Abstract

The dichotomy between science and religion is an epistemological issue that continues to characterise modern education systems, including those in the Muslim world. The influence of a secular Western educational paradigm has encouraged a separation between empirical knowledge and spiritual–religious values, resulting in a moral crisis and a reduction in the meaning of education. This article aims to analyse the concept of integrating science and religion within the paradigm of Islamic educational philosophy as an effort to develop a holistic and balanced educational system. This study employs a qualitative approach, using library research and content analysis of relevant primary and secondary sources drawn from both classical Islamic intellectual traditions and contemporary thought. The findings indicate that Islamic educational philosophy inherently rejects the dichotomy of knowledge and affirms the unity of the sources of knowledge based on the principle of tawḥīd. The integration of science and religion in Islamic education harmoniously combines reason, revelation, and empirical experience, and directs knowledge towards the formation of individuals who are knowledgeable, morally upright, and socially responsible. Theoretically, this research contributes to strengthening an integrative epistemology of Islamic education, while practically it provides a conceptual foundation for the development of curricula, educational policies, and value-oriented learning practices. This study affirms the relevance of Islamic educational philosophy in addressing global educational challenges in the modern

Abstract

This study examines the ideological transformation of Muhammadiyah in its second century by highlighting the synthesis between tradition, modernity, and the spirit of Progressive Islam (Islam Berkemajuan). As a modernist Islamic movement established in the early 20th century, Muhammadiyah continues to negotiate its ideological identity within the context of global social, political, and epistemological changes. The purpose of this research is to reveal how Muhammadiyah constructs an ideological reconstruction that is able to integrate the normative values of Islam with modern rationality and a commitment to universal humanity. This study employs a library research method with a content analysis approach using primary sources such as the Matan Keyakinan dan Cita-Cita Hidup Muhammadiyah (MKCH), the Pedoman Hidup Islami Warga Muhammadiyah (PHIWM), and contemporary Muhammadiyah thinkers’ works. The analysis shows that Muhammadiyah’s ideology has shifted from theological purification toward an integrative ideological formation, in which Progressive Islam serves as an adaptive paradigm to address the challenges of modernity. Theoretically, this research contributes to the development of modern Islamic epistemology by emphasizing the importance of synthesizing revelation, reason, and social reality. Practically, the findings recommend revitalizing Muhammadiyah’s role as a global agent of change rooted in Islamic values while remaining open to scientific advancement and universal humanistic principles. Thus, the ideological transformation of Muhammadiyah in its second century becomes a paradigmatic model of progressive Islam relevant to modern civilization.

Abstract

The rapid development of globalization and digitalization has intensified competition in the labor market, requiring human resources (HR) who are not only technically competent but also equipped with strong soft skills. This study aims to analyze effective strategies for developing human resources through the strengthening of soft skills in educational institutions and organizational settings. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, the research is based on a comprehensive literature review of books, national and international journal articles, research reports, and relevant policy documents related to human resource development. Data were analyzed using content analysis to identify key themes, patterns, and strategic models of soft skill development, while source triangulation was applied to enhance the credibility and validity of the findings. The results indicate that communication, teamwork, problem solving, adaptability, resilience, and leadership are the most critical soft skills required across various sectors and job levels. The study also reveals that effective soft skill development requires integrated and sustainable strategies, including experiential training, continuous coaching and mentoring, project-based learning, integration of soft skills into formal curricula and employee onboarding programs, the reinforcement of supportive organizational culture, and the use of microlearning through digital learning pathways. Furthermore, comprehensive monitoring and evaluation mechanisms such as pre-post assessments, 360-degree feedback, performance indicators, and portfolio-based evaluation are essential to ensure measurable behavioral change and performance improvement. Despite challenges such as resistance to change, limited resources, and measurement difficulties, adaptive mitigation strategies can enhance implementation effectiveness. This study concludes that positioning soft skills as core competencies within long-term human resource development strategies is crucial for improving workforce readiness, organizational performance, and sustainability in an increasingly dynamic and uncertain work environment.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relative contribution between the Islamic school environment and the role of peers on students' religious moderation attitudes at MI Muhammadiyah 1 Probolinggo City. Using a quantitative approach with a multiple linear regression design, this study involved all sixth grade students as respondents. The results of the regression test showed that both variables had a significant effect on students' religious moderation attitudes. The Islamic school environment had a B coefficient of 0.510 (p < 0.001) and the role of peers had a B coefficient of 0.240 (p = 0.004). The F test showed that the overall regression model was significant with an F value of 55.657 (p < 0.001), while the R Square value of 0.547 indicated that this model could explain approximately 54.7% of the variation in religious moderation attitudes. These results confirm that the Islamic school environment and the role of peers significantly influence students' religious moderation attitudes. This research provides important insights for educational institutions to create an environment that supports the development of religious moderation attitudes by prioritizing the values of tolerance and inclusivity in every aspect of school life.

