Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to examine the use of Reading Log to build Lao’s junior student’s English literacy and related to the Reading Log as a useful literacy practice that can build the student’s English literacy that can promote parental involvement in student’ s English literacy, and the challenges in implementing Reading Log in SENGSAY school. The researcher used qualitative methodology to conduct this study by observation, interviews with teachers and some parents to find out how teachers conduct Reading Log to teach students and how Reading Log promote parental involvement.

Abstract

Abstract: The out-breaking of Pandemics Covid-19 which is affected to many countries and regions in the world in the term of education. This study uses a qualitative approach which is the type of research is Phenomenology (case study). This type of phenomenological research is used due to it is oriented to the topic of teaching-learning economics course of teachers and students in National University of Laos. The determination of this research subject with the Snowball Sampling technique and the data collection techniques with in-depth interview and documentation. The finding results of this research found that learning economics in National University of Laos is not directly affected and is still continuing lecture as normal classes (face to face) and it is followed the order of National Operation Center for Covid-19 (NOCC) committee to resumed regular education after the extension of the annual yearly holiday during the Lao New Year in April 2020. For learning via online application, it has been already approved for teaching-learning for example: Google Meet, Zoom, skype etc. in addition, the perception and preparation most of them are readiness 100% which is mean that lecturers and students are aware of how to implement of online learning application.Keywords: pandemics, learning process, economics learning, higher education

Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to determine the differences in attitudes of nationalism in terms of various types of extracurricular activities and the relationship between the intensity of extracurricular participation with students' attitudes of nationalism. This research was a comparative and correlational quantitative research The data collection technique used a questionnaire. The data analysis technique used normality test, difference test, regression test and correlation test. There is a significant difference in the attitude of nationalism in terms of various extracurricular activities due to the Sig. 0.014 or <0.05. The intensity data of participation in extracurricular activities has a value smaller than the respective r table, it is concluded that there is no relationship between the intensity of participation in extracurricular activities with the attitude of nationalism.Keywords: family background, extracurricular activities, student participation, attitude, nationalismAbstrak: Penelitian ini bertuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan sikap nasionalisme ditinjau dari berbagai jenis kegiatan ekstrakurikuler dan hubungan antara intensitas keikutsertaan ekstrakurikuler dengan sikap nasionalisme siswa. Penelitian ini berjenis penelitian kuantitatif komparatif dan korelasional. Dengan sampel sebanyak 355 siswa di 7 SMA Negeri Kota Malang. Data diambil menggunakan kuesioner. Analisis data yang digunakan adalah uji normalitas, uji beda, uji regresi dan uji korelasi. Terdapat perbedaan secara signifikan sikap nasionalisme ditinjau dari berbagai macam kegiatan ekstrakurikuler dikarenakan nilai Sig. Sebesar 0,014 atau <0,05. Data intensitas keikutsertaan dalam kegiatan ekstrakurikuler mempunyai nilai lebih kecil dari r tabel masing-masing, disimpulkan bahwa tidak terdapat hubungan antara intensitas keikutsertaan dalam kegiatan ekstrakurikuler dengan sikap nasionalisme.Kata kunci: latar belakang keluarga, aktifitas ekstrakurikular, partisipasi siswa, sikap, nasionalisme

Abstract

Abstract: Code-switching (switching in-and-out from one language to another) has been an international debate whether it is a simply language avoidance or a communication strategy. It is thus crucial to see in what way and in what situations students made use code-switching in the classroom. The study was conducted in an English Medium Instruction at vocational tertiary level in East Java, Indonesia involving six students in the classroom observation and semi-structured interview in three content-subject classrooms. This study reported that students’ code-switching functioned for transmitting information to their peers, managing their interaction and building interpersonal relations. This study argues that code-switching is not merely done due to a language deficiency rather is an intentional strategy to make a meaningful communication. Students’ code-switching also showed a collectivist behaviour among the participants when their switching into a particular language for showing solidarity and concern to their peers.  Key Words: students’ code-switching; international program; vocational higher education; Indonesia Abstrak: Alih kode atau yang disebut peralihan bahasa satu telah menjadi perdebatan untuk membuktikan apakah alih kode ini merupakan pengalihan karena ketidakpampuan dalam berbahasa ataukah strategi dalam berkomunikasi. Sangat penting untuk mengkaji dengan cara apa dan dalam situasi apa siswa menggunakan alih kode di dalam kelas. Penelitian ini dilakukan di kelas bilingual pada satu perguruan tinggi vokasi di Jawa Timur, Indonesia dengan melibatkan enam mahasiswa untuk observasi di kelas dan wawancara semi-terstruktur di tiga kelas bilingual. Studi ini melaporkan bahwa alih kode mahasiswa berfungsi untuk bertukar informasi dengan teman sebayanya, melakukan interaksi diantara mereka dan menjalin hubungan interpersonal. Temuan studi ini menunjukkan bahwa alih kode tidak semata-mata dilakukan karena keterbatasan dalam berbahasa, melainkan merupakan strategi dalam berkomunikasi. Penelitian ini melaporkan bahwa alih kode yang dilakukan mahasiswa juga menunjukkan perilaku kolektivis di antara mereka. Menariknya alih kode tertentu dilakukan untuk menunjukkan solidaritas dan kepedulian kepada teman sejawat mereka.Kata Kunci: alih kode mahasiswa; program internasional; perguruan tinggi vokasi; Indonesia

