Abstract

Limited resources force every individual to make choices in meeting their needs and wants. The ability to distinguish between needs and wants is an important part of economic and financial literacy that should be introduced from an early age. This Community Service (PkM) activity aims to improve the understanding and ability of children at the CIJ Waibalun Dormitory to differentiate between needs and wants and to set priorities in spending their pocket money. The activity was carried out using a participatory, contextual, and educational approach through delivering materials, discussions, educational games, simulations, case studies, decision-making exercises, pre-tests, post-tests, and reflections. There were 20 female participants in age groups of 15, 17, and 20 years. Based on simulation data, the average participant score increased from 54.2 on the pre-test to 83.8 on the post-test, an increase of 29.6 points or 54.6% compared to the average score. At the beginning, 80% of participants were in the very good category and 20% in the good category. These results show that learning that connects economic concepts with real-life experiences can help participants understand scarcity, choices, needs and wants, setting priorities, and managing pocket money. The activities were also aimed at developing frugal, disciplined, and responsible behavior in using resources. The sustainability of the program requires regular habits like tracking expenses, setting priorities, and saving

Abstract

Waste, particularly plastic waste, remains one of the environmental challenges that has not yet been fully addressed in Indonesia, including in elementary schools located in rural areas. This article discusses the implementation of an Ecotheology-based program involving the creation of a recycling garden at SDN 046420 Singa, Singa Village, as an effort to reuse plastic waste and used materials by transforming them into functional elements while improving the appearance of the school environment. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach using a participatory community service method, in which the authors were directly involved in the entire series of activities, including planning, socialization with the school, field implementation, and final evaluation. Data were collected through participatory observation, documentation, and direct communication with school representatives and students. The results indicate that the recycling garden was successfully created by utilizing bamboo as garden borders and used materials as decorative elements, with students actively involved throughout the process. The activity not only helped reduce scattered waste in the school environment but also fostered students' environmental awareness and concern from an early age. From an ecotheological perspective, this activity can be understood as a manifestation of human responsibility to care for God's creation through simple and sustainable actions.

Abstract

Limited access to reading materials and the absence of literacy spaces close to children's residential environments remain challenges in supporting children's reading activities. This condition was also identified in Dapur Arang, Tanjung Sari Village, Belakang Padang District, highlighting the need for an alternative literacy space that children can access outside the school environment. This community service program aimed to implement a community-based reading corner at Mangrove Posyandu as a space that provides access to reading materials while supporting children's engagement in literacy activities. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, with data collected through interviews, observation, and documentation. The program consisted of four stages: identifying conditions and needs, planning and organizing the reading corner, implementation and utilization, and evaluation and sustainability strengthening. The program resulted in the establishment of a reading corner containing more than 100 books, including fairy tales, novels, history, and educational books. During its initial utilization, approximately 5–7 children showed positive responses by selecting books, reading, gathering, and interacting in the reading space. Posyandu members, the neighborhood leader, parents, and local residents were also involved in supporting the program's continued management. These findings indicate that the reading corner not only provides a physical literacy facility but also creates opportunities for children's literacy engagement and encourages community participation in sustaining the program.

Abstract

Student entrepreneurship is an important strategy for encouraging innovation in local food products. This study aims to describe the product innovation process and business development strategy of MorSum (Moringa Dimsum), a culinary product combining conventional dimsum with Moringa oleifera leaves. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study method, using Schumpeter's Theory of Entrepreneurial Innovation and the Marketing Mix (4P) Theory as the analytical framework. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 15 informants who were MorSum consumers, selected using purposive sampling, and analyzed using thematic analysis. The results show that the experimental process of combining Moringa leaves with dimsum successfully created a product with a taste well received by consumers, consistent with Schumpeter's concept of new combinations. In terms of the marketing mix, product and price were considered appropriate by consumers, while distribution and promotion remain limited to certain events and informal networks. High consumer loyalty and willingness to recommend the product indicate strong potential for word-of-mouth marketing. The main obstacle faced by the team was limited production time due to academic commitments. This study offers practical implications for developing local food-based culinary businesses among students, particularly in product diversification, packaging, distribution, and digital promotion.

