Abstract

Reading is a language modality in which the sense of urgency is palpable despite the task difficulty. This study examined the hypotheses that CSR improves reading comprehension and fosters positive perceptions of the implementations. The result supported that using CSR produced levels of reading comprehension superior to conventional teaching instruction. The analysis of posttest among the groups revealed 5.56 greater effects for students in the experimental group. The t-test also reported that students had favorable impressions about CSR implementation. They recognized some reading strategies of CSR which assisted them at most in elevating comprehension.

Abstract

Augmented Reality (AR) in the study of phytochemical screening is a technology that combines observation of experimental results in phytochemical screening as virtual objects with real environments. This study aimed to develop interactive learning media for phytochemical screening materials in the Phytochemistry Practicum at the Pharmaceutical and Food Analysis Department of Poltekkes Kemenkes Jakarta II. This interactive learning media application using AR technology was applied to iOS-based smartphones and designed for phytochemistry learning in the laboratory. The methods used in this study were descriptive exploratory for phytochemistry analysis and Multi- Media Development Life Cycled (MDLC) for AR development. 3D objects were resulting from phytochemical screening of Simplicia powder studied by using blender application, with Unity as a game engine and Vuforia as a library. The development of AR technology resulted in iOS-based mobile application named AR Fitokimia that visualized the phytochemical screening results. The application would help improve students' understanding and participation in distance learning. An interactive AR mobile learning application for iOS-based smartphones was designed for the entire class with an iFamily device in handling distance learning of phytochemical screening in the laboratory.

Abstract

Learning is an activity between educators, students and learning resources. Appropriate learning has a major impact on students, such as developing creativity, critical thinking skills. The research was conducted using a quasi-experimental method at the Dharma Acarya Faculty of IAHN-TP Palangka Raya to finding out how the effectiveness of the SCL learning approach on learning outcomes and critical thinking skills. The study sample was 36 students as a control group and 39 people as an experimental group. The results of thinking skills test and learning outcomes of students using the TCL and SCL learning approaches were analyzed by statistical paired sample t test, where the thinking skills test score TCL = 59.13 compared to SCL = 74.84. Learning outcomes score with TCL = 53.10 compared to SCL 61.38. So that SCL learning is more effective than TCL learning on thinking skills and student learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study aims to present the use of Portfolios to develop independent learning and student understanding: forms, uses, and results. Portfolios can increase students’ understanding of lectures and foster student responsibility in completing a particular job. Researchers used a qualitative approach through observation, questionnaires, and documentation. The results of this study indicate that learning with portfolios in the form of summaries and concept maps is then presented in three languages, namely Arabic, English, and Indonesian in ten minutes for each language. By using a portfolio, students are not only independent and understand in learning but also practice language skills.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate effect of the Argument Driven Inquiry model on the scientific argumentation skills of 11th grade students in terms of goal orientation. A quasi-experimental research design is a 2 x 2 factorial. The study involved an experimental group (ADI) and a control group (Inquiry) each consisting of 34 students. Two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used for interpreting the data. Based on data analysis, there are differences in students’ scientific argumentation skills between the experimental and control group (sig. 0,011), but there is no significant difference in terms of goal orientation (sig. 0,267). There is no interaction between the learning model and goal orientation on the scientific argumentation skills of students one of the SMAN in Malang (sig. 0,819).

Abstract

Now that the spread of COVID-19 is still high and the teaching and learning process should be continued to be conducted at homes, but it seems that some teachers – in this case EYL teachers– are not ready to integrate various digital platforms. It is necessary for us to respond to the need of investigating technology readiness of English for young learners teachers in teaching during this COVID-19 pandemic. It is strongly important to reveal the teachers’ technology readiness as it plays vital role, especially during this pandemic —when the only thing that the teachers and the students can do is interacting online. Without having adequate literacy in technological thing, it is impossible to create teaching and learning process which can facilitate both the teachers and the students. Based on the result of initial survey, it could be stated that some teachers might not be ready in integrating the technology in their virtual classrooms; ending up in either providing lots of assignments or creating monotonous activities, which of course break the nature of teaching English for young learners. Hence, it is expected that by conducting this study, the researchers could assist some of the teachers to be more aware with their technology readiness, so that they could serve the students better, and the students could also learn the material more interesting and meaningful.
