Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the negative impacts of gadget use on early adolescents. The presence of gadgets, particularly in the form of smartphones, has significantly contributed to daily life as a medium for information retrieval, interaction, entertainment, and even online business activities. The advancement of information and communication technology is increasingly benefiting society. Gadgets, as one of the products of this technology, have transformed human communication behavior by transcending space and time. A gadget is a small electronic device with specific functions, such as a smartphone. Essentially, this technology was created to make human life easier and more comfortable. However, the rapid technological advancements today have made it nearly impossible to find any area of human life untouched by their use, whether directly or indirectly. Along with globalization and the demand for rapid information exchange, negative impacts on early adolescents have emerged. These impacts include health issues, educational challenges, disruptions in social interaction, and even effects on family economics. Excessive gadget use among early adolescents can trigger harmful side effects such as an increased risk of depression, health problems, anxiety disorders, difficulty focusing, and other problematic behaviors. Gadget addiction can also hinder adolescents from socializing with their surroundings and increase the risk of loneliness. The role of parents is crucial in setting boundaries to prevent gadget addiction among children and mitigate these risks.

Abstract

Education inequality in Indonesia remains a complex challenge, especially in remote areas and low-income communities. This study uses the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method to identify the main factors causing education inequality, such as limited infrastructure, shortage of qualified teaching staff, socio-economic barriers and government policy implementation constraints. The findings reveal that inadequate infrastructure and a shortage of qualified teachers are prevalent in rural and underdeveloped regions, significantly limiting educational quality. Geographical disparities and socio-economic challenges further exacerbate these inequalities, creating systemic barriers to equitable access. While programs such as the Indonesia Smart Program (PIP) and School Operational Assistance (BOS) have provided partial relief, their effectiveness is often hampered by unequal resource distribution and bureaucratic inefficiencies. This study recommends a data-driven approach for more effective resource allocation, cross-sector collaboration and strengthening of education policies to create an inclusive and sustainable education system. The findings provide important insights for policymakers to overcome structural barriers and ensure equitable education for all Indonesian children.

Abstract

Improving the quality of education relies on teacher professionalism and the effectiveness of the learning process. Educational supervision plays a strategic role in this context, functioning not merely as administrative oversight but also as professional guidance to assist teachers in identifying strengths and weaknesses and planning for ongoing improvement. This article aims to examine and synthesize various models, approaches, and techniques of educational supervision that support the development of teacher competence and learning quality. The study uses a qualitative library research method, involving systematic selection and critical analysis of relevant academic books, peer-reviewed journal articles, and educational policy documents published in the last five years. The results of the review show that supervision models such as collaborative, clinical, educational-collaborative, digital-based, contemporary, and monitoring-evaluation-based supervision are effective in different contexts. These models are applied using directive, non-directive, and collaborative approaches, supported by both individual and group supervision techniques. A key insight from this study is that the success of educational supervision depends on its ability to adapt to teachers' needs and school contexts. Therefore, optimizing supervision practices through the integration of suitable models and flexible techniques can significantly enhance teacher professionalism and overall learning quality.

Abstract

Environmental cleanliness is a socially relevant yet underexplored theme in early childhood cognitive development. While preschool education often introduces hygiene routines, little is known about how young children cognitively construct meaning around cleanliness. Most studies have focused on abstract academic domains like literacy and numeracy, while real-world issues remain marginal despite their potential to stimulate rich cognitive processes. This study investigates the cognitive profiles of six-year-old children on the theme of environmental cleanliness, grounded in Piaget’s theory of the preoperational stage. It explores how children demonstrate development across four domains including symbolic thinking, memory, language use, and imagination. A thematic assessment instrument was developed and validated through expert review, comprising 13 observable indicators. Data were collected through structured observation and guided interviews with seven children in three kindergartens in Medan, Indonesia. Findings revealed that most participants were categorized as established in memory and language use, indicating strong recall and verbal explanation of cleanliness routines. However, symbolic thinking and imagination remained in the developing range, particularly in tasks involving abstraction or causal reasoning. These results highlight the importance of contextualized, thematic assessment in revealing nuanced developmental patterns and underscore the need to foster symbolic and imaginative reasoning as part of early environmental education.

Abstract

This study explores the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) use on the quality and efficiency of academic tasks among students in higher education. The widespread integration of AI tools—such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, and other language models—has significantly influenced learning behaviors, information access, and task completion processes. The purpose of this study is to investigate how the use of AI technologies affects students’ ability to produce academic tasks with higher quality and in a more time-efficient manner, while also identifying possible drawbacks such as overreliance. A mixed-method approach was employed, combining quantitative data collected through questionnaires with qualitative insights gained from interviews. A total of 80% of the surveyed students reported frequent use of AI tools in their academic work, with ChatGPT being the most preferred platform. Results indicate that 85% of students perceived a positive impact of AI on task quality, while 75% reported improved efficiency. The qualitative data supported these findings, highlighting enhanced understanding, faster idea generation, and reduced workload. However, concerns regarding dependence and ethical use were also raised. This study concludes that AI holds substantial potential to support academic performance, but its integration must be guided by responsible usage and critical awareness in educational contexts.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the use of storytelling methods in instilling good values in children in Aek Muara Pinang Village. This activity was carried out by KPPM students of the Religious Extension Education Study Program through the formation of child foster groups who routinely attend spiritual service sessions. One of the materials used in storytelling is the Bible story of David and Goliath. This study uses a qualitative approach with data collection techniques in the form of participant observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques are carried out by means of data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The results of the study showed that the storytelling method proved effective in building children's understanding of good values such as loving each other, helping each other, and obedience to parents. The children showed high enthusiasm for the stories told, and consistently began to show behavioral changes in everyday life. This study suggests that the storytelling method be applied more widely as a tool for children's spiritual education in Christian communities, especially in areas with limited access to formal character education.
