Abstract

In developing students’ writing competency, teacher’s strategy and engagement in writing process is very crucial. The strategy of teaching writing should not only focus on language aspects but also should help the students in developing their critical thinking and problem solving skill. The current study investigated the effect of midful learning on students’ writing comptency. This study was an experiment study with posttest only control group design. 71 EFL students were involved in this study. In collecting the data, this study used writing competency test and rubric for assessing. The collected data were analzyed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The result of descprtive statistics showed that the mean score of writing competency of experiment group (82.25)  was higher than the control group (78.67). A significant mean difference is identified from the result of t test (Sig. .005.) The result of effect size test showed a medium effec (.68) t. Thus, it can be concluded that mindful learning significantly affects students’ writing competency. Discussions and suggestions are further presented.

Abstract

This study aims to improve science process skills and learning outcomes with Classroom Action Research using a jigsaw-type cooperative learning model. This research is a classroom action research conducted in two cycles. Learning outcomes before the results of the study using a jigsaw cooperative model is 33%. The results showed that an increase in student learning outcomes in the initial research, cycle I, and cycle II. The average value, in the initial study the average value of the class test was 57.33 in the first cycle, the average grade was 82.66, and in the second cycle, the average grade was 86.66. In addition, the number of students who graduated also increased, in the initial study the number of students who graduated was only 10 people (33%), and 20 other people (67%) did not graduate. In the first cycle the number of students who graduated increased to 26 people (87%) students who did not pass 4 people (13%). An increase in the number of students who graduated was also seen in cycle II the number of students who passed 30 people (100%) or thus learning with the Jigsaw Cooperative model was more appropriate to be carried out so that all students graduated.

Abstract

This study aims to apply adaptive and engaging e-learning media for students who take e-learning courses, and see how the results of learning styles and learning activities while using these media in the learning process. The research method used was an experiment. The instrument uses a learning style questionnaire and an observation sheet of e-learning activities. The findings in the experimental class students have varied learning styles such as visual, auditory and kinesthetic learning styles, from these results the kinesthetic learning styles are classified as higher, and the results of learning activities with a percentage of 73.75% are good categories. The results of the learning activities of the control class students with a percentage of 63.28% both categories. In conclusion, students use adaptive media egangging e-learning where the kinesthetic learning style is more domainic, and the results of student learning activities are higher than the results of activities using conventional e-learning media. The renewal of these findings contributes differently to previous online learning, because through adaptive and engaging e-learning media students are able to learn online according to their learning styles such as visual, kinesthetic and auditory learning styles on the website and accompanied by online learning activities.

The research method used is a mix of quantitative and qualitative instruments that are descriptive. Quantitative instrument data collection techniques in the form of questionnaires and observations, qualitative instruments in the form of documentation and interviews. The statistical results of the attitude toward science variable, the average student chooses neutral in all indicators. The reading fondness variable of indicators general attitude towards reading and students' reading preferences average students chose neutral, the effect of reading on the ability of students chose to agree, and negative views of students towards reading chose not to agree. Based on the significance of 0.048 <0.05. So it can be concluded that there is a weak correlation between the attitude and reading variables.

Abstract

This article presents theoretical and empirical reviews on the nature, rationale and the implementation of teaching model developing students’ 4C skills in the classroom. It also shares the research result conducted in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) Course of English Education Study Program. This descriptive research was conducted in the form of Research and Development Model by Gall, Gall, and Borg which resulted in the development of 4C-based learning model integrated in task-based learning framework. The expert judgement on the quality of the model proved that the developed model gained the mean score of 4.85 (from 5 Likert Scale) which means that the model was considered very good. The 4C-based learning model is a solutive learning model to be used in the 21st century in delivering TEFL course. Thus, it is expected that the lecturers of TEFL Course implement the model regularly to enable student teachers to obtain the required skills later both in their real teaching practicum and in their future career.

Abstract

Learning material books that are used today, especially in elementary schools (SD) are still full text, resulting in the low motivation of students to read them because they are not or not interesting. This study aims to develop thematic comics as learning materials in the 2013 Curriculum with the theme "Events in Life" and sub-theme 1 "Occupation of the Occupation of Nationality" in the fifth-grade elementary school. This research uses the Research and Development (R&D) method of the Dick and Carey model which consists of 10 stages. The study was conducted in fifth grade students in five elementary schools in Majalengka Regency. These results state that the thematic comic learning materials developed are suitable for use in the learning process in elementary school and show very good responses. The advantage of this thematic comic learning material is that it can integrate various subject matter into a theme that is presented into a story with various character characters in it. This comic learning material has an attraction for students because it is different from ordinary reading books in which it presents visualization of imaginative and colorful images.

Abstract

This study aims to compare their perceptions between gender and their age toward using the teachers’ feedback in their classroom. This study applied a quantitative method with survey method, which allowed the data to be quantified and analyzed using statistical analysis. In collecting the data, the Questionnaire Feedback, Identification, School Trajectories that measure their perceptions about Effective Teachers’ Feedback (EFT) and Ineffective Teachers’ Feedback (IEFT) have been used. The samples are 125 students, who are 53 boys and 72 girls, also 17 and 18 years old. The data are analyzed by descriptive statistics. The findings showed that there were statistically significant differences perceptions among students across their genders (p≤0.001) on EFT perceived. Furthermore, there is a significant difference between 17 years old students and 18 years old students (p≥0.05) on EFT perceived. As the result, the students’ gender and their age have main effect, with girls perceiving are more effective than boys, which leads them to report receiving more feedback from their teachers when compared to boys, and 18 years old students’ percept more than 17 years old students on teachers’ feedback toward their reading achievement.

Abstract

The study aims to figure out the character values of 3rd grade slow learners’ students at the Inclusive Elementary School. Variables in this research were character values involving honesty, self-confidence, and discipline in learning. The sample consisted of 10 slow learner students of 3rd grade in seven Inclusive Elementary School. Data collection techniques used observations filled by classroom teachers. Data analysis techniques used the Guttmann scale. The score for the percentage of the slow learner's character value is 100% with low categorization. The solution was to provide character education in accordance with the characteristics of the slow learners. The implication was the slow learners got a character education model with method that paid attention to the characteristics of the child. This research is expected to be the basis for further research to be able to develop a character education model based on the BST method for the slow learners in inclusive elementary schools.
