SAWERIGADING is a journal aiming to publish literary studies researches, either Indonesian, local, or foreign literatures. All articles in SAWERIGADING have passed reviewing process by peer reviewers and edited by editors. SAWERIGADING is published by Balai Bahasa Sulawesi Selatan twice times a year, in June and December. SAWERIGADING focuses on publishing research articles and current issues related to language, literature, and the instructor. The main objective of SAWERIGADING is to provide a platform for scholars, academics, lecturers, and researchers to share contemporary thoughts in their fields. The editor has reviewed all published articles. SAWERIGADING accepts submissions of original articles that have not been published elsewhere nor being considered or processed for publication anywhere, and demonstrate no plagiarism whatsoever. The prerequisites, standards, and format of the manuscript are listed in the author guidelines and templates. Any accepted manuscript will be reviewed by at least two referees. Authors are free of charge throughout the whole process, including article submission, review and editing process, and publication.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the feasibility of Indonesian as the official language of ASEAN and explain the supporting factors. This type of research is classified as qualitative research. The approach used is a sociolinguistic approach. The data sources in this research are books or manuscripts related to Indonesian as the official language of ASEAN. The data collection techniques used are note-taking techniques, participatory observation techniques, and documentation techniques. The results of this research show that Indonesian has the potential to become the official language of ASEAN. The factors that support Indonesian becoming an ASEAN language are (1) history of the Indonesian language, (2) Indonesian language regulations, (3) ASEAN language regulations, (4) Indonesian for Foreign Speakers (BIPA), and (5) attitudes and language politics. These five factors work together so that Indonesian deserves to be the official language of ASEAN. AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kelayakan bahasa Indonesia sebagai bahasa resmi ASEAN dan memaparkan faktor-faktor pendukungnya. Jenis penelitian ini tergolong penelitian kualitatif. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah pendekatan sosiolinguistik. Adapun sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah buku atau naskah-naskah yang berhubungan dengan bahasa Indonesia sebagai bahasa resmi ASEAN.  Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah teknik catat, teknik observasi partisipatif, dan teknik dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa bahasa Indonesia memilki potensi untuk menjadi bahasa resmi ASEAN. Faktor-faktor yang menjadi pendukung bahasa Indonesia menjadi bahasa ASEAN yakni (1) sejarah bahasa Indonesia, (2) regulasi bahasa Indonesia, (3) regulasi bahasa ASEAN, (4) Bahasa Indonesia untuk Penutur Asing (BIPA), dan (5) sikap dan politik bahasa. Kelima faktor tersebut saling bersinergi sehingga bahasa Indonesia layak menjadi bahasa resmi ASEAN.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze online news texts using Norman Fairclough’s critical discourse analysis (CDA) approach. The research employs Fairclough’s three-dimensional CDA model with data sourced from online news articles published by Kompas.com. The data were collected through documentation techniques involving news texts relevant to issues of sexual violence. The analysis was conducted across three dimensions: description (text), interpretation (discursive practice), and explanation (social practice). The findings reveal that the media present information in a neutral and formal linguistic style, yet implicitly obscure the position of victims while reinforcing institutional narratives. Victims are rarely given adequate representational space, whereas perpetrators are often protected through euphemistic expressions or the omission of identity. At the level of social practice, the media indirectly contribute to the reproduction of patriarchal structures and unequal power relations. Thus, language in media texts functions not merely as a tool of communication but also as an ideological instrument that shapes public interpretations of sexual violence cases. AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis teks pemberitaan media online dengan menggunakan pendekatan analisis wacana kritis model Norman Fairclough. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan Analisis Wacana Kritis model Norman Fairclough dengan sumber data berupa berita daring dari media Kompas.com. Data dikumpulkan melalui teknik dokumentasi terhadap teks berita yang relevan dengan isu kekerasan seksual. Analisis dilakukan melalui tiga dimensi, yakni deskripsi (teks), interpretasi (praktik wacana), dan eksplanasi (praktik sosial). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa media menyampaikan informasi dengan gaya bahasa yang netral dan formal, tetapi secara tidak langsung mengaburkan posisi korban dan memperkuat narasi dari pihak institusi. Korban jarang diberi ruang representasi dalam berita, sementara pelaku sering kali dilindungi dengan penggunaan istilah eufemistik atau penghapusan identitas. Dalam konteks praktik sosial, media secara tidak langsung turut mereproduksi struktur sosial yang patriarkis dan relasi kuasa yang timpang. Dengan demikian, bahasa dalam teks media bukanlah sekadar alat komunikasi, tetapi juga instrumen ideologis yang memengaruhi cara publik memaknai peristiwa kekerasan seksual.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the Cupu Panjala tradition from the perspective of Maurice Halbwachs' collective memory, in order to understand how community social memory shapes collective awareness of disaster risk. This research used a qualitative approach with field study methods involving non-participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation of symbols that emerge during the cupu opening ritual in Mendak Hamlet, Girisekar, Gunungkidul. Data were analyzed through descriptive-interpretive analysis by interpreting the relationship between symbols, oral narratives, and the community's socio-cultural context. The results indicate that the Cupu Panjala tradition functions as a medium for transmitting cultural values, strengthening collective identity, and providing a disaster mitigation strategy based on local wisdom that is more readily accepted by the community than modern approaches. Thus, this tradition has the potential to be integrated into participatory, contextual, and sustainable disaster risk reduction strategies.AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji tradisi Cupu Panjala dalam perspektif memori kolektif Maurice Halbwachs, guna memahami bagaimana ingatan sosial masyarakat membentuk kesadaran kolektif terhadap risiko bencana. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi lapangan yang melibatkan observasi non-partisipan, wawancara mendalam, dan dokumentasi simbol-simbol yang muncul dalam ritual pembukaan cupu di Dusun Mendak, Girisekar, Gunungkidul. Data dianalisis melalui analisis deskriptif-interpretatif dengan menafsirkan hubungan antara simbol, narasi lisan, dan konteks sosial budaya masyarakat. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tradisi Cupu Panjala berfungsi sebagai media transmisi nilai budaya, penguatan identitas kolektif, sekaligus strategi mitigasi bencana berbasis kearifan lokal yang lebih mudah diterima masyarakat dibandingkan pendekatan modern. Dengan demikian, tradisi ini memiliki potensi untuk diintegrasikan dalam strategi pengurangan risiko bencana yang bersifat partisipatif, kontekstual, dan berkelanjutan.

