Abstract

Religious spirituality is an essential requirement for every individual to attain a significant and tranquil existence. A method to attain this is by religious studies. Similar to society at large, individuals who are deaf also require the tranquility afforded by a profound religious devotion. Consequently, access to religious education is vital. In both informal and non-formal education, religious learning activities, including Islamic studies that aid deaf individuals' comprehension via sign language, remain significantly restricted. Consequently, a deaf da'wah community was established in Magetan Regency, East Java. The issues encountered included the reliance of da'wah execution on the discretion of the individual responsible and the considerable distances involved, which ultimately resulted in the creation of this digital-based da'wah medium for the hearing impaired. This study seeks to provide digital da'wah media for individuals with hearing impairments to enhance their religious devotion efficiently. The employed methodology was the Research and Development approach utilizing the ADDIE paradigm. This study determined that the produced film was appropriate for application and associated with the enhancement of religious spirituality within the deaf community that utilized it. The significant value derived from the correlation test is 0.001, which is below the threshold of 0.05, so substantiating this claim. The computed r value of 0.728 exceeds the tabulated r value of 0.468. These two measurements suggest a link between the deaf congregants' comprehension of Islamic teachings and their religious spiritual dispositions. This study concludes that H₀ is rejected and Hₐ is accepted, so affirming a favorable correlation between religious comprehension and the spiritual attitudes of deaf attendees.

Abstract

This study investigates the obstacles encountered by Islamic Education (PAI) instructors in implementing the Merdeka Belajar Curriculum and the tactics utilized to overcome these difficulties. The Merdeka Curriculum represents a significant reform in Indonesia's educational system, prioritizing differentiated learning, learner autonomy, and flexible instructional design, necessitating that educators modify their pedagogical approaches to accommodate students' varied skills and needs. Nonetheless, its execution in Islamic Education poses unique obstacles. Data were gathered using a qualitative descriptive methodology through in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis with PAI teachers at the junior secondary level. The findings identify several significant obstacles, including inadequate conceptual comprehension of the curriculum framework, insufficient professional development and socialization, challenges in creating differentiated learning materials, ambiguous operational guidelines, weak institutional support, and limited leadership engagement. These obstacles impede instructors' pedagogical preparedness and diminish the efficacy of curriculum execution in classroom practice. In response, educators have implemented many coping mechanisms, including peer cooperation, self-directed learning, and informal instructional modifications. Nonetheless, these endeavors continue to be disjointed and predominantly solitary in character. This study highlights the critical necessity for systematic and ongoing professional development, robust instructional leadership, and cohesive policy support to improve teachers' ability to effectively execute the Merdeka Belajar Curriculum in Islamic Religious Education. The results enhance overarching dialogues regarding curriculum reform and educator preparedness within faith-based educational settings.

Abstract

This study explores the role of Majelis Taklim Pitulasan in fostering women’s spiritual transformation in Kampung Magersaren, Blitar. The research adopts a qualitative approach using a case study method, with data collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana model to ensure the validity and accuracy of the findings. The findings reveal that Majelis Taklim Pitulasan plays a significant role as a facilitator, motivator, and educator in enhancing the spirituality of its female members. The assembly reinforces religious discipline, such as consistent prayer practices, and provides psychological benefits, including increased inner peace and self-confidence. Furthermore, the fiqh al-nisā’ (women’s jurisprudence) studies delivered in the group have helped participants better understand and appreciate women’s roles in Islam. The assembly also contributes to building social solidarity through voluntary contributions and community-based activities that strengthen bonds among its members. This study affirms that non-formal religious education through majelis taklim has a transformative impact on women’s religious lives, both in ritual and social aspects. The findings underscore the importance of optimizing community-based learning methods to enhance the effectiveness of sustainable Islamic education.

Abstract

Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) are crucial in cultivating youth’s character, especially by imparting virtues such as discipline and religiosity. Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) Malang implements a systematic approach of rewards and penalties to foster these characteristics in pupils. This study examines the conception, implementation, and assessment of the reward-and-punishment system at Thursina IIBS in cultivating students’ disciplinary and religious character. Employing a descriptive qualitative methodology with a case study framework, data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. Research indicates that the institution utilises a merit-demerit point system developed in collaboration with the educational and character development departments. The system is embedded in daily activities, supported by digital platforms and tangible resources, including banners, Smart TVs, and visual cues. Consistent character assessment through musyawarah with asatidz and the Tazkiyatun Nafs initiatives further augments student growth. The study finds that the system promotes consistent and sustainable character development through a balanced integration of technical, spiritual, and educational experiences.

