Abstract

Abstract

Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) in pregnant women remains a serious public health challenge due to its impact on both maternal and fetal health, ranging from delivery complications and anemia to the risk of low birth weight (LBW) and stunting. Data from the Tolitoli District Health Office in 2023 reported 406 cases of CED among pregnant women, with the highest prevalence (19.2%) found in Baolan Subdistrict. This condition highlights the need to strengthen the role of community health cadres in early detection and nutritional support for pregnant women. This Community Service Program aimed to improve cadres’ knowledge and skills in monitoring maternal nutritional status through simple anthropometric measurements (Mid-Upper Arm Circumference, body weight, and height). The activity was conducted in Buntuna Village, within the working area of Baolan Health Center, Tolitoli District, on July 30, 2025, involving 18 health cadres. The methods included education using presentations and booklets, a question-and-answer session, and hands-on practice of anthropometric measurements. Knowledge was assessed using pre- and post-tests with questionnaires, while skills were observed using a checklist-based assessment. The post-test results indicated a significant improvement in knowledge from 40% to 86%, while skills increased from 11% to 100%. Prior to the intervention, only two cadres were skilled, but after training, all participants were able to perform measurements accurately. These findings demonstrate that practice-based training is effective in strengthening cadre capacity and has the potential to enhance the effectiveness of CED prevention programs at the community level.

Abstract

The Generasi Berencana Peduli Organ Reproduksi Perempuan (GEnRE POP) program aims to empower adolescents and improve their knowledge of reproductive health. The program was implemented in Bukit Bambu Village, Poso District, involving 20 adolescents aged 15–19 years. Activities included an initial survey, interactive health education, peer facilitator training, establishment of a support group, and evaluation using pre- and post-tests. Results showed a substantial improvement in participants’ knowledge, with average scores increasing from 45 to 85 (88.9%). The program also succeeded in forming a youth reproductive health support group and enhancing participants’ communication skills through peer educator training. This participatory approach created an inclusive learning environment that encouraged adolescents to become change agents in promoting reproductive health within their community. Overall, the GEnRE POP program proved effective in increasing adolescent reproductive health literacy and is recommended for continued implementation with support from local government, health workers, and educational institutions.

Abstract

Cardiovascular disease is still the leading cause of global death and shows an increasing trend in Indonesia, including in semi-urban and rural areas such as Marawola District, Sigi Regency. Low health literacy and limited access to services are challenges in preventing and detecting this disease. This community service activity aims to improve early detection and promotive-preventive interventions of cardiovascular diseases through the Interprofessional Collaboration (IPC) approach. The implementation method involved seven villages with a target of 210 heads of families (321 individuals). Activities include coordination, socialization, health screening (blood pressure, blood sugar levels, cholesterol, BMI, and abdominal circumference), health education, and profession-based interventions (nursing, midwifery, nutrition, and sanitation). The screening results showed the prevalence of hypertension at 44.1%, pre-hypertension at 48.7%, diabetes mellitus at 11.5%, high cholesterol at 39%, and obesity and overweight at 43.6%. The collaborative intervention through education about the efforts of blood pressure and improved participants' understanding of nutrition, environmental cleanliness, and medication adherence. The discussion emphasized that the IPC accelerates problem identification, enriches interventions, and increases community involvement. However, limited time and laboratory equipment are obstacles that must be fixed in future activities. In conclusion, integrating IPC in community-based cardiovascular screening and intervention programs is feasible and sustainable.

Abstract

Lero Tatari Village is an area that has a high level of vulnerability to emergencies in coastal communities because of its location on the coast, some of the people work as fishermen and live along the coast of Lero Village, Sindue District. This activity aims to increase the ability of the Lero Tatari Village community to respond to coastal community emergencies. The method of implementing community service activities is carried out through surveys, lectures, discussions, simulations, observations, mentoring and evaluation of activities by filling in post test questionnaires. The evaluation results showed that most respondents had a good knowledge score of > 75 (76.7%) after being given counseling regarding first aid in emergencies in coastal communities. The statistical test results obtained a P value of 0.024, so it can be said that there is a significant relationship between age and respondents' knowledge with a moderate strength of relationship. The conclusion was that providing education and simulations can increase people's knowledge and abilities regarding emergency first aid.

Abstract

Stunting is often caused by inadequate maternal nutrition during pregnancy, suboptimal breastfeeding practices, delayed introduction of complementary foods, and impaired nutrient absorption due to infections. This community engagement activity aimed to improve parents' knowledge of balanced diets and conduct anemia screening among infants and toddlers in Wab and Debut Villages, Southeast Maluku Regency. The methods included interactive education sessions, distribution of educational leaflets, questionnaire administration, and assessments of nutritional status and hemoglobin levels in children. The activity was carried out over two days. Results showed that most mothers had limited knowledge of balanced nutrition for young children, although their understanding of the First 1,000 Days of Life was relatively adequate. In Wab Village, 15 out of 68 children were undernourished and 28 were anemic, while in Debut Village, 25 out of 80 children were undernourished and 26 were anemic. These findings highlight the urgent need for more intensive nutrition education and sustained interventions to improve child health in the region.
