Abstract

Reading literature of other nations is a process of intercultural learning (cross-cultural learning) so we are open to different cultures and values of a particular nation. These values play a role in the formation of the character of a cultural group, even the character of a nation. Through a cross-cultural approach to novel Ntaidu” worked by Muslim Burmat, here the thought process is expected to unfold Brunei society, whether in relation to the concept of Malay and Islamic concepts that they believe. The essence of the issue in the novel ‘Ntaidu is how leaders are able to perform the duties and functions of leadership for the progress of the village community. The issue that may arise in the future not only to droughts, but rather how they are able to educate the villagers to meet a better life. The way that we do it is not easy, even quite difficult. However, based on the understanding that the essence of the literary work and the multi-interpretation and multi-meaning, our understanding of the literary work can still be considered valid

Abstract

This study aims to identify the challenges, learning needs, and weaknesses in the intrinsic elements of children’s storybooks written by prospective elementary school teachers. The research employed a mixed methods approach with data collected through questionnaires, interviews, and content analysis. Questionnaires were distributed to 122 students from the Primary School Teacher Education (PGSD) and Islamic Primary School Teacher Education (PGMI) programs to identify challenges and learning needs in writing children’s stories. Interviews were conducted with two lecturers teaching children’s literature to explore their perspectives on students’ difficulties. In addition, a content analysis was carried out on 13 student works, consisting of nine children’s storybooks and four educational books, to examine weaknesses in intrinsic elements. Data were analyzed descriptively through triangulation of survey, interview, and content analysis results. The findings reveal that the main challenges lie in narrative perspective (49.18%), plot development (39.35%), and characterisation (36.89%). In terms of learning needs, students require more training in language use (34.43%) and the development of creative originality (31.15%). The content analysis supports these findings, showing narrative weaknesses such as abrupt resolutions, static characters, and the use of unimaginative and non-contextual language. These results highlight the need for a more contextual, practical, and child-literacy-oriented model of story-writing instruction.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the linguistic characteristics in digital literacy enrichment books with eco green content for junior high school students. The main focus of the research is how language is used contextually, transformatively, and interactively to build environmental awareness and improve students' literacy skills. This research used a qualitative approach with content analysis method. Data collection techniques included document analysis of digital books, observation of students' interaction with interactive features, and structured interviews with teachers and linguists. The data were analysed through three stages: text identification based on environmental themes, categorization into three linguistic approaches, and evaluation of language effectiveness through source triangulation. The results showed that the selection of specific diction, imperative sentence structure, and integration of digital features such as video tutorials and interactive infographics were able to connect environmental concepts with students' real actions. Language in the book does not only function as a conveyor of information, but also as an instrument of identity formation, active participation, and transformation of learning into meaningful social practices. This research confirms the important role of language in creating holistic and sustainability-oriented digital literacy media.

Abstract

Syntactic aspect of Javanese language entirely had not been touched yet by linguistic research in Indonesia, especially by applying modern linguistic theory. The use of tagmemic theory in this research found active and passive construction of Javanese language was systemic. The finding involved (1) active and passive dichotomy was only found in dwitransitive clause construction (four tagmem required) and transitive clause (three tagmem required), whilst in dwi-transitive and intransitive clause found no passive opposition even when the clause had active construction, moreover dwi-equative and equative clause were not found neither active nor passive construction. Either dwi-transitive or transitive clause, it was found (2) active construction attributing prefix (N-) on verb class filling predicate tagmem. In passive construction (3) it was found two types of passive construction, they were (a) passive construction having the third dower or no-human and called common passive, marked by the use of prefix di- on filling verb of predicate tagmem, (b) passive construction having the second dower marked by the use of kok-/kon- on filling verb og predicate tagmem, and (c) passive construction having the first dower marked by the use of tak-/dak- on filling verb of predicate tagmem. Besides that, there was finding of dwi-transitive forming of tagmem derived from transitive verb marked by suffix -ke,-ne,-e. The finding is intensely useful in effort of improving codification and arrangement of Javanese language material learning.

Abstract

Corruption is a big problem in Indonesia, and it is always reporting on media. One of them is illegal retribution in school. This research discusses the transitivity of news text regarding the wild levy at school. The aim is to describe the meaning of the material process through the verb of  transitivity in reporting illegal retribution at school. The method used is a descriptive- qualitative method with a critical discourse analysis approach by Norman Fairclough. Data on this research are transitive sentences, and the source of the data is the news text of illegal retribution at school, which takes from the online media of beritakotamakassar. fajar.co.id., and makassar.tribunnews.com with ten titles of news regarding the wild retribution at school published in March 2017. The results of this research indicate that in terms of transitivity, online media (beritakotamakassar.fajar.co.id and makassar.tribunnews.com) use meaningful material processes of actions, circumstances, events, and mental processes (behaviors) in reporting case of the illegal retribution at school. This transitivity reveals that these two online media use more active verbs rather than passive verbs, which indicate that media are more likely to mention actors rather than to hide subjects, in particular on the dominant actor or subject. Dominant subjects are shown or highlighted by using active verbs, while dominated actors are displayed using passive verbs. The more dominant active verb used is the active verb, which states the meaning of action. It indicates that both media strongly support the steps or actions taken by Law Institutions (Kejari) in handling cases of illegal retribution in school.