Abstract

Contemporary education faces a growing crisis of value orientation due to the dominance of utilitarian and technocratic paradigms that prioritize cognitive achievement while marginalizing moral and spiritual dimensions. This study aims to formulate a conceptual framework of religious humanism in education through a critical dialogue between Islamic and Western philosophies of education. Using a qualitative approach with a critical-dialogical literature review (integrative review), this study analyzes selected classical and contemporary scholarly works from both traditions. The findings indicate that Western educational humanism emphasizes rational autonomy, critical thinking, and social justice, yet often neglects transcendental aspects of human development. Conversely, Islamic educational philosophy views humans as rational and spiritual beings, with education oriented toward the formation of morally grounded and civilized individuals (insān ādabī). This study argues that the dichotomy between secular humanism and religious education is artificial and can be transcended through a dialogical synthesis. It concludes that religious humanism offers a holistic educational paradigm integrating rationality, ethics, and spirituality, making it relevant for addressing contemporary educational challenges.

Abstract

The Jama’ah Muhammadiyah Movement and Jama’ah-based Da’wah represent an institutional manifestation of Islamic reform (tajdid) that seeks to integrate spiritual, rational, and social praxis dimensions. This study is motivated by the need to understand how Muhammadiyah develops a model of collective da’wah that is not merely normative or moralistic, but also functions as an instrument of social transformation within the context of modern society. The purpose of this study is to analyze the theological construction, social strategies, and epistemological implications of the Jama’ah Muhammadiyah Movement as a model of community-based da’wah. This study employs a library research approach using content analysis to examine religious texts, official Muhammadiyah documents, and the works of key Muhammadiyah figures. The findings indicate that Jama’ah-based da’wah in Muhammadiyah is grounded in the principle of amar ma‘ruf nahi munkar, contextualized through the spirit of tajdid and modern rationality. Da’wah is conceptualized not only as a religious activity but also as a transformative social process that encompasses the fields of education, health, economy, and humanitarian engagement. Theoretically, this study contributes to the development of the epistemology of modern Islamic da’wah based on the jama’ah (collective) paradigm. Practically, it offers a model of progressive da’wah and social empowerment that is applicable and potentially replicable in a global context. These findings affirm Muhammadiyah’s relevance as a representation of moderate Islam oriented toward the formation of khairu ummah and the advancement of a just and universal civilization.

Abstract

This study aims to critically examine the dominance of algorithm-based education in the contemporary digital era and to reconstruct Islamic educational philosophy as a critical framework against secular digital humanism. The phenomenon addressed in this research is the increasing reliance on algorithms, artificial intelligence, and data-driven systems in education, which tend to reduce human beings to functional and measurable subjects while positioning education as a technical process oriented toward efficiency and performance. Such conditions marginalize the spiritual, moral, and existential dimensions of education. This study employs a qualitative philosophical approach using critical-conceptual analysis, drawing upon classical and contemporary sources in Islamic educational philosophy and digital education studies. The analysis focuses on the epistemological and ontological assumptions underlying secular digital humanism and contrasts them with key concepts in Islamic educational thought, such as tazkiyat al-nafs (purification of the soul), ta’dīb (formation of adab), and the ideal of insān kāmil. The findings reveal that Islamic educational philosophy functions not merely as a complementary value system but as a fundamental philosophical critique that challenges the reductionist logic of algorithmic education. This study further demonstrates that Islamic philosophy reorients educational goals by subordinating technology and algorithms to transcendental purposes centered on soul formation and moral integrity. The main contribution of this research lies in offering a humanistic–transcendental framework that enriches global discussions on digital education by integrating spiritual and ethical dimensions that are largely absent from mainstream secular approaches.

Abstract

Islamic educational institutions in Indonesia are facing increasing challenges in maintaining institutional sustainability due to heavy reliance on conventional funding sources and the weak integration of entrepreneurial management systems. This situation calls for leadership transformation that goes beyond academic administration and normative values toward a more strategic response to economic sustainability. This study aims to analyze how leadership transformation in Islamic educational institutions contributes to the development of entrepreneurial management as a strategy for economic self-reliance. The research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design conducted at Mambaul Ulum Al-Murtadlo Islamic Boarding School in Probolinggo Regency. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, limited participatory observation, and document analysis, and analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive data analysis model. The findings reveal that leadership transformation has shifted leaders’ orientations from routine administrative roles to visionary and strategic leadership, resulting in more systematic, accountable, and institutionally integrated entrepreneurial management. Moreover, entrepreneurship was not found to undermine Islamic values; instead, it strengthened the moral legitimacy of economic practices within the institution. The study implies that transformative leadership is a crucial foundation for strengthening economic independence and ensuring the long-term sustainability of Islamic educational institutions.