Abstract

This study proposes a reconstruction of Islamic social education by re-evaluating the concept of Zakat through the lens of Tafsir Al-Qur’an Al-Majid An-Nur by Hasbi Ash-Shiddieqy. While Zakat is traditionally taught as a static pillar of jurisprudence (fiqh), this research identifies a critical pedagogical gap: its potential as a catalyst for social transformation remains underutilised. Employing a qualitative library research methodology, the study performs a thematic excavation of Zakat-related exegesis in Ash-Shiddieqy’s work, synthesising classical interpretations with modern social education theories. The findings reveal a “Qur’anic Sunnah” that inextricably links prayer (Salah) to Zakat, forming a dual mission of individual spiritual growth and collective societal improvement. Ash-Shiddieqy’s exegesis presents Zakat as a sophisticated instrument of thaharah (purification) across three dimensions: wealth, the soul, and the community. Furthermore, the study highlights an educational “shock therapy” in the text, in which the enforcement of Zakat, symbolised by the historical precedent of the first Caliphate, establishes an absolute social contract that transcends individual property rights. By expanding the interpretation of the eight asnaf (beneficiaries) into a framework for sustainable community development, this research offers a novel social-educational paradigm. The study concludes that reconstructing Islamic education through the Zakat concept shifts the pedagogical focus from passive ritualism to active orthopraxis, providing a humanistic framework essential for addressing contemporary moral crises and achieving structural social justice.

Abstract

This study examines the integration of al-Kitāb (scriptural knowledge) and al-Ḥikmah (wisdom-based education) in the educational philosophy of Majid Irsan al-Kilani and its relevance to the pesantren curriculum in Indonesia. The integration of revelation and reason has become increasingly urgent in response to contemporary challenges in Islamic education, including the dichotomy between religious and secular sciences, moral fragmentation, and the loss of epistemological coherence. Al-Kilani proposes a holistic curricular paradigm that unites divine guidance with rational inquiry and ethical formation. Using a qualitative library research approach, this study analyzes classical Islamic sources and modern educational theories to explore how pesantren can operationalize this integrative framework. The findings show that pesantren, with their epistemological foundations in kitab kuning, character formation, experiential learning, and spiritual mentorship, possess strong structural and cultural capital to implement such integration. The proposed curriculum model consists of three progressive levels that combine jurisprudence, logic, and ethics while cultivating intellectual depth and spiritual maturity. Strengthened by systematic evaluation and guided by holistic educators (rabbānīyūn), pesantren can effectively address contemporary educational fragmentation through an integrated vision of knowledge.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the perspectives on social capital in fostering religious moderation among students, particularly in the Faculty of Islamic Studies at Muhammadiyah University of Jakarta. This study employs a qualitative, descriptive-analytical approach with a case study method, involving 12 students from the Islamic Religious Education Study Program in semesters 2–6 as research subjects, selected through purposive sampling. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews, observations, and review of supporting documents, both primary and secondary. The results of the study indicate that social capital has a significant role in internalizing the values of moderation among various students. Students who have extensive social networks, mutual trust, and active involvement in student organizations tend to exhibit a more open, inclusive, and tolerant attitude towards religion. Factors that influence the formation of students’ social capital include: (1) the multicultural social environment of the campus, (2) involvement in student organizations, (3) the role of lecturers and educational policy institutions, and (4) personal experiences and family background. These four factors contribute to the formation of students’ moderate character in religion and social interactions.

Abstract

This research aims to reinterpret the role of educators from the perspective of K.H. Ahmad Dahlan amid the phenomenon of educational influencers on social media TikTok. The development of the digital space has presented new educational figures that greatly influence students’ motivation and character, mainly Generation Z. The research uses a qualitative approach with critical discourse analysis in this context. It uses Surah Al-Ma’un and Al-'Ashr as normative frameworks in analyzing Islam’s educational values and social practices in digital content. The data was collected through observations, TikTok content documentation, and in-depth interviews with six students and two teachers at two secondary schools in Tulungagung Regency. The study results show that educational influencers have played a role as non-formal educational agents with the power of symbolic capital that students widely accept. As many as 68% of students actively follow educational content on TikTok, and 60% say it is easier to understand the messages conveyed by influencers than teachers in the classroom. Within the framework of Bourdieu and Counts’ theory, these findings show a shift in educational authority and the emergence of new learning habits based on relationships and personal experiences. From the perspective of K.H. Ahmad Dahlan, this phenomenon can be seen as a new form of digital charity practice that, if directed by Islamic values, has the potential to strengthen the transformation of education that is grounded and adaptive in the digital era.
