not very good. According to an interview with one of the students, one of the reasons is the difficulty of integrating chemical, physical, biological components simultaneously on one particular material. More specifically, students find it difficult to explain one particular material whose translation must be explained comprehensively both in terms of chemistry, physics, biology courses. Therefore, this study aims to improve learning and improve students' critical thinking skills through a scientific approach to Integrated Science courses. This research method uses classroom action research. Learning consists of two cycles. Each cycle consists of several stages, namely; planning, action, observation and reflection. Data collection techniques used are observation and learning outcomes tests. Time is carried out in the even semester of the 2017/2018 academic year. The research subjects were students of the 2017/2018 academic year Tadris IPA study program who were taking the Integrated Science course. The results showed that student learning outcomes carried out during the 2 learning cycles had increased in the second cycle. In addition, students' critical thinking skills in the implementation of learning in the Integrated Science course through a scientific approach can be measured and have been successful based on indicators of success.

Abstract

Online learning is a new thing in the implementation of the learning process for educators and students. With this online learning, teachers are required to have readiness. A teacher who is ready to learn in any condition will be able to improve the quality of the teacher. In addition, the readiness of a teacher to face the learning process has a major influence on the success of education in schools and teachers who have good readiness will be able to improve student learning. The purpose of this study is to reveal various barriers to online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic in terms of the readiness of classroom teachers in elementary schools. The research method used in this research is using descriptive qualitative research methods. The results of the study show various barriers to online learning from the dimensions of teacher readiness. First, the teacher must think of a strategy on how to get children out of their boredom zone. The second obstacle is that sometimes parents complain that they cannot explain in detail to students. The third obstacle is the signal problem. The fourth obstacle is that sometimes parental assistance is lacking because they have to work from morning to evening. The fifth obstacle is not being able to monitor the process directly. This causes the essence of learning that puts forward the process cannot be observed by the teacher. The product is the only thing the teacher can monitor. The conclusion of this study is that the barriers to online learning in terms of the readiness of classroom teachers in elementary schools are a challenge for teachers. This online learning must be prepared by the teacher as the holder of control in the learning process, because as a facilitator, the teacher must provide facilities that support the learning process, especially in this online learning. This makes teachers required to be technology literate and learn many things, especially online-based learning. This online learning system can be used as a model for further learning

Abstract

The application of STEM in Indonesia can be made through an embedded approach using the social, cultural and technological contexts encountered by students daily. This study aimed to reconstruct the context of Cirebon local wisdom, i.e. batik, to be used as a context for embedded STEM chemistry learning in high school. This research used a qualitative method by choosing the Model of Educational Reconstruction (MER) as the research framework. In this study, observations were made on the batik-making process, a literature review to explore the batik context's chemical perspective, and interviews to obtain information about students' preconceptions about batik. The findings indicated that the essential components of batik (fabric, wax, and dye) and the process of batik making were inextricably linked to chemical processes. According to the literature review, the context of batik is connected to several high school chemistry concepts, including organic chemistry (particularly regarding aromatic derivatives and polymers), electromagnetic radiation, chemical bonds, acid-base, oxidation and reduction, and stoichiometry. Meanwhile, it is known from student interviews that students' preconceptions about the scientific content of batik and related chemical concepts remain clearly distinguishable from their correct scientific conceptions. However, students expressed a favourable attitude toward the possibility of incorporating batik into chemistry instruction
