Abstract

The aim of this study was to gather empirical evidence regarding the impact of the chain writing method on students' ability to write procedure texts. This research followed a quantitative approach and employed a quasi-experimental design. The participants were 11th-grade students from SMAN 1 Air Batu during the 2024/2025 academic year. The study included both an experimental group and a control group, with each group comprising 36 students. The experimental group was taught using the chain writing method, while the control group was instructed using the teacher’s traditional method. The data collection instrument consisted of pre- and post-tests. The results showed that the experimental group had a post-test mean score of 86.8, while the control group’s mean score was 73.8. Statistical analysis using an independent t-test revealed that at a 5% significance level (α = 0.05), the calculated t-value was 4.18, which was greater than the critical t-value of 1.667 (with degrees of freedom 70). Therefore, the research was successful, confirming the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (Ha), which indicated that the chain writing method is effective for teaching procedure texts, and the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. Abstract

This research aimed to investigate the effect of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model on students’ reading comprehension in descriptive texts among grade XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Sei Kepayang in the academic year 2024/2025. The study employed a quantitative experimental method with a pre-test and post-test design. The population consisted of 89 students, and a sample of 58 students was selected using random sampling, divided into two groups: an experimental group taught using the PBL model and a control group taught using a conventional modelThis research found that using Problem Based Learning Model has significant effect in reading comprehension. It can be proved by the result that tscore = 6,3 was higher than the ttable = 1,673 with the significant 0,05 or it can be understood as tscore > ttable (5%) = 6,3 1,673. So, Ha is accepted. Statistical analysis using a t-test indicated that the PBL model had a significant positive effect on students’ reading comprehension. The findings suggest that the PBL model is an effective instructional approach to enhance students’ understanding of descriptive texts, fostering active learning, critical thinking, and deeper engagement with reading materials.

Abstract

This study investigates the effect of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model on students' ability in narrative reading at Grade XI of SMA Negeri 1 Sei Kepayang during the 2024/2025 academic year. The research employed an experimental design with two groups: an experimental group taught using the PBL model and a control group taught using conventional methods. Data were collected through pre-tests and post-tests to assess students’ narrative reading skills. The findings showed that students in the experimental group demonstrated a significant improvement in reading comprehension, particularly in identifying main ideas and understanding narrative structures. The mean post-test score of the experimental group was higher than that of the control group, indicating that the PBL model effectively enhances students’ engagement, motivation, and reading achievement. The results indicated a significant improvement in the experimental group’s narrative reading skills, with a mean post-test score of 78.27 compared to the control group's 57.58. A t-test was conducted to determine the statistical significance of the difference, and the result showed that t-count > t-table, thus the null hypothesis (Ho), which states that there is no effect of the PBL model on students' narrative reading ability, was rejected. The study concludes that the PBL model positively influences students' narrative reading skills and suggests its broader application in English language teaching.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the effect of Problem Based Learning (PBL) Model and Educaplay Media on student's Vocabulary Mastery at grade X of SMA Negeri 2 Kisaran in 2024/2025 academic year. Using a quantitative method with a pre-test and post-test experimental design, this research involves the students in class X-1 and X-2 who are selected through a random sampling technique. Student's Vocabulary Mastery was assessed through pre-test and post-test results to determine the effectiveness of the PBL model and Educaplay Media in improving their understanding Vocabulary. The results show a significant increase in Vocabulary Mastery, with an average score increase of 9,2% in one group and 16.2% in the other group. Data analysis using the t-test revealed that the increase was significant, as evidenced by the t-scores value exceeding the critical value at the 0,05 significance level. With degrees of freedom (df) 70 and a significance level of 0,05, the t-scores value was obtained of 8,54 which was greater than the t-table, which was 1,667 (8,54 > 1,667). These results indicated that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted, which confirms the effectiveness of the PBL model and Educaplay Media in improving student's Vocabulary Mastery.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to assess whether the project-based learning model has an impact on ability of students to write recount texts in grade X at SMK N 1 Sei Kepayang Pusat Keunggulan in 2024/2025 academic year. This research employs quasi experimental design, which includes two groups: a control group and an experimental group. The population consists of all grade X students, divided into five classes. The sample for this research includes two classes (X RPL and X TSM 1), selected through simple random sampling. X RPL serves as the experimental group, that is taught using project-based learning model, while X TSM 1 is the control group, taught using conventional model. After completing the learning process, a post-test is administered, revealing an average score of 84.34 for the experimental group and 77.17 for the control group. The t-test result shows T = 3.19, which is greater than the critical value of T-table = 2.02, thus confirming that Ha is accepted. Consequently, it is concluded that the project-based learning model has a significant effect on students’ ability to write recount texts in grade X at SMK N 1 Sei Kepayang Pusat Keunggulan.