Abstract

Community empowerment through the Community Service Program (KKN) of UINSU in Ndokum Siroga Village was implemented as an effort to contribute to community development through education, economic, social, and environmental activities. This program aimed to describe the implementation and results of community empowerment activities carried out by UINSU students during the KKN program. The activity was conducted for one month, from July 28 to August 28, 2026, involving 30 students and community members as program partners. The study used a descriptive qualitative approach with participatory methods. Data were obtained through observation, interviews, and documentation of the activities. The results showed that the education program was implemented through teaching and student mentoring at SMP Negeri 2 Simpang Empat, Madrasah Ibtidaiyah An-Nahwa, and RA Al-Mukhlisin, as well as seminars and student development activities. In the economic sector, students assisted micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in creating and utilizing QRIS for digital payments. Social activities included communal work, religious activities, joint exercise, and community activities. Environmental activities included ecoprint and the provision of categorized waste bins for organic, non-organic, and paper waste. These activities demonstrate that KKN can serve as a platform for students to apply knowledge while supporting community participation and empowerment.

Abstract

Transactions among MSME operators in Timbang Lawan Village are still dominated by cash payments, while the use of digital payments via the Indonesian Standard Quick Response Code (QRIS) still needs to be improved. This situation highlights the need for awareness-raising and guidance so that MSME operators can understand and utilize QRIS in their business activities. This initiative aims to promote and support the implementation of QRIS as a digital payment alternative for MSME operators in Timbang Lawan Village. A descriptive qualitative method was employed, with data collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The initiative was carried out through awareness campaigns, assistance with QRIS registration, hands-on training, and transaction simulations. The results of the study indicate that outreach and guidance helped MSME operators understand the benefits and how to use QRIS as a cashless payment alternative. The implementation of QRIS contributed to promoting payment digitization among MSMEs in Timbang Lawan Village, although challenges remain in the form of varying levels of digital literacy and internet connectivity. Therefore, continued education and guidance are necessary to ensure that QRIS can be used more easily and sustainably.

Abstract

Digital transformation has encouraged micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to adopt digital payment systems to support more practical and efficient financial transactions. However, the implementation of QRIS among MSMEs in rural areas still requires strengthening of digital literacy and practical skills. This community service activity aimed to improve MSME actors’ understanding and skills in implementing QRIS as a digital payment method and to support more efficient transaction management in Ndokum Siroga Village, Karo Regency. The activity used a participatory community service approach consisting of initial identification, joint planning, QRIS socialization, demonstration, direct practice, transaction assistance, and evaluation. The results showed that the participants gained a better understanding of the function and use of QRIS, including the procedures for receiving digital payments and checking incoming transactions. The activity also provided practical experience in utilizing transaction history as supporting information for recording business receipts. The implementation of QRIS can therefore support more practical payment processes while contributing to improved digital literacy and more organized transaction management among MSMEs. Continued assistance is recommended to strengthen independent QRIS use, improve digital transaction security awareness, and encourage the integration of digital payment records into simple financial management practices.

Abstract

Posyandu is a form of community-based health service that functions to improve maternal and child health, particularly by monitoring the growth and development of children under five. These activities also serve as a platform for community empowerment by involving local volunteers (cadres) and community members in the delivery of health services. In Rumah Sumbul Village, the Student Community Service (KKN) program was implemented through support for Posyandu activities, demonstrating student participation in bolstering community health services. This support involved assisting cadres with participant registration, weighing toddlers, measuring height or length, recording data, and guiding community members during the event. The initiative aimed to streamline Posyandu operations while simultaneously increasing student and community participation in safeguarding maternal and child health. The results indicate that the support provided by KKN students helped cadres manage Posyandu services, leading to more orderly and efficient program execution. Furthermore, Posyandu plays a vital role in monitoring toddler growth as a preventive measure against stunting. Thus, the support provided by KKN students represents a form of participation in community empowerment by facilitating the delivery of health services in Rumah Sumbul Village.

Abstract

This community service initiative aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of the "Perempuan Hebat HIMABGUS" group in implementing simple hydroponic cultivation to strengthen household food security and the local economy. Conducted in Samarinda, East Kalimantan, the project employed a participatory-educational approach comprising several stages: hydroponics education, installation setup, seedling propagation, transplanting seedlings into Nutrient Film Technique (NFT) systems, plant maintenance, and harvesting. Evaluation was carried out through pre- and post-session questionnaires, observation of practical activities, and ongoing guidance throughout the cultivation process. The results indicate an improvement in participants' understanding of the benefits of hydroponics, the utilization of limited space, the use of growing media and nutrients, and the stages of hydroponic vegetable cultivation. Participants also gained hands-on experience in sowing water spinach and bok choy seeds, transplanting seedlings, managing nutrient flow, and recognizing the potential of the harvest as a source of healthy food for their families. The initiative demonstrates that hydroponics serves as a simple, practical tool for women's empowerment with the potential to be developed into a productive household activity. Program sustainability requires continued support through ongoing guidance, the delegation of maintenance tasks, harvest record-keeping, and the development of simple marketing networks.