Abstract

The descriptive text is one of the important learning materials in Indonesian language lessons for seventh-grade junior high school students. However, there are still several problems that occur in the learning process of descriptive texts. Based on the analysis of these learning problems, it was found that no innovative learning media have been optimally utilized. In addition, the learning of descriptive texts still relies heavily on textbooks, making it less contextual. Therefore, developing a board game as a learning medium for descriptive texts that integrates local wisdom is important. The method used is research and development (RD) with the ADDIE model. The product was validated by experts, including material experts, learning media experts, and practitioners. Furthermore, at the evaluation stage, user response tests involving teachers and students were conducted to assess the board game medium. Abstract

This study investigates how Metro News and Kumparan.com represent the relocation of Indonesia’s new capital (IKN), focusing on power and identity in media discourse. Using Norman Fairclough’s critical discourse analysis at micro-, meso-, and macrostructural levels, a qualitative approach analyzes online news excerpts and interviews through a matching method validated by triangulation. Findings indicate that Metro News constructs an oppositional identity by critically framing President Jokowi’s policies, reflecting the ideological stance and institutional influence of its ownership. In contrast, Kumparan.com emphasizes government achievements, portraying a progressive and development-oriented identity of the administration. The analysis shows that media discourse functions both as a political watchdog and as a constructor of social and political identities, shaping public perception and legitimizing authority. The study underscores the importance of media literacy, transparency, and public dialogue in fostering critical awareness of strategic national issues such as capital relocation. Further research is recommended to examine how media representations of power and identity affect policy reception and public opinion. AbstrakStudi ini menyelidiki tentang bagaimana Metro News dan Kumparan.com merepresentasikan relokasi Ibu Kota Baru Indonesia (IKN), dengan fokus pada kekuasaan dan identitas dalam wacana media. Menggunakan analisis wacana kritis Norman Fairclough pada tingkat mikro, meso, dan makrostruktural, pendekatan kualitatif menganalisis kutipan berita daring dan wawancara melalui metode pencocokan yang divalidasi oleh triangulasi. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa Metro News membangun identitas oposisional dengan membingkai secara kritis kebijakan Presiden Jokowi, yang mencerminkan sikap ideologis dan pengaruh kelembagaan pemiliknya. Sebaliknya, Kumparan.com menekankan pencapaian pemerintah, menggambarkan identitas pemerintahan yang progresif dan berorientasi pembangunan. Analisis menunjukkan bahwa wacana media berfungsi baik sebagai pengawas politik maupun sebagai konstruktor identitas sosial dan politik, membentuk persepsi publik dan melegitimasi otoritas. Studi ini menggarisbawahi pentingnya literasi media, transparansi, dan dialog publik dalam menumbuhkan kesadaran kritis terhadap isu-isu nasional strategis seperti relokasi ibu kota. Penelitian lebih lanjut disarankan untuk mengkaji bagaimana representasi media tentang kekuasaan dan identitas mempengaruhi penerimaan kebijakan dan opini publik.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the perceptions of eighth-grade students regarding the use of the canva application as an interactive learning medium for popular scientific articles. The research employed a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected through questionnaires distributed to 32 students of class VIII G at MTs Negeri 4 Cirebon. The results indicate that students’ perceptions across four indicators—acceptance, understanding, evaluation, and reaction—are categorized as highly positive. Canva is considered effective in capturing attention, enhancing creativity, and fostering motivation and active participation. These findings align with Keller’s ARCS model, Mayer’s Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning, and Vygotsky’s Zone of Proximal Development. Overall, Canva is recommended as an innovative interactive learning medium that supports the development of students’ digital literacy in modern learning contexts.  AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan persepsi siswa kelas VIII terhadap penggunaan aplikasi canva sebagai media pembelajaran interaktif pada materi artikel ilmiah populer. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan pengumpulan data melalui kuesioner kepada 32 siswa kelas VIII G di MTs Negeri 4 Cirebon. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa persepsi siswa terhadap empat indikator—penerimaan, pemahaman, penilaian, dan reaksi berada pada kategori sangat positif. Aplikasi canva dinilai efektif dalam menarik perhatian, meningkatkan kreativitas, serta menumbuhkan motivasi dan partisipasi aktif siswa. Temuan ini sejalan dengan teori ARCS Keller, Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning Mayer, dan Zone of Proximal Development Vygotsky. Secara keseluruhan, canva dapat direkomendasikan sebagai media pembelajaran interaktif yang inovatif dan mendukung pengembangan literasi digital siswa dalam pembelajaran modern.

