Abstract

This study explores the manuscript titled Fatḥ al-Ghawāmiḍ fī Sharḥ Kāfiya al-Farā’iḍ, written by Kiai Zainullah, a prominent Islamic scholar from Malang. The manuscript serves as a commentary on Kāfiya al-Farā’iḍ, a compilation of naẓm on Islamic inheritance law (‘ilm al-farā’iḍ), composed by the same author. Using a philological approach, this study analyzes the textual structure, content, and historical significance of Fatḥ al-Ghawāmiḍ, highlighting its role in the scholarly tradition of Indonesian pesantren. The study finds that the manuscript follows the classical method of Islamic scholarship, incorporating references to authoritative fiqh texts and employing a systematic explanatory style. Additionally, the work reflects the broader textual culture of pesantren, where the transmission of Islamic knowledge is maintained through the study of kitab kuning (classical Islamic texts). This research contributes to the understanding of Islamic legal manuscripts, especially on Islamic inheritance law, in Indonesia and emphasizes the importance of preserving the intellectual heritage of Nusantara scholars.

Abstract

Tawadhu' or 'humility' is an attitude that cannot arise by itself, because tawadhu' must bring his heart to submit, be obedient, surrender to Allah, and have compassion for humans. There are four aspects of attitude in compiling the tawadhu scale, namely showing respect and gentleness, communicating in a polite manner, apologizing if you act, and praying. If a person carries out these four aspects seriously, he will achieve an attitude of humility in him. One form of tawadhu' of a santri to Kyai is shown by the students of the Pondok Pesantren Al-urwatul Wutsqo Jombang in the way of marriage. The guardians or the parents of the students send their children to the Kyai to choose and determine their child's mate (partner). Guardians and students learn to accept God's destiny through obedience to the kyai to be matched and finally married to whoever is chosen and determined by the kyai by the process of matchmaking, ta'aruf or even by kopyo'an (lottery).

Abstract

This study aims to reconstruct the concept of character education based on tazkiyat al-nafs as articulated in Ihya’ Ulum al-Din by Abu Hamid al-Ghazali and to reinterpret its relevance in addressing the moral crisis of the digital generation. The rapid development of digital technology has significantly transformed patterns of communication, learning, and social interaction among adolescents, while simultaneously increasing the risks of ethical deviation, impulsive behavior, and declining moral awareness. Many contemporary character education programs emphasize rule-based digital literacy; however, they often fail to cultivate deep internal moral consciousness. This research employs a qualitative approach using a library research design, with primary data drawn from Ihya’ Ulum al-Din and supported by relevant contemporary scholarly sources. Data were analyzed through content analysis and hermeneutic interpretation to reconstruct Al-Ghazali’s conceptual framework within the context of modern educational challenges. The findings reveal that Al-Ghazali’s model of moral formation is fundamentally centered on the purification of the heart as the core of human behavior. The stages of takhalli (eliminating blameworthy traits), tahalli (cultivating praiseworthy virtues), and tajalli (manifesting divine values in conduct) represent a systematic and transformative pedagogical process. This framework integrates cognitive understanding, ethical practice, and spiritual discipline, aligning with contemporary concepts of self-regulation and reflective awareness. The study concludes that reconstructing character education based on tazkiyat al-nafs provides a holistic, theoretically coherent, and pedagogically applicable model for fostering morally conscious, emotionally balanced, and digitally responsible individuals in the modern era.

Abstract

This study addresses the increasing demand for meaningful technology integration in education, which has not yet been adequately supported by systematic and sustainable professional development models, particularly in Arabic language teaching in madrasah. The study aims to develop a sustainable, reflective, and contextually grounded professional development model based on technology integration. This research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using a Design-Based Research (DBR) framework involving 30 Arabic language teachers at the Madrasah Aliyah level. Data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, observations, and document analysis, and analyzed using descriptive statistics and thematic analysis. The findings reveal a high level of need for sustainable technology-based professional development. The developed model (Pro-TArMad) was validated as highly valid by experts and demonstrated effectiveness through iterative DBR cycles, as indicated by improvements in teachers’ TPACK competence and instructional practices. The model emphasizes continuous cycles of needs analysis, design, implementation, reflection, and refinement. This study contributes both practically, by offering an implementable model for madrasah, and theoretically, by advancing the discourse on sustainable teacher professional development in technology-enhanced language education.

Abstract

Problem-Based Learning (PBL) has been increasingly recognized as an effective pedagogical approach in mathematics education, particularly for enhancing students’ critical and creative thinking skills. This study examines the integration of PBL with Islamic educational principles to foster mathematical creativity and character development in students. Using a qualitative theoretical approach and an extensive literature review, the research explores how PBL can be implemented in Islamic-based mathematics education, identifies practical strategies, and addresses challenges such as teacher readiness, infrastructure limitations, and technological integration. Findings indicate that PBL not only deepens students’ conceptual understanding and problem-solving abilities but also promotes moral and spiritual development by embedding Islamic values such as honesty, perseverance, and ethical conduct in learning activities. The study highlights practical implications, including the use of storytelling-based e-comics and AI-supported learning tools, to create a more interactive, contextual, and value-oriented learning environment. Overall, integrating PBL with Islamic education offers a holistic approach that enhances both academic outcomes and character formation in mathematics education.
