Abstract

This study is aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of using E-learning as a media of basicJapanese language listening material. The respondents are Basic Learners A2 level basedon CEFR and JFS. News from NHK Radio and video clips from NHK TV were designedas the listening materials to exercise the ability of predicting listening material contents.The respondents were asked to do the tasks inside university e-learning website. The resultshows that using E-learning as a media of listening material for basic language learners iseffective in condition of audio-visual task instead of audio task.

Abstract

Japanese learners are required to have multiple intelligences in order to master kanjiparticularly Rikusho. Conducted in Japanese Department of Language and Art Faculty ofState University of Jakarta (UNJ) in 2015 with 43 respondents, the aims of this research isto know students’ level of competence in conjecturing kanji particularly in: 1) The use ofkai’i moji to represent countries, 2) The standardized form and the meaning of kanji basedon its origins and its’ classification based on rikusho. The results shows that therespondents’ level of competence is below average in conjecturing Kai’i Moji, mostly onaverage level in conjecturing standardized kanji with its meaning and in classifying kanjibased on types of rikusho.

Abstract

The aims of this essay is to describe wakamono kotoba on the YouTube channel Jhonnys' Jr. HiHi Jets vlog which is reviewed from the pattern of word formation, words meaning, and the phenomenon of using wakamono kotoba. The data collection method used was the note-taking method and analyzed using the referential equivalent method, then the research results would be described descriptively. The results of this study were 27 wakamono kotoba found on the YouTube channel Jhonnys' Jr. HiHi Jets vlog consists of five words formation that is clipping, affixation, foreign language borrowing, composition, and sound conversion. It was found that wakamono kotoba has changes in meaning and function from its original form, this word means to show a feeling of disbelief or surprise and its function changes to an adverb, and there are words that has changes in meaning without a word formation process, as well as words that do not changes its original meaning and form. Wakamono kotoba is used by young people to convey their feelings and thoughts with exaggeration.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the style of language rhetorical form of alliteration, hyperbole, and rhetorical questions. Furthermore, the style of figurative language in the form of simile, metaphor, metonimia, and personification that also observed in the text of the manuscript of the speech contained on the winner from the first and the second winner of the National Japanese Speech Contest The Japan Foundation in 2018-2019. This research apply qualitative descriptive analysis method: the author collects the data using documentation technique. Afterwards, the basic techniques (immediate constituents technique) from agih method is applied to to analyze the data. The finding of the study shows there are 22 data, on the style of the language of rhetorical; zero alliteration, one hyperboles, and 10 rhetorical questions. Then on the style of figurative language there are three similes, six metaphors, zero metonimia, and two personifications. The style of language that most used is rhetorical questions. A rhetorical question is intended to reinforce the words to be conveyed as well as the provoke technique of conversation by forcing the listener to join as well as thinking to solve the problem.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to understand the semantic change of the word "smart" in Japanese. "Smart" is originally an English word, meaning Clever, Fashionable, and Smart. However, in Japanese, "smart" has four meanings: "clever," "fashionable," "high-tech," and "slim." The question in this study is how the change in the meaning of “Sumaato” occurs, grammatically based on context and structure. This research was conducted by the method of literature perspective, with reference to books, journals, and online articles. The data source is taken from Twitter by searching for the keyword "Sumaato" in the search column, then translate to Indonesia Language, and compared with equivalent word based on KBBI. As a result of this research, from the context, from the four meanings of "smart," the only semantic change is "slim" which is categorized as semantic shift. And from the grammatical structure, you can also add the suffix "Sa" after the word "smart". Keywords: semantic change, semantic shift, sumaato

Abstract

This study discusses the use of the STAD (Student Teams Achievement Division) learning model using the karuta game media in learning hiragana letters. The use of this model and media includes small groups where learners will work together to match the torifuda cards read by the yomifuda card reader. Reference collection in this research is books, articles, journals and websites. This study aims to determine the steps of using the STAD (Student Teams Achievement Division) learning model using the karuta card media in learning hiragana letters, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of the karuta card media and the STAD learning model in learning hiragana letters using descriptive qualitative research methods the results are obtained on the judgment of the expert (expert judgment). The use of media and learning models aims to be an alternative that can be used during the learning process to make it easier for learners hiragana letters.

