Abstract

Situational awareness constitutes the cognitive foundation of effective bridge watchkeeping, yet the extent to which simulator-based training programs at Indonesian maritime academies successfully develop this foundational competency among Nautika cadets has not been empirically established. This study assesses bridge watchkeeping situational awareness competency development among deck cadets at Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Pelayaran (STIP) Jakarta through a mixed-methods design combining pre- and post-simulation assessment with cadet self-assessment surveys and lecturer focus group discussions. Data were collected between April 2025 and April 2026 from 86 Nautika cadets across two academic year cohorts and nine simulator training lecturers. Thematic analysis, cross-group comparison, and narrative synthesis were applied to the qualitative data alongside quantitative competency gain analysis. Findings reveal statistically significant situational awareness competency gains following simulation training across all three Endsley model levels—perception, comprehension, and projection—with comprehension and projection dimensions showing larger absolute gains than perception, and with cadet self-assessment substantially underestimating actual competency gain relative to objective assessment results. Lecturer focus group data identified scenario complexity calibration and debrief quality as the dominant instructional factors mediating simulation training effectiveness. The study contributes an empirical baseline of simulator-based SA competency development specific to STIP Jakarta and provides evidence-based recommendations for simulation curriculum enhancement.

Abstract

Competency-based human resource management in seafarer crewing requires that certification attainment, as standardized through the STCW Convention, translate into deployment decisions genuinely reflecting verified operational competency rather than administrative compliance alone. This study investigates the gap between STCW competency certification and actual competency-based crewing and manning allocation decisions within Indonesian shipping companies. Employing a qualitative design grounded in competency-based human resource management theory and stakeholder theory, the study conducted focus group discussions and semi-structured interviews with twenty-three participants drawn from crewing managers, fleet superintendents, and seafarer welfare association representatives. Data were collected between April 2025 and April 2026. Thematic analysis, cross-group comparison, and narrative synthesis were applied. Findings reveal a dominant certificate-over-competency deployment logic in which crewing decisions are driven primarily by STCW certificate availability and minimum manning schedule compliance rather than by genuine operational competency assessment. Three reinforcing organizational mechanisms sustain this logic: the absence of company-level competency verification infrastructure beyond certificate checking, commercial schedule pressure overriding competency-optimal crewing decisions, and the structural inaccessibility of meaningful seafarer performance history within existing crewing management information systems. The study contributes an organizational diagnosis of the certification-competency gap within Indonesian maritime crewing practice and provides actionable recommendations for company-level and regulatory reform.

Abstract

Indonesian shipping companies face mounting pressure to align their fleet management strategies with the International Maritime Organization's 2023 Revised GHG Strategy, yet the organizational readiness and strategic capability through which these companies are actually responding to decarbonization imperatives remain empirically underexamined. This study investigates green fleet management strategy and operational sustainability readiness among Indonesian shipping companies through a qualitative stakeholder analysis involving fleet managers, Designated Persons Ashore, and maritime management graduates. Data were collected through semi-structured focus group discussions and interviews with twenty-four participants between April 2025 and April 2026. Thematic analysis, cross-group comparison, and narrative synthesis were applied. Findings reveal three dominant strategic orientations—compliance-reactive, compliance-proactive, and sustainability-integrated—distributed unevenly across company size and fleet type segments, with the majority of participants' companies occupying the compliance-reactive orientation. Inter-departmental coordination deficits and the absence of dedicated sustainability management functions within most company organizational structures constitute the primary organizational barriers to advancing toward sustainability-integrated fleet management. The study contributes a stakeholder-grounded typology of green fleet management strategic orientation within the Indonesian shipping sector and provides actionable recommendations for company governance reform and STIP Jakarta's maritime management curriculum development.

