Abstract

Background: Being old and experiencing chemotherapy can have a negative effect on mental well-being, causing expanded uneasiness and discouragement. Researchers have investigated various therapies as potential arrangements to address these mental challenges. Some studies showed that monotherapy utilizing either life review therapy or emotional freedom technique therapy is successful in lightening discouragement. Purpose: To explore the effectiveness of combining life review therapy and emotional freedom technique therapy to ease or decrease the depression of an elderly person who took chemotherapy. Methods: The design of our study was a quasi-experiment on an elderly person who took a chemotherapy regimen at Achmad Moechtar Bukittinggi District Hospital in Bukittinggi. We used accidental sampling and a sample size of 20 respondents. A total of six sessions of LR-EFTT, a combination therapy of life review therapy and emotional freedom technique therapy, were given to 10 people who met the criteria and were in the intervention group. Ten people who were in the control group did not receive any intervention. Data was collected by using the Geriatric Depression Scale-15 in order to assess the dependent variable, which met the validity and reliability (Cronbach α = 0.817), and use an independent t-test to conclude this research. Results: We found that there was a significant difference in depression between the two groups (p-value = 0.000). The mean of the control group (10.1) is higher than the intervention group (6.20). Conclusion: It concludes that combined therapy of life review therapy and emotional freedom technique therapy (LR-EFTT) was effective in reducing depression in elderly patients undergoing chemotherapy

Abstract

Background: Down syndrome is a global health problem of particular concern because people with Down syndrome have a wide variety of clinical disorders and are one of the causes of mental retardation and serious physical growth disorders.Down syndrome can occur at all socioeconomic, ethnic and demographic levels. The incidence of Down Syndrome will increase as the mother's age increases at the time of pregnancy and the incidence varies in different populations: 1 in 319 to 1 in 1000 live births. Each year, an estimated 3,000 to 5,000 children are born with Down syndrome. The APOE gene is located in the long arm (q) of chromosome 19 at position 13.2 (19q13.2). The APOE gene consists of four exons and three introns, a total of 3597 base pairs. In melanocyte cells APOE gene expression can be regulated by MITF. APOE is a form of polymorphic, which translates into three gene alleles: normal: allele ?3 and dysfunctional: allele ?2 and allele ?4.  The polymorphism of the APOE gene had a strong effect on the level of allele production, a high concentration of APOE indicated that the production of ?4 allele was increased and a low concentration of APOE was associated with the production of ?2 allelePurpose:To Analyze of Allele Frequency Distribution Apoliprotein E Gene  in Patients With Down Syndrome Trisomy  21Methods: This research is an analitic observasional study with a comparative  study design. The sample used was the result of DNA extraction patients with Down's Syndrome Trisomy 21 as many as 33 samples and 33 controls stored in the Biomedical Laboratory, Faculty of Medicine, Andalas University, Padang, Indonesia. The next step is to examine the APOE gene polymorphisms using PCR and sequencing techniques. Results: Samples of Down syndrome patients had variations in the distribution of alleles, where alleles ?4 and ?2 were found even though the allele frequency ?3 was still the highest allele frequency. Meanwhile, in the samples representing the normal control population, ?3 and ?2 alleles were found and no ?4 allele was found. Although the allele is not associated with Down Syndrome, Down Syndrome sufferers have a 2.26 times greater risk for e2 and e4 alleles than e3.Conclusion: There was a difference in the frequency distribution pattern of the APOE gene allele in patients with Down Trisomy Syndrome 21 compared to the control.

Abstract

Pre-analytical errors contribute to approximately 70% of all laboratory testing errors, including errors in blood specimen collection and handling. Improper blood specimen collection and handling procedures can lead to inaccurate test results, resulting in misinterpretation of laboratory test results. Crossmatching, a procedure to match patient and donor blood prior to transfusion, is a crucial step in this process. However, the urgent need for blood transfusions in thalassemia patients often necessitates expedited crossmatching, sometimes even omitting the incubation phase. This accelerated process may compromise the accuracy of the crossmatch results. To determine the relationship between phlebotomists' knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors regarding blood specimen collection and handling with the quality of venous blood specimens in the laboratory of RSUD X. To evaluate the impact of incubation on gel test crossmatch results in thalassemia patients at RSUD Jampangkulon. This was an analytical observational study using a questionnaire instrument. The research sample consisted of 126 nurses and 14 medical laboratory technicians at RSUD X. The sampling technique used was disproportionate stratified random sampling. Data analysis used the Chi-square test. A quasi-experimental design with a one-group pre-test and post-test design was adopted for this study. Gel test crossmatching was employed to analyze the samples, and the Wilcoxon signed-rank test was conducted to assess for statistically significant differences. There was a relationship between phlebotomists' knowledge of blood specimen collection and handling and the quality of laboratory specimens (p-value 0.001). There was no relationship between phlebotomists' attitudes toward blood specimen collection and handling and the quality of laboratory specimens (p-value 0.682). There was no relationship between phlebotomists' behavior in blood specimen collection and handling and the quality of laboratory specimens (p-value 0.494). Both incubated and non-incubated crossmatch tests yielded identical results for major, minor, and autocontrol compatibility in 11 thalassemia patient samples. However, 14 samples demonstrated incompatibility in the minor and autocontrol categories. Wilcoxon signed-rank test results showed a p-value of 0.000 (p<0.05) for the incubated group and an asymptotic significance (2-tailed) of 1.000 (>0.05). Similarly, the non-incubated group exhibited a p-value of 0.000 (p<0.05) and an asymptotic significance (2-tailed) of 1.000 (>0.05). There is a significant relationship between phlebotomists' knowledge of blood specimen collection and handling and the quality of laboratory specimens at RSUD X. There is no relationship between phlebotomists' attitudes and behaviors regarding blood specimen collection and handling and the quality of laboratory specimens at RSUD X. There was no significant difference in the results between the incubated and non-incubated samples of thalassemia patients.

Abstract

Discharge planning is a crucial element in nursing care, especially for patients recovering from severe medical conditions like ischemic stroke. Effective discharge planning influences patient outcomes, including recovery levels and quality of life. This literature review aims to explore studies on the implementation of the SECI model in discharge planning for ischemic stroke patients. Databases used include Google Scholar, PubMed, ScienceDirect, Semantic Scholar, ResearchGate, and BMC, with a systematic literature review method. Keywords used were "ischemic stroke" and "discharge planning." A total of 120 articles were retrieved from the literature search, which were then filtered using the PICO framework and CRAAP criteria. The SECI model-based discharge planning was found to be more effective than standard methods. To enhance discharge planning for ischemic stroke patients, hospitals and nurses need to train nurses in the SECI model and develop audiovisual-based educational modules. Good communication among healthcare team members should be maintained, and families need to be involved in the discharge process. Regular evaluations are also essential to identify improvements and gather feedback from patients and families
