Patients of hypertension (HT), diabetes mellitus (DM) and mixed (DM-HT) have vulnerability to stress due to illness and psychosocial responses. The aim of research was to identify psychosocial distress, components and their relationship to levels of GDP, cystole/diastole and cholesterol on three groups. Quantitative survey research design for 42 people, with purposive sampling at the Manunggal Clinic. Taking psychosocial distress data with a standard questionnaire, while systole/diastole, GDP and cholesterol levels with examination in the laboratory, in April-May 2018. Analysis with Anova and Pearson test, α<0.05. Shows sufferers have low distress, moderate distress and high distress. Average score of emotional component (3.2), chronic disease management difficulties (3.2), difficulties with doctors (3.0) and difficulties with friends/people around (2.6). Anova test showed no significant difference in psychosocial distress scores (p=0,079). The Pearson test showed a weak correlation between psychosocial distress and systole; diastole; GDP and cholesterol. Conclusion: Psychosocial distress of chronic disease sufferers in Salatiga is included in the category of moderate and high distress, with the highest score on the emotional burden component and the difficulty of chronic disease management. There were no significant differences in psychosocial distress scores, blood pressure, blood sugar levels and cholesterol in the three groups.

Abstract

Occupational Safety and Health (OSH)  is an important aspect to pay attention to in the workplace. This is due to the workplace environment that has potential hazards and risks that can cause work-related accidents and diseases. Accidents and occupational diseases need to be prevented and minimized because they reduce work productivity and harm workers and business owners. The risk of accidents and occupational diseases also exists in the informal batik sector. One of the informal Batik sectors in Banyumas Regency is Batik Papringan. Papringan Batik workers have not implemented the OSH Standard Operational Procedure (SOP). This causes workers to experience health complaints such as coughing, itching, and musculoskeletal conditions. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze occupational accidents and diseases with the Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP) and its control. The research objective was to determine the hazards and risks of accidents and diseases due to the work of Batik Papringan workers. The method used is the HAZOP method. The results showed that the stooped and static sitting posture, exposure to chemicals from wax smoke and dyes and the absence of 5R (Ringkas, Rapi, Resik, Rawat, Rajin) were hazards that pose extreme risks. Risk control in the form of ergonomic work place and equipment design and compliance with the 5R and the use of PPE are the most prioritized risk controls. The conclusion from this research is that the implementation of risk control in the form of ergonomic work place and equipment design, fulfilling the 5R and the use of PPE need to be done continuously to prevent accidents and occupational diseases. Keywords: Accident, diseases, HAZOP, control,  batik

The study findings revealed that there is a correlation between Covid-19 pandemic and the development of various mental health crisis where 33 students (38.37 %) developed homesickness, 11 students (12.79%) developed anxiety and 2 students (2.33 %) manifested low-grade depression. Homesickness was outstandingly observed in females (72.72 %) whereas anxiety was highly reported in males (90.90%).  The study findings demonstrated that there is a strong negative correlation between student financial statuses and the development of homesickness (r: -0.977, P: 0.023) and anxiety (r: -0.944, P:  0.056). All in all, the fear to contract coronavirus, lockdowns, financial instability, death toll of citizens and medical professionals, run out of medical facilities and social media hoaxes are significant risk factors of mental health crisis among Pakistani international students in Indonesia.

Abstract

The estimated prevalence of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) in the general population is 1-5%. CTS can be experienced by workers who use hand strength at work. PT. X is one company that still uses manual labor in the process of packing soap and vermicelli. The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation between repetitive movements, wrist posture, age, history of illness, Body Mass Index (BMI), and years of service on CTS complaints. The research method used a cross-sectional study with a sample of 65 workers. Univariate, bivariate, and multivariate data analyses were using the chi-square and binary logistic regression test. Analysis of CTS complaints using a questionnaire and Phalen’s test. The results showed that as many as 40 workers (61.5%) experienced complaints of CTS. The results of statistical tests showed that the variable BMI was the most influential factor for the complaints of CTS (p = 0.031). In addition, workers who experience CTS complaints can also be influenced by repetitive movement (p = 0.024), age (p = 0.022), and years of service (p = 0.024). To prevent the severity and relieve complaints of CTS, packing workers can do stretching, massage, independent acupressure massage, and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Abstract

Using masks has become popular as an effort to prevent COVID-19. This increased the public consumption of masks. But in practice, this effort might cause other problems. The survey arranged to observe the potential contamination form from using masks. Specifically, it is a procedure when using and removing an inappropriate mask This descriptive study is a cross-sectional study. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire filled in by 152 respondents aged ≥15-years-old who lived in the Jabodetabek area through a link shared online on various social media. Workingat the healthcare facility was the exclusion criteria for the participants. Fabric masks were the most commonly used. The majority replaced mask with the new or clean one once a day. Touched outer side of masks was the habit of most participants with lack of hand-hygiene practice. Potential self-contamination from inhaling pathogens, direct or indirect, released by the infected person when coughing, sneezing, even when talking, sourced themselves or others. Environmental contamination could occur due to lack of hand hygiene practice before wear masks, and after-touch while in use and after-remove it. Hence, educate the community for proper procedure use of masks and hand hygiene practice is necessary to prevent contamination and spread of diseases.

Abstract

Since 2013, the government of Denpasar City has adopted smoke-free law (KTR). However, the implementation of this law faces several obstacles, one of which is the high social acceptability of smoking in the community. Cigarettes and smoking have been deeply embedded within social and cultural life of the community and become part of the hospitality. Hence, this study aims to explore the social norms of smoking and the potency of local wisdom as a social enforcement for smoking behavior particularly at worship places. This study was a qualitative study located in four sub-districts in Denpasar. Informants and participants were selected purposively. Data was collected through in-depth interviews and FGDs. The study succeeded in interviewing 14 informants and conducting 3 FGDs. The results show that smoking in public places remains common among male, particularly adolescents and the elderly. Smoking behavior is perceived as group identity, however also considered less beneficial due to moral value. Community leaders also noticed smoking in public places. Hence, those leaders have important role to control smoking behavior in public places. Moreover, public education, supervision and enforcement should be considered to engage cultural approach and establish local policy which could accelerate the social enforcement in the community.

Abstract

Radiation protection is an action or effort taken to reduce the effects of damaging radiation exposure. Therefore, it is necessary to routinely monitor the condition of workers, among others, with a whole-body counter (WBC) either for daily activities or in a radiation emergency. In this research 78 male and female workers with an average age of 44.51 years old who have been worked for 1 up to more than 30 years at the Center for Technology of Radiation Safety and Metrology (PTKMR) - BATAN in 2018-2019 have been determined with standard procedures. The results showed that the average K-40 count for the year 2018 was 3767.35 ± 975.33 Bq. Among the 80 participants tested, internal radio-isotopic contamination with Cs-137 was detected in one person, but the levels were marginal and just exceeded the detection limit (250 Bq/body). This average value was lower than that of the previous year (2017) i.e. 4274.74 ± 740.85 Bq for 43 respondents. There is no positive correlation between radioactivity with the bodyweight of respondents but correlated positively with body mass index. It is concluded that the radio-activities of the workers of PTKMR are still within a normal range.
