Abstract

This study explores the psycholinguistic factors that influence vocabulary acquisition in young learners, focusing on the roles of working memory, phonological processing, and attentional control. Using a qualitative descriptive design, data were collected through classroom observations, interviews, and language task analysis involving children aged 6–8. The findings reveal that vocabulary learning is shaped by the interaction of these cognitive mechanisms rather than exposure alone. Children with stronger working memory retained new words more effectively, while those with higher phonological awareness encoded and retrieved sound patterns with greater accuracy. Attentional control further contributed to how deeply learners processed linguistic input, significantly affecting their ability to understand and store new vocabulary. The results demonstrate that vocabulary acquisition is a dynamic cognitive process dependent on individual differences in memory, sound processing, and attention. These insights highlight the need for instructional practices that address learners’ cognitive profiles and support more effective vocabulary development in early education.

Good language development, especially in speaking Makes children able to express their thoughts and feelings intelligently according to the context and situation when he is speaking. The goal is for students to be involved realistically rather than just practicing linguistic material. In the learning process at school, students' speaking skills still need to be guided, especially with good learning modeling from the teacher. And speaking skills are skills possessed by a person to convey ideas, feelings, and ideas to other people orally. To improve learning outcomes, students must be motivated both internally and externally. This study discusses the problem of how the relationship between parental attention and student learning outcomes in grade IV elementary school. This type of research is qualitative with a descriptive approach. The source of the research material is the parents of elementary school students and their academic results. Observations, questionnaires and interviews were used as methods in data collection. The results showed that 15 students with a percentage of 71.42% received parental attention in the very good category, 4 students with a percentage of 19.04% in the good category, and 2 students with a percentage of 9.52% in the category of little parental attention. The average student learning outcomes in the very good category were achieved by 13 students with a percentage of 61.90%, in the good category were 6 students with a percentage of 28.57%, the less and less good categories each received 1 student with a percentage of 4.76%. . Thus, parental attention has a relationship with student academic results.

The third section investigates the various factors that influence consonant pronunciation, including phonetic, phonological, sociolinguistic, and individual factors, as well as the impact of language contact and second language acquisition. The final section discusses the advantages of learning English consonants, such as improved communication skills, enhanced listening comprehension, expanded vocabulary acquisition, and increased oral fluency. Overall, this research provides valuable insights into the study of English consonants, offering a comprehensive understanding of their production, variations, and implications for language instruction and speech pathology.

Abstract

This study aims to provide insights into the specific difficulties encountered by Indonesian learners. This study used literature review to explore the phonological challenges and error patterns faced by Indonesian learners in English consonant production. The findings reveal that Indonesian learners often make substitution errors, replacing English consonants with sounds from their native language that are more familiar to them. Additionally, voicing errors, difficulties with consonant clusters, struggles with fricative consonants, and challenges related to stress and rhythm patterns are identified as common issues. These errors and difficulties are influenced by the phonetic patterns and structures of the Indonesian language.

Abstract

Literacy and numeracy are important aspects of education that play a key role in shaping students' knowledge and skills. Literacy includes the ability to read, write and speak, while numeracy involves understanding mathematical concepts and applying them in everyday life. Mastery of these skills provides students with a solid foundation, encouraging critical thinking, analytical skills, and effective communication. Through the Teaching Campus program, which aims to improve the literacy and numeracy of Indonesian students, tertiary students work closely with teachers and schools to develop teaching models that are innovative and inspire creativity. This program creates opportunities for people to contribute to improving the quality of student education through community service in schools. At SDN Klampis Ngasem II/511 Surabaya, the program implements the "Reading Veranda" initiative as a temporary solution to overcome the shortage of library space. This initiative ensures students' access to adequate reading materials and creates an engaging learning environment outdoors. The Veranda Baca program has had a positive impact in improving students' literacy and numeracy while creating a stimulating and innovative learning environment.

Abstract

This study investigates the interconnected roles of emotion and cognition in shaping comprehension processes within EFL classrooms from a psycholinguistic perspective. Using a qualitative design involving classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis, the research reveals that learners’ emotional states significantly influence their attentional control, working memory function, and overall ability to construct meaning. Positive emotions such as confidence and curiosity enhance cognitive efficiency, while negative emotionsm particularly anxiety disrupt processing and lead to superficial comprehension. The findings also highlight the importance of classroom environment, showing that supportive teacher interactions and collaborative peer engagement foster emotional comfort and facilitate deeper comprehension. In contrast, evaluative or high-pressure tasks trigger emotional tension that restricts cognitive readiness. Additionally, learners’ emotion regulation strategies play a critical role in sustaining engagement during challenging tasks. Overall, the study underscores that comprehension in EFL settings is a dynamic interaction between affective states, cognitive mechanisms, and classroom conditions. These insights call for pedagogical approaches that integrate emotional awareness to enhance learners’ cognitive performance and meaning-making abilities.