Abstract

Distress, urgency, and safety communication sequences constitute the highest-stakes domain within the Standard Marine Communication Phrases, demanding the most precise phraseological accuracy and procedural correctness under conditions of maximum operational pressure, yet the degree to which SMCP distress communication training at Indonesian maritime academies produces the proficiency level these stakes require has not been empirically assessed through performance-based measurement. This study measures distress communication proficiency among Nautika cadets at Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Pelayaran (STIP) Jakarta through oral performance assessment across the principal SMCP distress phraseology categories, supplemented by cadet self-assessment survey and lecturer focus group discussion. Data were collected between April 2025 and April 2026 from 90 Nautika cadets and eight Maritime English and SMCP lecturers. Thematic analysis, cross-group comparison, and narrative synthesis were applied alongside quantitative proficiency analysis. Findings reveal a significant intra-domain proficiency variance: Mayday call initiation and structure achieves substantially higher accuracy than subsequent Mayday relay and Search and Rescue coordination phraseology sequences, indicating that cadet proficiency is concentrated at the instructional entry point of distress communication while the extended procedural sequences governing actual rescue coordination remain underdeveloped. A strong self-assessment overestimation tendency across all distress domains, combined with lecturer-identified scenario exposure insufficiency in curriculum design, provides the study's most actionable cross-group finding. The study establishes a STIP Jakarta-specific distress communication proficiency baseline and provides evidence-grounded curriculum enhancement recommendations.

Abstract

The Standard Marine Communication Phrases are designed to provide a shared communicative framework for multinational seafaring crews, yet the adequacy of SMCP training in preparing graduates for the actual linguistic and cultural complexity of mixed-nationality shipboard communication environments remains empirically underexamined from the perspective of those who have experienced both the institutional training and the real-world professional context it is intended to prepare them for. This study investigates multicultural crew communication challenges and SMCP utilization patterns through a qualitative inquiry involving STIP Jakarta graduates currently serving in mixed-nationality shipboard environments, SMCP lecturers, and shipping company safety and communication managers. Data were collected between April 2025 and April 2026 from twenty-seven participants across these three groups through focus group discussions and semi-structured interviews. Thematic analysis, cross-group comparison, and narrative synthesis were applied. Findings reveal that STIP Jakarta graduates experience four categories of post-training communicative challenge in mixed-nationality environments: SMCP deviation toward informal English, authority-gradient communication suppression, native speaker assumption disadvantage, and SMCP phrase non-recognition among non-training recipients such as non-STCW crew categories. Graduates' retrospective assessment of STIP Jakarta's SMCP training as adequate for exam performance but insufficient for multicultural communicative reality constitutes the study's central cross-group finding and provides the most direct evidence for curriculum reform. The study contributes a graduate-grounded, post-training account of SMCP multicultural communication challenge that institutional-level curriculum assessment cannot supply.

Abstract

MARPOL Annex I constitutes the international community's primary regulatory instrument for preventing operational oil pollution from ships, mandating specific onboard procedures for oil record book keeping, bilge water management, and slop handling that tanker vessel officers and ratings are expected to implement as routine operational practice. This study investigates the quality of MARPOL Annex I compliance practice and oil pollution risk mitigation understanding among Indonesian seafarers serving aboard tanker vessels, examining the gap between regulatory knowledge, procedural practice, and risk mitigation orientation through a qualitative design. Data were collected between April 2025 and April 2026 from twenty-six participants comprising active tanker vessel seafarers, shipping company technical managers, and STIP Jakarta Marine Engineering lecturers through focus group discussions and semi-structured interviews. Thematic analysis, cross-group comparison, and narrative synthesis were applied. Findings reveal that procedural MARPOL Annex I compliance is broadly maintained for documentation-visible procedures such as oil record book entries but substantially weaker for operationally complex procedures such as oily water separator management and slop handling, where the gap between documented and actual practice is most pronounced. Cross-group analysis reveals a technical knowledge deficit in the environmental chemistry and risk pathway dimensions of oil pollution rather than merely its procedural regulatory dimension, indicating that compliance practice is predominantly deterrence-driven rather than ecologically grounded. The study contributes a competency profile of MARPOL Annex I risk mitigation practice among Indonesian tanker seafarers and provides curriculum-actionable evidence for STIP Jakarta.