Abstract

Moyangku through character dialogues and narratives in several scenes of the film. The research method uses a qualitative approach with a constructivist paradigm. Data collection techniques were employed through documentation, which involved categorizing the data into three types: primary data, secondary data, and supporting data. Data analysis was conducted using Chatman's narrative analysis, which distinguishes between story and discourse to examine the narrative and visual meanings conveyed as messages. The results of the study found that the documentary film Tanah Moyangku constructs indigenous peoples as victims of discrimination and marginalization as a result of the conflicts they face. This film depicts various conflicts faced by indigenous peoples in Indonesia, both violent (arrests, killings, and land seizures) and non-violent (lack of clear legal protection, suppression of land rights, suppression of customary rights, evictions and historical erasure, and lack of adequate mediation). These conflicts are also related to the increasing management and exploitation of natural resources. If this marginalization and discrimination continue, indigenous peoples will be threatened with expulsion from their lands, and in the worst case, they will be threatened with extinction. AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis bagaimana masyarakat adat dikostruksikan dalam teks film dokumenter Tanah Moyangku berupa dialog tokoh dan narasi dalam beberapa adegan film. Metode penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan paradigma konstruktivisme. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan dokumentasii dengan membagi tiga jenis data yaitu data primer, data sekunder, dan data pendukung. Teknik analisis data dilakukan dengan menggunakan analisis naratif Chatman yang membedakan antara story dan discourse untuk melihat makna naratif dan visual sebagai pesan yang disampaikan. Hasil penelitian menemukan bahwa film dokumenter Tanah Moyangku mengonstruksikan masyarakat adat yang mendapatkan diskriminasi dan marginalisasi imbas dari konflik yang mereka terima. Film ini menggambarkan berbagai konflik masyarakat adat di Indonesia, baik yang bersifat kekerasan (penangkapan, pembunuhan, dan perampasan tanah) maupun non-kekerasan (tidak ada perlindungan hukum yang jelas, penindasan hak tanah, penindasan hak adat, penggusuran dan penghapusan historis, dan tidak ada ruang mediasi yang layak). Konflik tersebut juga berkaitan dengan pengelolaan dan eksploitasi sumber daya alam yang terus bertambah. Jika marginalisasi dan diskriminasi ini terus berlangsung, maka masyarakat adat akan terancam terusir dari tanah mereka, bahkan hal yang paling buruk adalah mereka terancam punah.

Abstract

This study describes the application of a perennial perspective in teaching politeness and its impact on students' character development, particularly in the context of Indonesian language education. Using a qualitative research approach, this study employed content analysis of existing literature on perennials and politeness in educational settings. Data collection techniques used were reading and note-taking, enriched by literature review and documentation studies. The research findings indicate that incorporating a perennial perspective in teaching politeness increases students' moral awareness and strengthens their capacity for ethical and empathetic communication. Perennialism, which emphasizes timeless moral principles, offers a strong foundation for cultivating politeness, particularly in an era of rapid social and technological change. This study contributes to the growing body of literature on how a perennial approach can positively impact the moral and social dimensions of language learning. AbstrakPenelitian ini mendeskripsikan penerapan perspektif perennial dalam pengajaran kesantunan berbahasa dan dampaknya terhadap pengembangan karakter siswa, khususnya dalam konteks pendidikan bahasa Indonesia. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan penelitian kualitatif, penelitian ini menggunakan analisis isi dari literatur yang ada tentang perennial dan kesantunan berbahasa dalam lingkungan pendidikan. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah teknik baca dan catat, dan diperkaya dengan studi literatur dan studi dokumentasi. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa menggabungkan perspektif perennial dalam pengajaran kesantunan berbahasa meningkatkan kesadaran moral siswa dan memperkuat kapasitas mereka untuk komunikasi yang etis dan empatik. Perennialisme, yang menekankan prinsip-prinsip moral yang abadi, menawarkan landasan yang kuat untuk menumbuhkan kesantunan berbahasa, khususnya di era perubahan sosial dan teknologi yang cepat. Penelitian ini berkontribusi pada semakin banyaknya literatur tentang bagaimana pendekatan perennial dapat berdampak positif pada dimensi moral dan sosial pembelajaran bahasa.
