Abstract

Vaccination plays a role in the formation of specific immunity against certain antigens. Stressful conditions in animals can potentially influence post-vaccination immune responses. To be able to monitor this condition, it can be seen using stress indicators in poultry, namely the heterophil-lymphocyte ratio (H/L) value. This research was conducted to determine the value of the heterophil-lymphocyte ratio (H/L) in laying hens vaccinated with ND-IB. The samples used were 10 chicken blood samples taken from 40 chickens randomly during the pre-vaccination period; one week, two weeks, and three weeks post-vaccination. The research was preceded by calculating total leukocytes and leukocyte differential, followed by calculating the heterophil-lymphocyte (H/L) ratio value from the results obtained, then analyzed using the SPSS program. The results of this research show that livestock experienced mild stress in the first week post-vaccination which is thought to have occurred due to the handling carried out. A significant increase in the heterophil-lymphocyte ratio (H/L) value occurred in the second week post-vaccination, this occurred due to the influence of environmental factors in the form of bacterial infections. In the third week post-vaccination, livestock no longer experience stress. Further research needs to be carried out using negative controls to determine the exact cause of the increase in the heterophil-lymphocyte (H/L) ratio.

Abstract

Sulawesi island is the largest island in the Wallace area which can represent biodiversity in the form of endemic animals, one of these animals is the Moor Macaques (Macaca maura). Moor macaques are protected animals in Indonesia and are endangered animals. The rarity of this spesies will result in increasingly scarce information that can be obtained about this species, so research on skull morphometry is urgently needed. The aim of this research is to obtain information and scientific data about the skull morphometry of moor macaques. This study used 3 moor macaques skulls which were measured in 24 measurement positions using digital calipers. Skull volume data was collected by placing the skull in a measuring cup filled with water. The results of this study obtain bimaxillary breadth 43,86 mm; greatest length of skull 148,61 mm; bizygomatic breadth 96,60 mm; biauricular breadth 76,64 mm; cranial breadth 69,39 mm; basal length of skull 102,34 mm; nasion-basion length 84,14 mm; basibregmatic height 65,57 mm; length of maxillar tooth row 56,95 mm; length of mandible 103,40 mm; bicondylar breadth of mandible 74,91 mm; biorbital breadth 73,54 mm; bimalar breadth 90,92 mm; breadth of orbits 53,74 mm; postorbital breadth 47,28 mm; supramaxillary breadth 33,87 mm; bicanine breadth 41,02 mm; incisor breadth 26,25 mm; bimolar breadth 40,84 mm; length of maxillary molar tooth row 25,00 mm; facial height 40,39 mm; postostral length 95,77 mm; rostral length 65,21 mm; facial length 50,70 mm; and the volume of skull I is 150 ml, skull II 100 ml, and skul III is 100 ml. Based on the results, it can be concluded that all of the skull is of a male monkey. It is necessary to carry out further research on moor macaques considering that moor macaques are endangered animals and also the scarcity of scientific data about these monkeys.

Abstract

Beringkit Animal Market is one of the largest animal markets in Bali. Which is a place for livestock transactions, especially bali cattle calves, which are usually used as breeds. Bali cattle calves need digestive tract microbes such as bacteria to carry out the digestives process. Klebsiella spp. is a type of coliform bacteria that plays a significant role in the digestive system of bali cattle. This study aimed to determine the presence of Klebsiella spp. and antibiotic resistance patterns in bali cattle marketed at Beringkit Livestock Market. The samples used were rectal swabs from 50 bali cattle. First, swab samples were isolated and identified, starting with isolation on Eosin Methlyne Blue Agar (EMBA), followed by colony characterization and biochemical tests such as Indole Metil Voges Proskauer Citrate (IMViC). Then, the identified Klebsiella spp. colonies were tested for antibiotic resistance patterns using 8 antibiotic discs, including bacitracin, ampicillin, kanamycin, streptomycin, doxycycline, erythromycin, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, and chloramphenicol. The method of examination used the Kirby Bauer antibiotic disc diffusion method. The prevalence of Klebsiella spp. was found to be 6% among 50 cattle at Beringkit Livestock Market. The resistance pattern showed that sample no. 12 was resistant to bacitracin, ampicillin, streptomycin, doxycycline, and erythromycin; intermediate to kanamycin; and sensitive to sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim and chloramphenicol. Sample no. 33 was resistant to bacitracin, ampicillin, streptomycin, doxycycline, and erythromycin; intermediate to kanamycin; and sensitive to sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim and chloramphenicol. Sample no. 44 was resistant to bacitracin, ampicillin, streptomycin, erythromycin, and chloramphenicol; intermediate to kanamycin, sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim; and sensitive to doxycyclin. Sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim and kanamycin are still suitable for use due to a sensitivity rate of 66% in three Klebsiella spp. samples. However, antibiotics such as bacitrasin, ampicillin, streptomycin, doxycycline, erythromycin, and chloramphenicol should be discontinued due to high resistance rates, and further research is needed to find effective and suitable antibiotics for managing Klebsiella spp. infections.

