Abstract

The particular study aimed to determine the effectiveness of achievement motivation training (AMT) in increasing the achievement motivation of junior high school students. The study used an interrupted time-series design which conducted on an intact group consisting of eight subjects. Data measurements carried out three times in the pre-test and post-test conditions with six forms of achievement motivation scale. The AMT intervention in the psychoeducation frame consists of two strategies, namely achievement thinking and action strategies which are carried out in 12 sessions. The results showed that there is a difference between achievement motivation scores before and after AMT interventions.

Abstract

A happy individual tends to produce positive things in life in terms of social self; study; and career aspects. This research is to find out the effectiveness of adventure based counseling (ABC) program to improve happiness in students. This research was conducted using experimental design with one group pretest-posttest model. The subject of this research was eleven students in the third semester of study program of guidance and counseling, Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD) who were selected using purposive sampling technique. The pretest and posttest data was collected using a scale which was developed based on Seligman theory. The data was analyzed by non-parametric data analysis of Wilcoxon test. The results show that ABC program does not significantly influence happiness in students, but it gives influence to the aspect of meaningfulness and achievement.

Abstract

This research aimed to find: (1) the difficulties possibly faced by subjects in managing personal construct when filling Tschudi ABC format; (2) key personal construct recognized by subjects in their present and desired positions; (3) the results of subjects’ learning culture internalization to the implementation of Tschudi ABC Model. This study used a qualitative approach with the type of Classroom Action Research, the empirical phenomenological variant. The observed subjects were determined by purposive sampling, taken from the students of Multicultural Counseling class. The research informants were determined through snowballing. The data collection was conducted via a medium participatory observation and in-depth interview. The individual analysis was employed in the form of dynamic analysis of the research subjects’ individual personality. This research found that: (1) there was a difficulty in the form of contradiction and disparity in personal construct management. According to the subjects, compromise and synchronization of thoughts and attitudes were effective in settling the self-denial and gap; (2) The tendency of the change of subjects’ key personal construct was intentional accompanied by discursive awareness versus withdrawal and stagnant. There was a change of key personal construct to the more productive and non-productive orientation; (3) The function of “good news” versus “bad news” was very strong in the internalization of subjects’ learning culture. Providing “good news” (positive feedback) gave rise to more non-formal and affective internalization of learning culture with the purpose stated consciously and obviously, as well as concrete, clear, decisive, and straightforward plans.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to identify the influence of intelligence and social self interest on the adaptation skill of the department of guidance and counseling students. This quantitative research used the multiple regression analysis. It used purposive total sampling technique, with sample of 38 students of Department of Guidance and Counseling, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (ULM). The results show that intelligence and social self interest of the department of guidance and counseling students simultaneously influence the adaptation skill of 35.9%, while the remaining 64.1% is influenced by other factors.

Abstract

This research and development aims to develop a learning guidance and counseling program based on social and emotional learning (SEL) in senior high school, and find out the feasibility of the learning guidance and counseling program based on SEL. Approach used in this research was research and development. The development procedure refers to the procedure by Borg & Gall. The two subject groups of program validation in this research and development were two expert validators who were competent in the learning guidance and counseling program and the school counselor group. Data collection instruments used were expert validation questionnaire; practitioner validation questionnaire; and focus group discussion (FGD) guidelines. The data analysis technique used was a quantitative descriptive analysis technique using categorization. The expert validation test obtained a score of 91.50 (good category) and the practitioner test obtained a score of 83.05 (good category). Based on the results of expert validation and practitioner test, learning guidance and counseling program based on SEL is feasible to be implemented.

Abstract

Self-esteem is an important element for students to support their development optimally. However, students performed various problems related to the students’ self-esteem level. For instance, students posted their activities and problems on social media. One variable affected self-esteem was students’ emotional control. This study aimed to identify the effect of emotional control on students’ self-esteem. This study involved 612 students as sample who were randomly selected in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. Data analysis technique in this research was regression analysis. Results indicated that there was a significant effect of emotional control on students’ self-esteem. This study recommended a counseling service to increase students’ self-esteem by involving emotional control variable.

Abstract

This research aims at describing the roles of guidance and counseling in strengthening character education of the students of Mitra Industri MM2100 Vocational High School, Cikarang, Bekasi, West Java. It used qualitative approach with case study design, in which the data was collected through interview and observation. The main informants were: coordinator of Mitra Industri Cikarang Foundation; principal; assistant principal of academic affairs and curriculum; dean of students; school counselor; homeroom teacher; and students of Mitra Industri MM2100 Vocational High School. The data was analyzed by category and reduction in accordance with the focus of the research. The results of the research show that guidance and counseling has important roles in strengthening the character education. guidance and counseling has active roles in the selection process; preventing deviant behaviors; and eradication of deviant behaviors in students. These roles are conducted collaboratively with the dean of students; homeroom teacher; parents; and students. The success of character education program in Vocational High School is determined by the establishment of the “golden triangle of communication” which is the common awareness and commitment between: school; parents; and students. In addition, daily and weekly evaluation and supervision allows the school, particularly guidance and counseling teacher to identify, anticipate and respond to the indication of behavior and character issues of the students in an appropriate manner. From the results of the research, the board of Vocational High School is recommended to develop a character education system collaboratively with school counselor; dean of students; parents; and students.

Abstract

This research aimed to evaluate the implementation of individual counseling results at Muhammadiyah 3 Yogyakarta Senior High School. Evaluation model used was gap (discrepancy evaluation model). In addition, population in this research was students who had attended individual counseling. Furthermore, research samples were 104 students, obtained by using proportionate stratified random sampling technique. Data collection used was individual counseling scale. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics. Findings indicated that the majority of individual counseling results was in good criteria.

Abstract

Adolescence is a crucial phase of life where individuals need to choose a particular career. In choosing a career, many individuals experience problems. This study aims to: (1) create an interactive multimedia product containing career information to improve vocational high school students’ career maturity; (2) reveal the quality of interactive multimedia containing career information in improving vocational high school students’ career; and (3) understand the effectiveness of interactive multimedia containing career information in improving vocational high school students’ career maturity. This research development referred to Borg & Gall’s development research. In the feasibility stage, data collection was conducted by distributing multimedia feasibility test questionnaires to media experts and material experts; assessment questionnaires to students; and career maturity scale. Results indicated that the use of interactive multimedia containing career information effectively increased vocational high school students’ career maturity.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify whether there are differences in self-regulation of emotion skills of male and female students. This study is a comparative study with a sample of 796 students (452 males, 344 females). The sample selection is taken using simple random sampling technique. The instrument used is the scale of self-regulation of emotion. Data analysis used to identify differences in self-regulation of emotion skills of male and female students is independent samples test. The findings of the study indicate that there is a significant difference between the self-regulation of emotion skills of male and female students. This study recommends counseling service to improve self-regulation of emotion skills.