Abstract

This research aims to find out the use of google meet in Japanese online learning at SMAN 1 Cibarusah and the obstacles that occur to teachers and students while using google meet in Japanese online learning. The background of this research is based on the results of interviews with teachers of SMAN 1 Cibarusah that there are obstacles that occur to teachers and students in using Google Meet as a new platform in teaching and learning activities. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. The research instruments are observation, questionnaires and interview. Based on the research results, it is known that the use of google meet in Japanese online learning can overcome the limitations of the distance between teachers and students so that Japanese teaching and learning activities can still be carried out properly. However, some students and teachers are constrained by signals while using google meet. Videos and sounds are often paused, causing in students having difficulty in concentrating and being able to understand the material explanation from the teacher. In addition, there are other obstacles, namely the difficulty of teachers monitoring students while learning and difficulties in conducting assessments. The number of students in one class reaches 121 people so that the teacher cannot control the students one by one. Likewise, students experience fatigue, eyesore, passiveness, find it difficult to understand the learning material, and feel that the learning environment is unconducive.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the process of learning writing Japanese for novice learner. Stakeholders expect to hire graduates with skillful Japanese competence. Nevertheless, teaching writing has a lot of constrains due to the time availability, checking and giving feedbacks to learners. The focus of this research is to identify the problems in conducting writing classes, in the terms of teaching materials, allocation of time, feedback and revision. Evaluation was conducted based on the study on process approach and product approach and the learning models of writing. The result shows that teaching writing at this level accommodates both the process approach and the result approach. Writing activity may exercise grammar, but at the same time writing may exercise critical thinking, on how to deliver facts and thoughts. Conclusions and suggestions from this research, namely learning writing composition may start at the novice stage. Coordination with other language skills is advisory, especially in sharing similar topic in order to frequently use same vocabulary and sentence pattern. Therefore, writing session may focus on paragraph writing and coherency of composition.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to obtain the information needed so that it can describe the need for preparation of Kanji teaching materials at the beginner level based on 21st century skills for students of the Japanese Language Education Study Program FBS UNJ. This research is an exploratory descriptive study with the See, Plan, Do (SPD) model. The sample in this study was the first semester students of PSPBJ consisting of 79 peoples. This study will explain the needs of students and lecturers for kanji textbooks at the beginner level based on 21st century skills. The kanji textbooks in the Japanese Language Education Study Program UNJ are quite good in terms of appearance and content. However, students and lecturers expect more practice, especially writing exercises, so that there will be more opportunities to use kanji in sentences and discourse. Based on the situation analysis that has been done, it is necessary to have a plan to arrange kanji exercises in the form of a website or digital so that students can access them anywhere and anytime easily. This exercise is packaged in various types of questions and will present games or games so that students feel motivated to practice kanji.

Abstract

This research is part of the research on curriculum development of the Japanese Language Education Study Program FBS UNJ. There are two things behind this research, namely the Japanese Language Education Study Program curriculum has undergone several changes since its establishment in 2006 until now, the 2006, 2007, 2010, 2015 and 2019 curriculum, as well as the demands for curriculum achievement in the 21st century, that is creativity and innovation. As a preliminary study, this research focuses on the relevance of stakeholder needs to the development of a 21st century skills-based curriculum. The results of the research are the basis for developing the 21st century skills-based Independent Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) curriculum. The methodology used is a descriptive research method by taking data through questionnaires and interviews that aim to determine the relevance of stakeholder needs to the development of a 21st century skills-based curriculum. As a curriculum based on 6C skills; creativity, critical thinking, character, collaboration, communication and computational thinking, the perception of stakeholder needs will be known for its relevance to development 21st century skills-based curriculum. The results show that the 21st century-based curriculum is relevant to the needs of stakeholders, because the curriculum synergizes with graduate workplace conditions. However, strengthening of communication skills in foreign languages, collaboration in teams, and critical thinking needs to be improved and maximized in lectures.
