Abstract

This community service activity aims to improve children's literature learning in kindergarten students through the use of audio-visual media. This activity was carried out at Tunas Ceria Trimoharjo Kindergarten involving students and teachers. The method of this activity includes teacher training in utilizing and using audio-visual media, mentoring the implementation of the use of media in literature learning, and evaluating student involvement and understanding. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in student interest in learning literature, understanding of story content, retelling skills, creativity in expression, and involvement in discussions. The use of audio-visual media has been proven to increase student interest in the learning process, improving student understanding in appreciating literary works. The use of audio-visual media is a technology-based learning medium that requires supporting facilities such as projectors, speakers, and laptops so that the learning process can run well.

Abstract

The Community Service Program titled Strengthening Speaking and Literacy Skills through Storytelling of the Legend of Lake Toba in Kota Tanah Village was implemented to address the issue of low basic literacy skills among children, particularly in reading comprehension and speaking abilities. Initial observations revealed weaknesses in understanding reading materials and conveying information orally. As a solution, the service team conducted a storytelling program using an interactive approach. The results of the activity showed significant improvement in several aspects. Students who could speak fluently, expressively, with clear intonation, demonstrated deep understanding of the story, and showed high confidence received scores ranging from 90–100 (excellent). Students who spoke fairly fluently and expressively, understood the story, and showed enthusiasm during the storytelling activity received scores between 80–89 (good). Students who were able to tell stories with proper structure but still showed hesitation or minor errors in vocabulary and pronunciation received scores between 70–79 (fair). Students who lacked confidence, often paused while telling stories, and had limited understanding of the story received scores between 60–69 (poor). Meanwhile, students who could not tell stories clearly, did not understand the story content, and showed insufficient effort received scores below 60 (very poor).

Abstract

The community service program aims to empower the women of the PKK group in Tlogoanyar Village, Lamongan Regency, through the utilization of Oreochromis niloticus fish scale waste into collagen-based body scrub products. The program focuses on three main aspects: production, business management, and digital marketing. The background problem identified includes the underutilization of fish waste with high collagen content, limited technical knowledge in hygienic production, lack of business management capability, and absence of product branding and digital marketing skills. Through this program, a comprehensive empowerment model was implemented combining training, technology adoption, and mentoring for sustainable women-led entrepreneurship. The applied methods consist of socialization, technical training on collagen extraction and formulation of natural scrub products, managerial workshops on micro-enterprise management, and digital marketing training for social media and marketplace engagement. The program also facilitated equipment provision and business legality registration (NIB, P-IRT). The outcomes include: the establishment of a community-based micro business group, production of collagen scrub products, standard operating procedures (SOPs) for production and sanitation, product branding and packaging designs, and the creation of online marketing channels (Shopee and Instagram). The economic impact is reflected in the increased household income of PKK members and reduced organic waste in the community. Socially, it strengthens women's participation and gender equality in local economic development. This initiative demonstrates how local resources and simple technology can be transformed into innovative products with economic and environmental value, supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1, 5, 8, and 12 through inclusive and sustainable community empowerment.

Abstract

This community engagement program aims to empower the Perwakos Community (Persatuan Waria Kota Surabaya), a transgender community in Surabaya, by strengthening their financial literacy and facilitating the development of a structured community business plan. Initial assessments revealed two critical challenges faced by the community: limited financial management skills at both individual and collective levels, and the absence of a formal business plan to guide potential economic initiatives. To address these issues, the project introduced two tailored knowledge-based interventions: a Financial Literacy Module and a Community Business Plan Template. The program was implemented through three key stages: program socialization, capacity-building workshops, and follow-up mentoring. Training sessions focused on basic financial management—including budgeting, cash flow recording, and expenditure planning—and on constructing a feasible business plan appropriate to the community’s economic potential. Post-training mentoring demonstrated significant improvements, with participants beginning to apply systematic financial recording practices and producing a draft community business plan that reflects their developing entrepreneurial understanding. The project showcases the effectiveness of context-sensitive, non-digital knowledge tools in supporting marginalized communities toward greater economic autonomy.

