Abstract

This study aims to reveal the effects of using the wildlife monograph Varanus salvator on the conceptual understanding of urban students. This type of research is a quasi-experimental, one-group pre-test, and post-test design. The sample of this study was students at private universities in the Jember Regency, Indonesia who took the Vertebrate Zoology course in the even semester of the 2019/2020 academic year with total of 27 students. This research was conducted because of the findings from previous research that in private universities, books from the research results are still needed, especially those that discuss examples of wildlife species as a learning resource for Vertebrate Zoology course, especially in the reptile class. The research data were analysed using the class average normalized Gain score (N-gain score). The analysis results showed that the N-gain score was an average class of 0.71, which means that it was greater than the N-gain score of 0.7, in other words, g> 0.7. This means that the effect of using the wildlife monograph book V. salvatory on learning the Vertebrate Zoology Course is at high stage criteria. In addition, it was also informed that the results of the normalized average individual gain analysis (individual N-gain score), it was found that g> 0.7 was 11 students with high criteria, 0.3> g ≥ 0.7, a total of 16 students with medium criteria, and no students found g ≤ 0.3. This informs that the V. salvatory monograph can realize the conceptual understanding of the topic of lizards in urban students.

Abstract

Covid-19 outbreak has already created such big changes in education all over the world. However, rapid response improvement is needed to overcome the reality. One of the improvements is using Project Based Learning (PBL) which ensured that students can still become active and enthusiastic during remote learning. PBL implementation can be done using collaborative technique, which empirically proven to have better result. This research took place in Information System Study Program at Universitas Ma Chung Malang, in course which includes laboratory activity (in this case is Programming Language course). This implementation then being measured using focus group discussion (FGD), which gather and interviewing random sampling to evaluate its effectiveness and being held twice in one semester, thus it can review and repair the implementation during half semester. This research should give generic prescription as its result for other lecturers who has difficulties in improving remote learning process during Covid-19 outbreak or post outbreak. After evaluating the implementation with three main topics (development of students, collaboration aspect, and professional development) from random sampling students, there are some improvements to made, which are: (1) lecturer become more active involved, (2) invite professional to give guest lecturer, (3) encourage about the importance of teamwork, and (4) giving reward and penalty.

Abstract

Patient safety is the main point to consider and promote in every health service at various levels of health facilities. It is highly prominent for students, especially clinical clerkships, as future doctors. Currently, the use of educational video is a popular learning medium for students. Yet, no research reveals how clinical clerkships are exposed to patient safety after learning through videos before taking education at teaching hospitals. The current study aimed to describe the learning outcomes of patient safety education videos in clinical clerkships. It employed a descriptive-analytic method. Twenty-three clinical clerkships studied the videos about patient safety and filled out questions associated with patient safety. The average score of the learning outcomes of the patient safety videos was 84.64. The scores ranged from 60 to 100, and the median was 86.66. The answers with the lowest scores were questions about patient safety goals and the accuracy of patient identification. The aspects of knowledge about drug allergy, hand hygiene, reduction in inpatient fall, and identification of blood transfusions were answered correctly by all participants. The outcomes of the clinical clerkship learning are still varied. Further research is required to compare learning outcomes before and after studying educational videos with a broader domain.