Abstract

Cataracts are a leading cause of visual impairment requiring surgical intervention. Preoperative conditions can trigger psychological responses of anxiety in patients. Untreated anxiety can affect hemodynamic stability and the success of medical procedures. Autogenic relaxation is a non-pharmacological intervention that can reduce anxiety by using self-suggestion to achieve a relaxed state in patients. This study aims to describe the management of nursing care in anxiety reduction using autogenic relaxation therapy in pre-cataract surgery patients. This research method used a case study design with a comprehensive nursing care approach including assessment, data analysis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. The patient's anxiety level was measured using the Amsterdam Preoperative Anxiety and Information Scale (APAIS). Nursing implementation was carried out over 5 hours with structured autogenic relaxation therapy interventions delivered before the patient underwent surgery. The final outcome of this case management was a reduction in the patient's anxiety. Based on the evaluation of the nursing actions taken, it can be concluded that the anxiety problem in pre-cataract surgery patients was resolved. Autogenic relaxation has been shown to reduce anxiety in pre-cataract surgery patients. It is hoped that this intervention can be implemented as a safe and efficient standard of independent nursing care in pre-operative patient psychological preparation.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of technology in the Society 5.0 era necessitates a fundamental shift in primary education, emphasizing not only technological proficiency but also robust moral foundations. This study explores the integration of digital literacy and character education in elementary schools, addressing the unique challenges and opportunities presented by a human-centered, super-smart society. Utilizing a systematic literature review and qualitative meta-synthesis of global educational practices over the last five years, this research investigates how primary education frameworks must adapt to foster a digitally intelligent yet character-driven generation. The findings reveal that while digital tools enhance interactive learning, there is a critical gap in ethical digital navigation among young learners. The discussion highlights that successful educational models in Society 5.0 require a tripartite approach: continuous pedagogical innovation, targeted digital upskilling for teachers, and active parental involvement. Furthermore, a comparison with traditional educational models demonstrates that modern character education must seamlessly encompass digital citizenship, cyberbullying prevention, and empathy in virtual environments. The study concludes that building a morally grounded generation demands holistic curriculum reforms that embed character values directly into digital literacy instruction, rather than treating them as separate entities.

Abstract

Subtheme 7: Environmental Law and Natural Resources. The management of natural resources and environmental protection in Indonesia faces complex challenges following the implementation of regional autonomy. While decentralization aims to bring governance closer to communities, it has also created gaps in legal protection, conflicts between economic interests and ecological sustainability, and unequal access to environmental justice for vulnerable groups. This study examines how legal frameworks currently regulate natural resource management, identifies barriers to fair and sustainable resource use, and proposes a legal model that balances regional authority, environmental preservation, and community rights. Using normative legal research supported by case studies on forest management, mineral extraction, and river basin governance in West Java Province, the analysis finds that overlapping regulations, weak enforcement of environmental rights, and marginalization of local communities hinder both resource sustainability and justice. The proposed approach strengthens legal standing for affected communities, establishes cross-jurisdictional resource management bodies, and embeds environmental justice principles into regional planning. This framework is expected to resolve conflicts, reduce environmental harm, and ensure that natural resources benefit present and future generations equitably.

Abstract

The rapid development of information technology has driven the transformation of conventional marketing strategies into digital ones. This study aims to analyze the influence of Social Media Marketing (SMM) and Influencer Endorsement on the purchase decision of Le Minerale Bottled Water products among Generation Z in Semarang Regency, as well as to test the role of Trust as a moderating variable. This type of research is quantitative, using a survey method with a Google Form-based questionnaire. The research sample was determined to be 140 Generation Z respondents residing in Semarang Regency, selected through a purposive sampling technique. The analysis tool used was the IBM SPSS Statistics 25 program with a Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA) approach. The results of the first-stage linear analysis showed that partially, SMM (X_1) has a positive and significant effect on the purchase decision (Y) with a significance value of 0.000. Influencer Endorsement (X_2) also has a positive and significant effect on the purchase decision with a significance value of 0.007. However, the results of the second-stage MRA test proved that the Trust variable (M) is not capable of moderating the relationship between either SMM or Influencer Endorsement and consumer purchase decisions (the interaction significance values are 0.994 and 0.910, respectively). Trust in this study acts as a pure predictor variable (predictor moderator) that directly exerts a strong impact on the purchase decision loyalty of Generation Z.
