Abstract

Abstrak: Artikel ini adalah laporan kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat yang bertujuan untuk mengembangkan keterampilan guru dalam menginovasi pembelajaran dengan Blended Learning, pendekatan yang digunakan praktek, diskusi, presentasi, dan refleksi.   Peserta berjumlah 64 orang, terdiri atas guru SMA berbagai bidang studi, laboran, kepala sekolah dan wakilnya.. Pasca pelatihan tatap muka, penugasan membuat rancangan pembelajaran dilanjutkan secara online. Melalui kuesioner, peserta menyatakan bahwa pelatihan Blended Learning memberi mereka wawasan baru tentang Blended Learning yang sangat bermanfaat, dan sesuai dengan kebutuhan mereka. Berdasarkan hasil refleksi dan kuesioner, peserta memerlukan program tindak lanjut dan menyarankan penyelenggaraan pelatihan Blended Learning lanjutan dengan waktu yang lebih memadai serta disediakan modul sebagai pegangan belajar mandiri.Abstract: This article is a report on community service activities aimed at developing teacher skills in innovating learning with Blended Learning, approaches used in practice, discussion, presentation, and reflection. There were 64 participants, consisting of high school teachers in various fields of study, laboratory assistants, school principals and their representatives. After face-to-face training, the assignment of making learning plans was continued online. Through the questionnaire, participants stated that the Blended Learning training gave them new insights about Blended Learning that were very useful, and suited their needs. Based on the results of reflections and questionnaires, participants need a follow-up program and suggest the implementation of Blended Learning training with more adequate time and modules provided as a guide for independent learning.

Abstract

One of the most important things in learning English as a second language is pronunciation. Having good pronunciation can lead to a successful Speech communication. However, many students find it difficult in learning pronunciation. Many studies have already been conducted to dig in the difficulties and try to overcome the issue. In fact, there are still many students who have good pronunciation, yet not many researchers have conducted studies on how to dig in the factors contributing to it. This study aims at finding the factors that may contribute to the students’ good English pronunciation by applying a descriptive qualitative research design. Some instruments were used in collecting the data such as a pronunciation test, an observation checklist, a field note, and an interview guide. This study found that there were four big factors that contributed to the students’ English pronunciation: education, exposure, environment, and motivation. Each factor has made a powerful contribution to the subjects’ English pronunciation such as applying a reflective practice method, providing a lot of input about English, providing supportive family and friend, and providing a strong motivation to reach something. This study suggests that future researcher might use the pronunciation test with categorization of words in it.

Abstract

Technology has been widely used in the education field, especially for teaching language. Many teachers and students believe in the advantages of technology to enhance language learning. There have been many studies investigating the use of technology in secondary language classrooms. Some studies approve that technology can be applied to increase students' language competence. This paper comprehensively analysed the use of technology for English language teaching in the secondary level based on empirical studies. It reviews 57 articles from reputable journals and publishers. The existing literature shows that studying and reviewing the use of technology in ELT leads to a deeper understanding of its potential benefits. Many technology tools have been utilized to support the teaching of English skills. Kinds of learning activities that require technological tools and applications, such as presentation, discussion, assessment are also discussed. Additionally, problems and solutions encountered in the implementation of technology in secondary ELT levels are scrutinized in this study. HIGHLIGTS: Scholars need to set the content and pedagogy first before the technology to obtain meaningful and contextual experiments and discussion in academic circumstances. The finding unveils a fact that technology use in the ELT context contributes more to students' learning strategies, such as learning motivation, engagement, collaborative work, rather than the improvement of students' learning outcomes. This finding can be a rationale to rectify the common logical fallacy encountered among studies that claimed that technology can improve particular language skill.

Abstract

Abstract: This quasi-experimental study aimed to find out the effect of the implementation of flipped classroom on ELE students’ reading comprehension and also observe their perception towards flipping. The findings of this study revealed that the difference in reading comprehension between students taught by using flipped classroom and those taught by using traditional classroom was significant. It was also found that the students in the experimental group have positive perception toward the use of flipped classroom teaching model. This implied that this technique could be applied effectively to teach reading comprehension for ELE students.Keywords: flipped classroom, reading comprehension, perceptionAbstrak: Penelitian quasi-experimental ini bertujuan untuk melihat pengaruh penerapan flipped classroom terhadap pemahaman membaca mahasiswa pendidikan bahasa Inggris (PBI) dan juga untuk mengamati persepsi mereka terhadap teknik tersebut. Hasil penelitian ini mengungkapkan bahwa ada perbedaan yang signifikan  pada pemahaman membaca mahasiswa antara mahasiswa yang diajar dengan menggunakan flipped classroom dan mahasiswa yang diajar secara tradisional. Ditemukan juga bahwa mahasiswa pada kelompok eksprimen memiliki persepsi positif terhadap penggunaan model pembelajaran flipped classroom. Ini menyiratkan bahwa   teknik ini dapat diterapkan secara efektif untuk mengajarkan pemahaman membaca mahasiswa PBI.Kata kunci: flipped classroom, pemahaman membaca, persepsi