Abstract

Abstract: This qualitative survey study investigated the students’ perspectives on the emerging factors of anxiety and enjoyment during ESP class of non-English department students. This study involved 35 freshmen of non-English department study program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang who were joining ESP class. The most frequent causes of FLA based on the students’ perception were being afraid that their utterances are not understandable, their own concern on their pronunciation and accent and thoughts that others can speak better than they do. For FLE, the excellent atmosphere created by the teachers was most considered by the students to contribute to their enjoyment in class. Keywords: anxiety, enjoyment, ESP, FLA, FLEAbstrak: Penelitian yang menggunakan metode survey kualitatif ini menggali tentang perspektif mahasiswa di luar jurusan Bahasa Inggris tentang kecemasan (FLA) dan perasaan senang (FLE) dalam mengikuti kelas ESP. Penelitian ini melibatkan 35 mahasiswa yang bukan jurusan Bahasa Inggris di Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang yang mengikuti kelas ESP. Penyebab FLA yang paling sering terjadi berdasarkan persepsi mahasiswa adalah ketakutan bahwa ucapan mereka tidak dapat dimengerti, rasa cemas pribadi terhadap pengucapan dan aksen mereka serta pemikiran bahwa orang lain dapat berbicara lebih baik daripada mereka. Untuk FLE, suasana baik yang diciptakan oleh para guru menjadi sebuah perhatian khusus yang dirasa oleh para mahasiswa untuk menambah rasa senang mereka di kelas.Kata kunci: kecemasan, kesenangan, ESP, FLA, FLE

Abstract

Abstract: The aim of this study is to describe students’ willingness to communicate in English through virtual classroom during Covids-19 Pandemic. This study used descriptive qualitative research design, conducted at SMK Negeri 8 Malang. Data collection methods were obtained from students’ responses on questionnaires and compiled with transcripts of the virtual interview result. The finding showed the students preferred to communicate in English written rather than English spoken.Keywords: student's willingness, English communication, virtual classroomAbstrak: Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan kesiapan para siswa untuk berkomunikasi menggunakan bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain kualitatif deskriptif yang telah dilakukan di satuan pendidikan SMK Negeri 8 Malang. Adapun pengambilan data dilakukan berdasarkan hasil tanggapan para siswa dalam mengisi kuisioner dan dikonfirmasikan dengan hasil wawancara antara peneliti dengan siswa yang terlibat dalam penelitian ini. Abstract

Abstract: This research aims to determine the form of Indonesian passive sentence in the essays of foreign students from America in beginner-level. The form of the passive sentence in the essay is analyzed based on the formation of the verb that fills the predicate function in the sentence. The approach used in this research is a qualitative approach with the type of text analysis research. The data in this study are in the form of passive sentences contained in the essays of foreign students from America in beginner-level. The data analysis technique in this study was carried out in 3 (three) stages, namely data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. From the results of this study, 62 data were obtained showing 4 (four) forms of passive sentences, namely (1) passive sentences predicated on verbs formed by di-, (2) passive sentences with predicated verbs formed by ter-, (3) passive sentences with predicated verbs formed by personal pronouns., and (4) passive sentences with predicated verbs formed by names.Keywords: passive sentence, passive verb form, BIPA for beginner, foreign studentsAbstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bentuk kalimat pasif bahasa Indonesia dalam karangan mahasiswa asing level pemula asal Amerika. Bentuk kalimat pasif dalam karangan dianalisis berdasarkan bentukan verba yang mengisi fungsi predikat dalam kalimat. Pendekatan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah pendekatan kualitatif dengan jenis penelitian analisis teks. Data dalam penelitian ini berupa kalimat pasif yang terdapat dalam karangan mahasiswa asing level pemula asal Amerika. Teknik analisis data pada penelitian ini dilakukan dalam 3 (tiga) tahap, yakni reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan simpulan. Dari hasil penelitian ini diperoleh  62 data yang menunjukkan 4 (empat) bentuk kalimat pasif, yakni (1) kalimat pasif berpredikat verba bentukan di-, (2) kalimat pasif berpredikat verba bentukan ter-, (3) kalimat pasif berpredikat verba bentukan pronomina persona, dan (4) kalimat pasif berpredikat verba bentukan nama.Keywords: kalimat pasif, verba pasif, BIPA level pemula, mahasiswa asing