Abstract

Guidance and counseling (GC or BK in Bahasa Indonesia) services play a strategic role in assisting students in dealing with personal, social, academic, and career-related problems. However, at MA Raudlatul Ulum Sumberanyar, GC services have not been implemented systematically and tend to be replaced by punitive approaches for students who violate school rules. This condition indicates the need to strengthen responsive services through structured mentoring so that the school can establish a GC program foundation that is well-organized and aligned with students’ developmental needs. This mentoring-based study employed a descriptive qualitative method using observation, interviews, direct mentoring, and documentation techniques. The mentoring focused on three forms of responsive services: individual counseling, group counseling, and classical guidance accompanied by social skills training based on collaborative activities. The mentoring activities were conducted to identify students’ main problems and to provide initial interventions relevant to the school context. The results of the mentoring revealed three key findings: (1) low student learning motivation, (2) weak discipline and compliance with school regulations, and (3) the absence of a competent guidance and counseling teacher capable of professionally addressing students’ developmental needs. The mentoring process had a positive impact by increasing students’ understanding of GC services, generating alternative solutions to issues of motivation and discipline, and producing recommendations for the provision of more effective GC services. In conclusion, mentoring the GC program within responsive services at MA Raudlatul Ulum has provided an important foundation for the development of more structured counseling services. The school needs to take follow-up steps by strengthening GC policies and preparing qualified counselors so that responsive services can be implemented sustainably.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has influenced children’s learning patterns and information consumption, including within non-formal religious education settings such as Taman Pendidikan Al-Qur’an (TPQ). Although digital media have the potential to serve as educational tools, risks such as exposure to inappropriate content, excessive gadget use, and declining learning focus necessitate structured and targeted mentoring. This community service activity aims to enhance TPQ students’ media literacy and to strengthen teachers’ capacity to utilize media as educational resources through an Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach. The program was implemented at TPQ Baitul Halim Babatan Wiyung, Surabaya, involving approximately 30 students and three teachers. The stages of the activity included community asset mapping (discovery), formulation of shared aspirations (dream), design of mentoring modules and training programs (design), implementation of media literacy education for students and technical guidance for teachers (define/destiny), and program evaluation through reflective activities (reflection). The results indicate an improvement in students’ understanding of ethical media use, their ability to identify educational and safe content, and the emergence of basic critical attitudes toward digital information. TPQ teachers (Ustadz and Ustadzah) also demonstrated enhanced competence in selecting and integrating educational media into the learning process. This program contributes to the establishment of a positive, character-based media literacy culture grounded in Islamic values within the TPQ environment and has the potential to be developed as a sustainable mentoring model in non-formal education.

Abstract

This community engagement program aims to empower students through an Arabic literacy enhancement model implemented at MA Mathla’ul Anwar Telukambulu, Batujaya, Karawang. The main problems identified include low reading comprehension, limited vocabulary mastery, and the absence of sustainable literacy culture among students. The mentoring strategy involved workshops for teachers, development of literacy modules, classroom mentoring, student literacy projects, and creative media integration. The implementation demonstrated significant improvements in students’ reading ability (38%), writing accuracy (41%), and vocabulary acquisition (25–35 new words per student). The program also produced creative outputs such as Arabic literacy corners, vocabulary posters, and student-made Arabic mini anthologies. This study concludes that Arabic literacy-based empowerment contributes effectively to enhancing student competency and fostering a sustainable literacy culture within the madrasah environment.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to improve adolescents’ ability to use polite Indonesian in communication through the WhatsApp application by applying a linguistic approach. The background of this activity is the increasing use of informal language, excessive abbreviations, and impolite expressions in adolescents’ digital conversations. The implementation method involves participatory training, including the delivery of linguistic materials, interactive discussions, and hands-on practice in analyzing and revising WhatsApp conversation samples. The training materials focus on understanding language politeness, appropriate word choice, sentence structure, and contextual language use in digital communication. The results indicate an improvement in adolescents’ awareness and understanding of the importance of using polite and context-appropriate Indonesian. Participants were able to distinguish between formal and informal language varieties and apply them appropriately in WhatsApp communication. This activity contributes positively to the development of polite language attitudes while strengthening the role of applied linguistics in fostering Indonesian language use among adolescents.

Abstract

Strengthening religious character in elementary school-aged children is a fundamental aspect in shaping their personality, morals, and social attitudes from an early age. This community service program aims to share knowledge and implement methods for strengthening religious character in students at the Raudatussalam Kindergarten (TPA) and identify supporting factors and obstacles encountered in its implementation. The results of the activity indicate that strengthening religious character in the Raudatussalam Kindergarten is implemented through the inculcation of religious values ??in daily school activities, teachers' exemplary religious behavior, and the integration of religious values ??into the learning process and non-academic activities. Key supporting factors include educator commitment, a conducive TPA environment, and parental involvement in student character development. Obstacles identified include limited learning time and differences in students' religious backgrounds. In this implementation process, strengthening religious character can be effective if it is carried out consistently and integrated between the school, family, and social environment.

Abstract

The management of Public Street Lighting (LPJU) at the Department of Transportation of Kudus Regency still faces challenges in data collection, monitoring, and reporting that are not yet systematically integrated. This community service activity aims to improve employees’ understanding through training on the use of a web-based LPJU management information system. The method used was a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental one group pretest–posttest design. The results showed an increase in participants’ understanding, indicated by the average pretest score of 61.8 which increased to 83.4 in the posttest. In addition, the Likert scale questionnaire results indicated that the system had good acceptance in terms of ease of use, data management efficiency, and system usefulness. Therefore, the web-based LPJU information system is considered effective in supporting more efficient and structured street lighting data management.
