Abstract

This study examines the tafsīr method of Firdaws al-Na'īm by Thaifur Ali Wafa, which represents a significant contribution to the development of contemporary tafsīr in Indonesia. This method integrates classical tafsīr traditions with a contextual approach relevant to local social and cultural issues, particularly in Madura. The main focus of this research is to analyze how Firdaws al-Na'īm combines the text of the Qur'ān with the cultural values of Madura and its contribution to addressing the modern challenges of Muslim life in Indonesia. Using a qualitative approach based on library research, this study compares Firdaws al-Na'īm with classical tafsir works such as Tafsīr al-Qhurtūbī, al-Nasāfī, al-Jalālayn, and Mafātih al-Ghayb. The findings reveal that Firdaws al-Na'īm offers a tafsīr that is not only theoretical but also practical, considering the social and cultural context. This method enriches the tafsīr tradition in Indonesia and provides a new, relevant perspective for contemporary Muslim life

Abstract

Interpretations with pragmatic and ideological approaches to Qur'anic verses have the potential to trigger deviations in people's understanding. Sensen Komara uses this interpretation to strengthen the ideology and legitimacy of his movement, which has the potential to cause division among Muslims. This study aims to analyze the methods and approaches used by Sensen Komara to examine the legitimacy of Sensen Komara's interpretation of the change in Qibla direction contained in QS. Al-Baqarah verse 142-144, as well as comparing it with authoritative interpretations from leading scholars. The research conducted is library research, namely by collecting library data. This research uses a qualitative-descriptive-analytical method by explaining or describing through clear words and detailing systematically, factually and accurately based on existing data. The interpretation of QS. Al-Baqarah 142-144 by DI/TII Sensen Komara reflects an attempt to use the Qur'an as a means of legitimizing the ideology of their movement. This pragmatic and ideological approach shows the courage to adapt the sacred text according to the context of their struggle. Interpretations that tend to be partial and contextually limited risk ignoring the universal and inclusive dimensions of Qur'ānic verses. As a consequence, the deep spiritual message of changing the Qibla direction as a symbol of Muslim obedience and unity can be reduced to a mere political tool. This interpretation shows the importance of a balance between understanding the historical context and the universal message of the Qur'an

Abstract

The declining effectiveness of Islamic preaching in the modern era indicates the need for a communicative approach that engages both the rational and emotional dimensions of human beings. In this context, the Qur’an offers a powerful rhetorical framework through the concepts of targhīb (motivation and promise) and tarhīb (warning and deterrence) as persuasive instruments of da‘wah. This study aims to analyze the role of Qur’anic rhetoric in verses containing targhīb and tarhīb as a method of preaching capable of fostering moral and spiritual awareness within contemporary society. Employing a qualitative method based on thematic exegesis (tafsir maudhu‘i), this research systematically identifies, classifies, and analyzes relevant verses to uncover their rhetorical patterns and ethical messages. The findings reveal that Qur’anic rhetoric integrates logical reasoning, aesthetic expression, and spiritual depth in conveying divine guidance effectively. Verses of targhīb cultivate hope, optimism, and moral transformation through promises of divine mercy and reward, while verses of tarhīb reinforce ethical responsibility through reminders of accountability and punishment. The synergy between these two elements produces a balanced model of preaching that harmonizes hope and caution, shaping reflective and morally grounded individuals. This study affirms the continued relevance of Qur’anic rhetoric as a foundation for developing contextual, humane, and communicative models of da‘wah in response to contemporary social change.

Abstract

This study explores Sayyid Quthb's interpretation of contentment in Surah Ṭāhā verse 131 through the interpretation of Fī Ẓilāl al-Qur’ān, while also revealing its relevance as a moral basis for dealing with the phenomenon of Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) in the digital age, namely the era of socio-cultural transformation marked by the massive penetration of digital technology into all aspects of human life including how to interact, communicate, and construct self-identity through social media. The main focus needs to be directed at the role of contentment. This attitude is a spiritual remedy for social anxiety triggered by the habit of comparing oneself on social media. The study adopts a descriptive-analytical approach based on literature study. The main data comes from the text of the Qur'an Surah Ṭāhā (20): 131. To strengthen the analysis, this study not only refers to Sayyid Quthb's thoughts in Fī Ẓilāl al-Qur’ān, but also attempts to dialogue with various other tafsir books. The main contribution of this study lies in exploring the relevance of Sayyid Qutb’s thoughts in Fī Ẓilāl al-Qur’ān to address contemporary mental issues, particularly the phenomenon of FOMO. By making the concept of qanā’ah as a meeting point, this study attempts to open a space for dialogue between Sayyid Qutb’s interpretation and the spiritual needs of digital society, while acknowledging that enrichment from various other interpretive perspectives is still very necessary for a more comprehensive understanding