Abstract

Abstract: Education has changed intensely whereby teaching is undertaken remotely and on digital platforms. Challenges risen among the teachers to face the shifting mode of teaching from conventional to online activities. Hence, selecting the right strategy is needed to support the teaching activities. This research employed a multiple case study to determine how EFL teachers implemented strategies in teaching four language skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) during online learning. Three tools were applied in this research: Field Note, Interview and Archival Record Documents.Keywords: teaching strategy, language skill, online learningAbstrak: Pendidikan telah berubah secara dramatis dimana pengajaran dilakukan dari jarak jauh dan pada platform digital. Tantangan muncul di kalangan guru untuk menghadapi pergeseran mode pengajaran dari konvensional ke kegiatan daring. Oleh karena itu, pemilihan strategi yang tepat sangat diperlukan untuk mendukung kegiatan pengajaran. Penelitian ini menggunakan beberapa studi kasus untuk menentukan bagaimana guru EFL menerapkan strategi dalam mengajar empat keterampilan bahasa (berbicara, mendengarkan, membaca, dan menulis) selama pembelajaran daring. Abstract

Abstract: This research aims to prove the effectiveness of visual media to improve self-development skills in children with mild visual impairment. The ability to do self-development is still low, so training requires a structured defense approach with visual media in picture cards. The research method used in this study is a class action. The class-action study intended by researchers is a group of children in the guesthouse Bhakti Luhur Malang Foundation in 4 children who have a mild visual impairment. The purpose of this study is the improvement and change in achieving more optimal results. The results showed an increase in scores. In the first cycle, the performance test results scored 62.5% and observation results of 60.2%. In the second cycle, the child's ability to inside by achieving a score of 77.7% and observation results of 79 %. Thus, it shows that a structured learning approach with visual media can increase self-development in lightly visually impaired children. Keywords: structured learning approach, visual media, self-development skills, lightly visually impaired children Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuktikan efektivitas media visual dalam meningkatkan keterampilan pengembangan diri pada anak tunanetra ringan. Kemampuan dalam melakukan pengembangan diri masih rendah, sehingga pelatihan memerlukan pendekatan pertahanan terstruktur dengan media visual dalam kartu bergambar. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah tindakan kelas. Penelitian tindakan kelas yang dimaksud peneliti adalah sekelompok anak di Wisma Yayasan Bhakti Luhur Malang pada 4 anak yang memiliki gangguan penglihatan ringan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah perbaikan dan perubahan dalam mencapai hasil yang lebih optimal. Hasilnya menunjukkan peningkatan skor. Pada siklus I, hasil tes kinerja mendapat skor 62,5% dan hasil observasi 60,2%. Pada siklus II kemampuan anak dalam dengan mencapai skor 77,7% dan hasil observasi 79%. Dengan demikian menunjukkan bahwa pendekatan pembelajaran terstruktur dengan media visual dapat meningkatkan pengembangan diri pada anak tunanetra ringan.Kata kunci: pendekatan pembelajaran terstruktur, media visual, keterampilan pengembangan diri, anak tunanetra ringan

Abstract

Abstract: One of the consequences of obstacles to the hearing ability of deaf children is the difficulty of receiving and understanding verbal or audio learning materials. So the teacher needs to modify the way of delivering material to children by developing visual learning media, namely interactive multimedia. This research was conducted to determine the effectiveness of the development of interactive multimedia that can positively influence the learning outcomes of deaf students at the elementary school level. The research was conducted through a literacy study through Google Scholar with the keyword "the influence of interactive multimedia development for deaf students at the elementary school level," with a range of articles selected from 2015-2021. Based on the literacy study conducted, it was found that various applications were used to develop learning media in the form of interactive multimedia applications for deaf students. However, several interactive multimedias had not been applied to deaf students so that the effect of interactive multimedia on the learning outcomes of deaf students was unknown.Keywords: interactive multimedia, deaf, elementary school Abstrak: Salah satu akibat terhambatnya kemampuan mendengar anak tunarungu adalah sulitnya menerima dan memahami materi pembelajaran verbal atau audio. Sehingga guru perlu memodifikasi cara penyampaian materi kepada anak dengan mengembangkan media pembelajaran visual yaitu multimedia interaktif. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui keefektifan pengembangan multimedia interaktif yang dapat berpengaruh positif terhadap hasil belajar siswa tunarungu tingkat sekolah dasar. Penelitian dilakukan melalui studi literasi melalui Google Scholar dengan kata kunci “Pengaruh Pengembangan Multimedia Interaktif Bagi Siswa Tuna Rungu Tingkat Sekolah Dasar”, dengan rentang artikel yang dipilih dari tahun 2015-2021. Berdasarkan studi literasi yang dilakukan, ditemukan berbagai aplikasi yang digunakan untuk mengembangkan media pembelajaran berupa aplikasi multimedia interaktif untuk siswa tunarungu. Namun beberapa multimedia interaktif belum diterapkan pada siswa tunarungu sehingga belum diketahui pengaruh multimedia interaktif terhadap hasil belajar siswa tunarungu.Kata kunci: multimedia interaktif, tunarungu, sekolah dasar
