This research employed a qualitative approach by analyzing the visual meanings represented in the Pay Later series using Roland Barthe’s semiotic framework. The findings indicate that, at the denotative level, consumerist behavior is representated through shopping activities, the use of pay later services, and the ownership of goods perceived as having high value. At the connotative level, such behavior reflects individuals’ desire to gain social recognition, enhance self-image, and conform to a modern lifestyle. At the mythological level, the Pay Later series represents a cultural construction that perceives the ownership of goods and the ability tp follow trends as symbols of success and social status. The study concludes that the Pay Later series not only represents consumerist behavior as an individual practice but also portrays it as a social phenomenon influenced by consumer culture and the accessibility of digital credit service.

Abstract

Deep learning has emerged as an educational approach that emphasizes mindful, meaningful, and joyful learning processes. This study aims to examine the effect of deep learning understanding on teacher readiness among Economics Education students at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Halu Oleo University. Employing a quantitative approach, this study examines deep learning understanding as the independent variable and teacher readiness as the dependent variable. The respondents comprised 100 seventh-semester students who had completed the School Field Introduction Program. Data were analyzed using normality and linearity tests, simple linear regression analysis, a partial (t) test, and the coefficient of determination. The findings indicate that deep learning understanding has a positive and significant effect on teacher readiness, as evidenced by a t-value of 7.845 and a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05. The coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.674 indicates that deep learning understanding accounts for 67.4% of the variance in teacher readiness. These findings underscore the importance of strengthening students' understanding of deep learning as a strategic foundation for preparing Economics Education students to become adaptive and professional prospective teachers.

Abstract

Abstract

English vocabulary learning can be challenging for young learners with intellectual disability, particularly when new words are presented without meaningful connections to familiar experiences. This qualitative case study explored how concrete objects were used to support English vocabulary learning among Grade II students with intellectual disability at SLB Negeri Semarang. Data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, and documentation and were analyzed thematically. The findings indicate that concrete objects provided a meaningful starting point for vocabulary learning by enabling students to recognize familiar objects before connecting them with corresponding English words. Students demonstrated their learning through various verbal and non-verbal responses, including looking, pointing, touching, selecting objects, imitating pronunciation, and attempting to produce target words. Teacher scaffolding through modeling, repetition, gestures, prompting, and feedback further supported the connection between concrete objects and English vocabulary. The findings suggest that vocabulary learning for young learners with intellectual disability should be understood as a gradual and multimodal process rather than solely through immediate verbal production. Concrete objects can function as learning anchors that help learners move from concrete experience toward English word recognition and emerging production.