Abstract

This article aims to observe the substantive contact between the concept of al-manṭūq wa al-mafhūm in uṣūl al-fiqh and the three functions of Gracia’s hermeneutics. This article focuses on elaborating both conceptions substantively and applying them to some verses of the Qur’an to understand the rendezvous of both concepts, particularly in the interpretative sphere. This article uses both semantic and interpretative approaches in order to analyze the objects. Based on this result, it is found that there is a substantive contact between both conceptions. Firstly, both conceptions are used to determine the original meaning of the text; the uṣūl al-fiqh employs the term of al-ma'nā al-manṭūq, while Gracia’s hermeneutics uses the “historical function.” Secondly, both conceptions can also be used to produce new contemporary meanings; the uṣūl al-fiqh utilizes the term of al-ma'nā al-mafhūm, while Gracia’s hermeneutics employs the “meaning function.” Third, a certain response must be made to the contemporary meaning. In this regard, the uṣūl al-fiqh stipulates this in the process of istinbāṭ al-ḥukm, while Gracia’s hermeneutics calls this as the “implicative function.”

Abstract

The pronunciation of dhikr in the Qur'an is mentioned 292 times, with various forms of the word derivation (sighat). One form of the word in the form of isim masdar is found in QS. Thaha [20]: 14. This research is a library research with an analysis approach of the Qur'an (interpretation) and philosophy. The method used in this study is the method of philosophical interpretation of Muhammad Fakhr al-Din al-Razi and Karl Buhler's Psycholinguistic Semiotics. The main objective of this study is to determine the relationship between dhikr and tauhid. The researcher describes data about the concept of dhikr in the Qur'an Surah Thaha [20]: 14 perspectives of al-Tafsir Mafatih al-Ghayb and Karl Buhler's Psycholinguistic Semiotics. The results obtained from this study are that dhikr as monotheistic awareness is not enough to be done only with theoretical knowledge. Monotheism that is carried out only with theoretical knowledge will only be informative. Therefore, it is necessary to have an awareness of knowledge and an actual awareness that is affirmative in nature, to achieve true monotheism.

Abstract

Research on scientific signs can provide a deeper understanding of the scientific content of the Quran, but the lack of integration between Quranic scholarly studies and modern scientific studies has led to a gap in the understanding of Muslims regarding the Quran. Based on this issue, the researcher aims to uncover the scientific signs behind Surah Ash-Shams verses 1-5, such as the sun, moon, day, night, and the sky. This research refers to the commentary of Zaghloul An-Najjar due to his expertise in the field of earth sciences, making the study more effective in revealing the truth of the Quran. The research method used is qualitative with a scientific-themed maudhui commentary approach. This study is a literature review using descriptive analysis methods. The results obtained from this research are: Firstly, the immense benefits and materials of sunlight cannot be replaced by human-made alternatives. Secondly, the natural phenomena called solar and lunar eclipses. Thirdly, sunlight influences the production of serotonin hormone during the day, while the increasing darkness of the night helps the production of melatonin hormone. Fourthly, behind the visible sunlight, there is a daytime layer surrounding the earth above the Earth's atmospheric layer, allowing solar energy to reach the Earth. Finally, the vastness of the sky in outer space is discussed, leading to various galaxies and clusters of galaxies.

Abstract

The commandment of hijab for Muslim women is often a significant topic in religious and social terms around the world because women are always in the spotlight in social realities. However, the obligation of hijab in QS. Al-Ahzab (33): 59 has become problematic to fashion trends. This study analyzes the rules and meanings in QS. Al-Ahzab (33): 59 and its implications for the provisions of hijab for Muslim women. This study uses thematic interpretation and content analysis methods to explore the message contained in the verse. In addition to discussing the command to use the hijab as an identity, this article also discusses QS. Al-Ahzab (33): 59 from the historical context of the verse's revelation, interpretations from various tafsir scholars, and its relevance in the modern context. The results show that the command to wear hijab in this verse aims to maintain the honor and identity of Muslim women, as well as protect them from unwanted actions. The implication of this verse on the provision of hijab emphasizes the importance of hijab as a symbol of obedience and religious identity that must be maintained by every Muslim woman. It is hoped that this research will be able to become a pivot to be studied further and in depth for further researchers.

Abstract

One of the Qur'an manuscripts from the 20th century is the written version (mushḥaf) KH. Abdul Hamid Chasbullah. The mushḥaf is evidence of the historical heritage of the ulama of Nusantara who have special attention in the field of copying the Qur'an manuscripts. In this study, the author will examine the general description of the mushḥaf and the characteristics of the rasm by referring to the rules of Sheikh Jalal Al-din Al-Suyuthi in the book Al-Itqan fi Ulum Qur'an. The method that the author uses is qualitative research that leads to library research, by using observation tools, interviews, and documentation of the manuscript. The findings of this study are first, this mushḥaf is kept intact (not scattered) although some sheets have been lost and eaten by termites. This 32.3 x 21 x 7.5(cm) mushḥaf was written for the personal use of the copyist. It can be seen that there aren’t illustration and illumination aspects. Second, from the analysis of surah Al-Baqarah juz 2, the copying of this mushḥaf still adheres to the basics of mixed rules between the rasm utsmani and imla'i. Likewise, in terms of qira'at, this mushḥaf mostly uses the history of Imam Hafs 'an Ashim, but some words use mixed history.