Abstract

Abstract: This study investigated the students’ and teacher’s perception, as well as, the merits and demerits of implementing ProWritingAid and teacher feedback in class. The design of this study was a survey research directed in an exclusive classroom setting. Based on the data analysis, it was found that both teacher and students perceived the strategy positively as it can help the students detect, learn, and fix their errors through ProWritingAid and revise their content through teacher feedback. It also helped the teacher in saving time and reduce the teacher’s workload.Abstrak: Penelitian ini menyelidiki persepsi siswa dan guru dalam penerapan metode pemberian umpan balik dari ProWritingAid dan guru di kelas. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah survei yang diarahkan pada satu kelas terntentu. Berdasarkan analisis data yang dikumpulkan, ditemukan bahwa baik guru dan siswa memiliki pandangan positif terhadap strategi yang digunakan. Penggunaan strategu dirasakan positif karena dapat membantu siswa mendeteksi, belajar, dan memperbaiki kesalahan mereka melalui ProWritingAid dan memperbaiki isi paragraf mereka melalui umpan balik guru. Strategi ini juga membantu menghemat waktu dan mengurangi beban kerja guru.

Abstract

Abstract: This quasi-experimental research tries to find out the effectiveness of KWL on student’s comprehension of expository text and also observe how effective KWL is on the reading comprehension of the students across reading anxiety level. It is found that the difference in reading comprehension between student taught by using KWL and those taught by using conventional way is significant, the reading activities offered by KWL steps were effective to facilitate students in enhancing their comprehension in reading, and thedifference between students with low reading anxiety and those with high reading anxiety taught by using KWL is significant as well.Abstrak: Penelitian quasi-experimental ini bertujuan untuk melihat efektivitas dari pengunaan strategy KWL terhadap pemahaman siswa dalam memahami teks ekspositori dan juga untuk melihat efektivitas KWL pada pemahaman siswa dengan tingkat anxiety yang berbeda. Ditemukan bahwa ada perbedaan signifikan pada pemahaman membaca siswa antara siwa yang diajar mengunakan KWL dan siswa yang diajar secara konvensional, aktivitas membaca pada KWL sangat efektif dalam memfasilitasi siswa untuk meningkatkan pemahaman mereka dalam membaca, ditemukan juga perbedaan yang signifikan diantara siswa yang memiliki low anxiety dengan high anxiety ketika KWL diterapkan.

Abstract

Abstract: This study is intended to describe challenges faced by English teachers in the Vocational High Schools of Agriculture during the implementation of 2013 Curriculum. This study used descriptive qualitative research design which was conducted at two Vocational High Schools of Agriculture in South Kalimantan. The result was devided into five items based on the research questions. The first was challenges in designing lesson plan. The second was challenges in the lesson implementation. The third was challenges in the learning assessment. The fourth was challenges in the classroom management practice. The last finding dealt with the implementation of professional development strategy.Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan tantangan-tantangan yang dihadapi oleh guru bahasa Inggris di SMK Pertanian selama implementasi Kurikulum 2013. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain kualitatif deskriptif yang dilaksanakan pada dua SMK Pertanian di Kalimanta Selatan. Hasil dari penelitian ini dibagi menjadi lima al berdasarkan pertanyaan penelitian. Pertama, tantangan-tantangan dalam penyusunan RPP. Kedua, tantangan-tantangan di dalam pelaksanaan pembelajaran. Ketiga, tantangan dalam evaluasi pembelajaran. Keempat, tantangan-tantangan dalam melaksanakan praktik manajemen kelas. Kelima, berkaitan dengan pelaksanaan strategi pengembangan profesionalisme guru.

