Abstract

Social studies education in elementary schools plays a crucial role in developing students’ understanding of society, culture, and civic responsibility. However, low student engagement and limited interest in the subject often hinder effective learning. This study aims to explore strategies employed by elementary school teachers to enhance students’ interest in social studies, focusing on interactive learning, integration of local context and culture, use of creative learning media, and collaboration with parents and the community. A qualitative research design was adopted, employing classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis of lesson plans and teaching materials. Purposive sampling was used to select teachers who implement innovative and student-centered approaches in their classrooms. The findings reveal that interactive strategies such as group discussions, role-playing, and simulations increase student participation and motivation. Lessons connected to local culture and community issues make content more relevant and meaningful, while creative media and project-based tasks enhance comprehension and active learning. Collaboration with parents and the community further strengthens engagement and fosters social awareness, empathy, and civic responsibility. These strategies collectively contribute to improved academic outcomes, positive attitudes toward learning, and the development of critical thinking and social skills. The study underscores the vital role of teachers as facilitators who link students to knowledge, culture, and society.

Abstract

This study originates from the significance of expository texts in Indonesian language textbooks as a medium to enhance students’ reading comprehension, critical thinking, and academic literacy. However, variations in structure, cohesion, coherence, and text complexity often pose challenges in the learning process. The purpose of this research is to analyze the structure of expository texts in Indonesian language textbooks, identify their strengths and weaknesses, and provide practical recommendations for teachers and curriculum developers. The study employed a qualitative approach using content analysis design. Data were collected through purposive sampling of Indonesian language textbooks used across different educational levels. The analysis focused on structural elements (thesis, arguments, evidence, and conclusion), cohesion and coherence devices, as well as levels of text complexity. The findings reveal that most expository texts follow the classical pattern of thesis–argument–evidence–conclusion, yet inconsistencies remain in the use of cohesion devices, logical flow, and variations of text complexity across grade levels. These factors significantly affect students’ comprehension and engagement. The study emphasizes the importance of teacher scaffolding, progressive sequencing of materials, and explicit training in text analysis to strengthen students’ critical literacy and academic skills.

Abstract

This study was conducted to improve the learning outcomes of second-grade students in mathematics at SD IT Rumah Anak Soleh Buton. The research applied classroom action research carried out in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of the stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The learning process was designed by applying the Cooperative Learning Model type Two Stay Two Stray, assisted by concrete media, to make mathematical concepts more accessible and meaningful for students. Data collection techniques included observation sheets, test instruments, and documentation, which were analyzed descriptively to capture both the process and the results of student learning. The findings of the study revealed that student learning outcomes improved across the cycles. Initially, many students had difficulty achieving the expected mastery in addition and subtraction, but after the implementation of the model, a significant improvement was observed. The cooperative approach encouraged active participation, peer learning, and better conceptual understanding. The use of concrete media also helped students relate abstract mathematical ideas to real-life contexts, thus strengthening their comprehension and motivation. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the Cooperative Learning Model type Two Stay Two Stray with concrete media is effective in improving mathematics learning outcomes among second-grade students.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the changing patterns of youth speech in the digital era, which are increasingly dynamic and tend to shift toward informal language use. The rapid development of technology and social media has significantly influenced communication practices, giving rise to phenomena such as code-mixing and inconsistencies in linguistic politeness. This condition is important to examine from an educational perspective, particularly in efforts to develop ethical and well-structured language behavior. The study aims to analyze speech patterns in social interactions and to identify the factors influencing them. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach to gain an in-depth and contextual understanding of speech pattern phenomena. Data were collected through participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation to ensure rich and valid information. Data analysis follows the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification conducted iteratively to ensure credible and comprehensive findings. The findings indicate that speech patterns tend to be informal, involve code-mixing in communication, and show inconsistency in linguistic politeness. Technological advancement and social environment emerge as the main factors shaping these communication patterns. The study concludes that strengthening language education through more adaptive and contextual approaches is necessary to enhance language awareness, enabling individuals to communicate politely, effectively, and responsibly.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) remains a major global public health problem, particularly in developing countries, including Indonesia. Adolescents are a vulnerable group that often lacks adequate awareness and understanding of TB prevention. Therefore, integrating education and public health approaches is considered a strategic effort to improve adolescents’ awareness. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of integrating education and public health in enhancing adolescents’ awareness of tuberculosis. The research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design using a non-equivalent control group design. Data were collected through questionnaires administered as pre-test and post-test to both experimental and control groups. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential tests, including paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test. The results showed a significant increase in adolescents’ awareness in the experimental group, with the mean score rising from 62.45 to 81.30, while the control group showed only a slight increase. Statistical analysis indicated a significant difference between the two groups (p < 0.05). The findings suggest that the integration of education and public health is effective in improving adolescents’ knowledge, attitudes, and preventive behaviors toward TB. In conclusion, this integrated approach can be used as an effective strategy for TB prevention among adolescents.

Abstract

This study examines the role of teachers in promoting a positive social environment in an elementary school setting. A positive social environment is essential for supporting students’ social and emotional development, including cooperation, communication, and mutual respect. The purpose of this study is to analyze how teachers contribute to creating a conducive social environment and to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors involved. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving teachers, students, and the school principal. The data were analyzed using an interactive model consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, supported by triangulation to ensure validity. The findings reveal that teachers play a significant role as social role models, implement social learning strategies such as group work and discussions, and effectively manage classroom social interactions. However, several challenges were identified, including limited time, academic-focused priorities, and lack of specific training in social and character education. Despite these constraints, the efforts made by teachers have positively impacted students’ social development, as evidenced by improved cooperation, communication, and respect among students, although not evenly distributed. In conclusion, teachers are key agents in fostering a positive social environment, and continuous support is needed to optimize their role in enhancing students’ social development.
