Abstract

Planting Islamic values from an early age is a fundamental aspect in the process of child education. In this context, Qur'anic exegesis plays an important role as an educative medium that not only conveys religious messages, but also shapes children's character and morals. This study aims to examine how Aam Amiruddin's Seri Tafsir Al-Qur’an Kontemporer for Kids is utilised as a medium for children's education, both in terms of the approach to delivering the material, the language used, and the educational values it contains. This research method includes text analysis, focusing on the internal components of tafsir and the systematic presentation by the author contained in the work. This analysis is done in depth to understand how the presentation of the Qur'anic tafsir becomes a relevant educational medium for children. The results show that this tafsir is compiled using simple, interesting, and dialogical language, by including illustrations, and aligning the content of the Qur'an on daily themes that are relevant to the world of children. The educational values conveyed include faith, worship, morals, and social aspects. Thus, Seri Tafsir Al-Qur’an Kontemporer for Kids proves to be an effective alternative educational media in introducing the content of the Qur'an to children in a fun and educational manner.

Abstract

This study discusses the interpretation of QS. An- Nisā ' verse 34 has often sparked debate, particularly within feminist discourse and discussions of gender bias rooted in pre-Islamic patriarchal structures. Most interpretations of this verse tend to adopt a literal approach (ḥaqīqah), positioning men as leaders over women, based on the assumption that the verse is qa ṭ ' ī al- dalālah—textually definitive and not open to alternative interpretations. This study aims to critically assess that dominant approach by exploring the potential of using majāz (figurative meaning) to offer a more contextual and equitable understanding. The research employs a library-based method with a descriptive-analytical approach, examining relevant primary and secondary sources. The findings reveal that relying solely on a literal reading of the verse without considering its socio-historical context may lead to interpretive bias. Therefore, an integrative approach—balancing both the outward (literal) and inward (figurative) meanings—is essential to ensure that the Qur'anic message remains dynamic and relevant across time.

Abstract

This study discusses the ruling on interfaith marriage according to the Qur’an, particularly in Surah al-Baqarah verse 221. This verse explicitly prohibits marriage between a Muslim and a polytheist due to its potential negative impact on faith. Sayyid Qutb, in his tafsir Fī Ẓilāl al-Qur’ān, emphasizes the importance of preserving religious beliefs and spiritual values within the family, and warns against the dangers of interfaith marriage. Although Islam permits marriage with the People of the Book under certain conditions, it still requires safeguarding one’s faith. This research aims to examine the relationship between love and faith in the context of interfaith marriage based on the interpretation of Q.S. al-Baqarah: 221. The study employs a qualitative method with a thematic (maudhu’i) approach, specifically using the adab al-ijtimā‘i interpretation model. It is a library-based research using descriptive-analytical techniques. The findings reveal that interfaith marriage is prohibited in Islam, as marriage is not merely the union of two individuals, but a means of perfecting the faith of Muslim men and women. This research is expected to serve as a reference for further studies in the field of Qur’anic exegesis.

Abstract

The Islamic Worldview is the antithesis of various issues faced by the Muslim community, particularly those related to thought and civilisation. However, the ideas and concepts of the Islamic Worldview remain largely undercommunicated to the general public, especially through approaches that are practical, easy to understand, and impactful. This study aims to uncover the role of tadabbur Al-Qur'an as one of the easy and accessible approaches for anyone to cultivate the Islamic Worldview. This study employs a qualitative method with a library research approach, as the research subject or data collection is based on literature. The findings reveal that tadabbur possesses ontological, epistemological, and axiological dimensions that help construct a worldview based on tawhid, strengthen value internalization, and guide practical actions. Tadabbur not only enhances understanding of Qur’anic meanings but also initiates a reflective process that affects cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects. Therefore, tadabbur of the Qur’an serves as a strategic method to promote the Islamic Worldview across diverse societal levels.

Abstract

Al-Baiḍāwī's Anwār Al-Tanzīl Wa Asrār Al-Ta’wīl is one of the most phenomenal tafsir books of its time. This tafsir book is interesting to discuss because it is rich in religious schools adhered to by the exegete. One of the reasons for the richness of religious schools in this tafsir is suspected to be because Al-Baiḍāwī lived in a situation of tension between groups within each discipline of Islamic science. In this study, the author uses the content analysis method to interpret and identify the tafsir book mentioned above. In addition, the explanatory method was chosen to find the message of the interpreter so that it can be understood and taken. It was found that first: the interpretation of Anwār Al-Tanzīl Wa Asrār Al-Ta’wīl is the result of mukhtaṣar from the interpretation of al-Kasysyāf by al-Zamakhsyari which is in the Mu’tazilah genre, and the interpretation of Mafātiḥ al-Ghaib by Fakhruddin al-Rāzī which is in the Ahlussunnah wal Jama’ah genre, but he avoided Zamakhsyari’s views which contain elements of Mu’tazilah understanding. Second: When interpreting the verses of tajsim, Al-Baiḍāwī presented them concisely and showed his tendency towards the Shafi’i school of thought which he adhered to. Third: Al-Baiḍāwī in his work, not only interpreted, but also provided interpretations of the verses of the Qur'an using an approach based on Arabic language rules.

Abstract

This paper explores tafsir bi-al-mathur, or tradition-based Quranic exegesis, examining its core elements, interpretive diversity, and relevance in both historical and contemporary contexts. Defined by reliance on the Quran itself, prophetic traditions, and the interpretations of the Companions and Successors, tafsir bi-al-mathur is foundational in Islamic scholarship for preserving original meanings of the Quran. However, its dependence on early sources raises questions about its adaptability to current ethical, legal, and social issues within Muslim communities. Through a qualitative analysis, this study investigates primary interpretative methods within tafsir bi-al-mathur, including tafsir al-Quran bi-l-Quran, tafsir bi-al-hadith, and interpretations by the Companions and Successors. The paper reveals how tafsir bi-al-mathur maintains Quranic authenticity while offering insights into its potential relevance for contemporary applications. This study contributes to Quranic studies by affirming tafsir bi-al-mathur as both a resilient and adaptable approach, balancing fidelity to foundational texts with interpretive flexibility in modern Islamic discourse.

Abstract

This study examines the tafsīr method of Firdaws al-Na'īm by Thaifur Ali Wafa, which represents a significant contribution to the development of contemporary tafsīr in Indonesia. This method integrates classical tafsīr traditions with a contextual approach relevant to local social and cultural issues, particularly in Madura. The main focus of this research is to analyze how Firdaws al-Na'īm combines the text of the Qur'ān with the cultural values of Madura and its contribution to addressing the modern challenges of Muslim life in Indonesia. Using a qualitative approach based on library research, this study compares Firdaws al-Na'īm with classical tafsir works such as Tafsīr al-Qhurtūbī, al-Nasāfī, al-Jalālayn, and Mafātih al-Ghayb. The findings reveal that Firdaws al-Na'īm offers a tafsīr that is not only theoretical but also practical, considering the social and cultural context. This method enriches the tafsīr tradition in Indonesia and provides a new, relevant perspective for contemporary Muslim life