Abstract

Abstract:  The growth of distance education provides an accessibility of teaching-and-learning-process involving the use of ICT. Hence, teachers’ competencies regarding the integration of ICT also one of the key success of teaching. Through TPACK, this study aims at investigating EFL teachers’ skills on technology integration and their preferable ICT based learning system amidst distance education. Moreover, this study also intends to analyze whether EFL teachers’ TPACK are significantly different in terms of teaching categories and gender. This survey study implicated 139 in-service EFL teacher in the city of Malang, East Java, Indonesia. The data were collected through questionnaire and analyzed by computing the frequency, ANOVA, and t-test. The finding revealed that the EFL teachers’ TPACK was decent. Furthermore, gender and teaching categories were not regarded as the factors that influenced EFL teachers’ TPACK. Lastly, Google Classroom was perceived as the most preferable ICT based learning system according to the teachers. Regarding the result of analysis, recommendation for teachers and educational stakeholders were also made in this study.Abstrak: Perkembangan Pendidikan Jarak Jauh (PJJ) menawarkan aksesibilitas proses belajar-mengajar yang sangat melibatkan penggunaan TIK. Karenanya, kompetensi guru terhadap integrasi TIK juga diangap sebagai salah satu kunci keberhasilan pembelajaran. Melalui TPACK, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menginvestigasi ketrampilan guru EFL terkait integrasi teknologi dan sistem pembelajaran berbasis TIK yang guru EFL gunakan saat Pembelajaran Jarak Jauh (PJJ). Selain itu, penelitian ini juga bermaksud untuk menganalisa perbedaan TPACK guru EFL berdasarkan kategori mengajar dan gender. Penelitian survei ini melibatkan 139 guru EFL di Kota Malang, Jawa Timur, Indonesia. Pengumpulan data dilakukan menggunakan kuesioner dan dianalisa dengan menghitung frekuensi jawaban responden, ANOVA, dan t-test. Hasil penlitian menunjukkan bahwa TPACK guru EFL baik. Kemudian, gender dan kategori mengajar bukanlah faktor yang membedakan TPACK guru EFL. Terakhir, Google Classroom merupakan media pembelajaran yang paling disukai oleh guru. Berdasarkan hasil analisa, rekomendasi untuk guru dan beberapa pihak terkait juga dibuat dalam penelitian ini.

Abstract

This article reports a case study that explored a teacher of a high school in Situbondo who is resistant to ICT integration in language instruction. The study started from the concern of a teacher who chose to resist ICT despite the importance and potentials of it in improving learner’s language skill. The study found that the variable of age has influenced other variables like the motivation to learn and the capability to operate ICT for teaching which lead to the preference of resisting and thus he keeps using the conventional teaching method. This variable is not thought to be the only influence to the resistance because it was further found that the teacher’s failure to fulfill the demand of his profession becomes more contributing to it. Therefore, it is suggested that English teachers are aware of the demands of their profession in order to stay on the track of professional teachers.Penelitian ini memaparkan hasil studi kasus terhadap seorang guru bahasa Inggris SMA di Situbondo yang resistan untuk menggunakan TIK di kelas. Berawal dari keprihatinan terhadap guru yang memilih untuk abai terhadap penggunaan TIK, terlepas dari penting dan berpotensinya TIK tersebut dalam meningkatkan keterampilan berbahasa siswa. Ditemukan bahwa variabel usia yang lanjut menjadi penyebab munculnya variabel lain seperti kurangnya motivasi belajar TIK dan rendahnya kemampuan menggunakannya yang berujung pada pilihannya untuk tidak menggunakan TIK di kelas sehingga tetap menggunakan metode mengajar konvensional. Variabel usia tersebut ternyata bukanlah pemicu utama sikap resistan tersebut, melainkan lemahnya kemampuan guru dalam memahami dan memenuhi tuntutan profesinya sebagai guru bahasa Inggris. Oleh karenanya, saran penelitian ditujukan pada guru agar lebih siap terhadap tuntutan dan tantangan lain dalam profesinya sehingga menjadi guru profesional.

Abstract

Abstract: This descriptive qualitative study is to investigate the patterns of the sources of stress and the pivotal aspects to become resilient experienced by junior high school teachers. Six teachers of junior high school in Malang who have been teaching for more than 10 years are involved. The data shows that there are six major challenges faced by the teachers namely pandemic, class management, fatigue manifestation, work-related stress, time management and curriculum and school administrator. Meanwhile, the significant points of resilience administered by the teachers in the face of difficult times are having positive personality, contructive support system and institutional support.Abstrak: Penelitian kualitatif deskriptif ini adalah untuk mengetahui pola sumber stres dan aspek penting untuk menjadi resilien yang dialami oleh guru SMP. Enam guru SMP di Malang yang telah mengajar lebih dari 10 tahun dilibatkan dalam penelitian ini. Data menunjukkan bahwa ada enam tantangan utama yang dihadapi guru yaitu pandemi, manajemen kelas, kelelahan, stres terkait pekerjaan, manajemen waktu dan kurikulum serta administrator sekolah. Sementara aspek untuk resiliensi yang dilakukan oleh partisipan dalam menghadapi masa-masa sulit adalah memiliki kepribadian yang positif, support system yang konstruktif serta dukungan institusional.