Abstract

One of the health problems that occurs in Etawa crossbreed (PE) goat farms as dairy goats is subclinical mastitis. Subclinical mastitis is potential mastitis that does not show clinical symptoms in the udder. In an effort to support the health of PE goats as dairy livestock, it is necessary to carry out routine health checks, one of which is blood tests such as hemoglobin tests. This study aims to determine the hemoglobin value of Etawa crossbreed goats (PE) suffering from subclinical mastitis. Blood samples were taken after the CMT test on goats that were positive for subclinical mastitis. After that, a blood sample was taken from the jugular vein area using needle blood colection with the help of vacuntainer holder and put in coolbox. The blood samples that have been taken are then examined using a Hematology Analyzer RT 7600. The data obtained is then analyzed descriptively regarding hemoglobin values. The research results showed that hemoglobin in PE goats showed values within the normal range, namely 8.46 ± 0.85 g/dL with a range of 7.4 – 9.6 g/dL. To support better results, farmers need to maintain the health of their livestock by routinely carrying out livestock checks, including blood tests.

Abstract

Acne vulgaris, or acne, was a common skin problem that occurred in adolescents and young adults, and had a significant psychological impact, especially on individual self-confidence. The high prevalence of this issue, along with factors such as dietary patterns, sleep habits, and coffee consumption, led to a need for deeper understanding of its relationship with skin conditions. This study aimed to evaluate the association between coffee consumption and sleep quality with the occurrence of acne vulgaris. The research method used a quantitative approach with a survey design and descriptive correlational method in a cross-sectional research approach. The instruments included a coffee consumption questionnaire with a Cronbach’s alpha value of 0.707 and a PSQI (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index) questionnaire with a Cronbach’s alpha value of 0.888. The study sample consisted of students from Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia Kampus Sumedang who experienced acne problems, frequently consumed coffee, and had insufficient sleep hours. Data collection was conducted through questionnaires that covered information about coffee consumption patterns and types of coffee consumed, as well as sleep patterns. The research results indicated that there was no significant relationship between coffee consumption and the occurrence of acne vulgaris, with a p-value of 0.106 (>0.05). However, there was a significant association between sleep quality and the occurrence of acne vulgaris, with a p-value less than 0.001. The conclusion from this study was that coffee did not directly impact the growth of acne, but poor sleep quality could directly affect acne occurrence. Further research is expected to explore other factors that may cause acne vulgaris.

Abstract

Bali cattle are native Indonesian germplasm originating from the island of Bali, and are widely kept by farmers due to their many advantages. Growth can be assessed as an increase in height, length, weight, and body circumference, which occurs in young cattle. This study aims to determine the growth rate of body circumference of male Balinese cattle during fattening and to describe the growth of muscle and fat in the cattle's body. A total of 20 male Balinese cows aged 11-22 months were used as research samples. Data were collected using saturated sampling technique, namely measuring the body circumference of fattened male Balinese cattle in Abdi Pertiwi Livestock Farmer Group, Gerokgak, Buleleng. The data obtained were analyzed with power regression analysis to determine the growth rate of body size of Balinese cattle. The results of power regression analysis showed that the overall correlation coefficient was very significant (p<0.05) in each size of front neck circumference, back neck circumference, chest circumference and hip circumference of male Balinese cattle. Each dimension of body circumference has a different growth rate. Based on these results, it can be concluded that there are differences in the growth rate of body circumference of male Balinese cattle during fattening. The growth rate of body circumference of male balinese cattle shows that the back neck circumference and front neck circumference have higher growth potential than hip circumference and chest circumference.

Abstract

A common health problem in teenagers is anemia. The need for food intake is very important for the adolescent body because it is for development and growth, and to avoid metabolic disorders. The aim of this study was to determine the description of eating frequency and body mass index in anemia in adolescent girls. This research method uses a descriptive quantitative method, namely by distributing questionnaires, so that you can see a picture of eating frequency based on the results of the questionnaire. To find out body mass index, use body weight in kilograms and height in meters (kg/m²) to calculate it. The results of the research showed that the frequency of eating among young women from 67 respondents showed that the percentage was very good, only 1 respondent (1.4%) and the lowest percentage was not good, 48 respondents (71.6%). For the research results, body mass index had the highest presentation, namely normal, 25 respondents (37.3%). From the results of research at SMPN 3 Sumedang class VII, most of them had a normal body mass index, but the frequency of eating very well was very low. Therefore, it is hoped that efforts can be made to prevent anemia by improving diet.

Abstract

The prevalence of dyspepsia in Indonesia is still very high, ranking third, with the highest number of dyspepsia sufferers reaching 40-50%, and occurs at various ages. So to this day, the incidence of dyspepsia is still one of the biggest disease problems in Indonesia. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between eating frequency and the incidence of dyspepsia in adolescents who have a history of dyspepsia in the work area of the South Sumedang health center. This research method uses a quantitative method with a descriptive correlation design approach using Rank Spearman, namely by distributing questionnaires to get an idea of the frequency of eating and the incidence of dyspepsia based on the results of the questionnaire. The population and samples taken were 43 teenagers who had a history of dyspepsia in the work area of the South Sumedang health center. The results of the study showed that most of the frequency of eating in teenagers was poor, with 30 respondents with a percentage of (69.76%) and the results of the incidence of dyspepsia showed that teenagers who had a history of dyspepsia were mostly in the severe dyspepsia category, 30 respondents with a percentage of ( 69.76%). The results of research in the work area of the South Sumedang Community Health Center are that most teenagers have a poor eating frequency which results in dyspepsia incidents, therefore it is hoped that we can prevent recurrent dyspepsia incidents by maintaining eating frequency.
