Abstract

Abstract

Humans have an important role in protecting nature or the environment; therefore, environmental ethics are needed to preserve the environment. The Adiwiyata program can instill environmental ethics in school communities, especially students. This research was conducted to describe environmental ethics as reflected in the behavior of elementary school students around the school canteen. The indicators of environmental ethics observed around the canteen included: (1) responsibility for the environment, (2) solidarity with the environment, (3) compassion and care for nature or the environment, (4) not damaging nature or the environment, and (5) living simply and in harmony with nature. This type of research was descriptive research, and the research instruments were observation and interviews. The results showed that environmental ethics had not yet been reflected in students’ behavior. Student awareness in protecting the environment was still low, as seen from the lack of environmental ethics in their behavior. Schools should pay more attention to environmental ethics in students’ behavior and implement activities that can instill or enhance environmental ethics among students.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the low level of students’ narrative essay writing skills. Several factors contributed to this condition, including students’ low interest and boredom in writing activities, limited vocabulary mastery, difficulties in word choice and spelling, and inadequate use of punctuation. As a result, students’ essays tended to be very simple, generally consisting of only one to two sentences, and lacked coherence between sentences, which prevented the formation of well-structured paragraphs. Students also experienced confusion in using punctuation marks such as periods, commas, question marks, and exclamation points correctly. This study aimed to determine the effect of using flash card media on the narrative essay writing skills of third-grade students at SDN 188 Pekanbaru. The research employed a quasi-experimental method using a nonequivalent control group design. The population of this study consisted of third-grade students at SDN 188 Pekanbaru, with Class IIIA (40 students) as the control group and Class IIIB (40 students) as the experimental group. The sampling technique used was saturated sampling. The research instrument was an essay test in the form of a narrative writing assignment. Hypothesis testing was conducted using the t-test and Effect Size (ES) analysis. The results showed that the use of flash card media had a significant effect on students’ narrative writing skills, with the magnitude of the effect categorized as medium.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the weak learning motivation of students in the teaching and learning process, which was indicated by students’ passive behavior and lack of enthusiasm. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there was an effect of reinforcement on students’ learning motivation and to identify the magnitude of its influence. This study employed a quantitative approach with an experimental research type, using a pre-experimental design. The pre-experimental design applied was the one-group pretest–posttest design. The subjects of this study were 27 fifth-grade students of SDN 018 Rantau Sialang, consisting of 8 male students and 19 female students. The variables in this study were reinforcement and students’ learning motivation. Data were collected through documentation and questionnaires. The validity test used the Pearson product-moment formula, while the reliability test used the Alpha formula. The prerequisite analysis test employed a normality test using the Kolmogorov–Smirnov One-Sample test with SPSS 17.0 for Windows. Hypothesis testing was conducted using the t-test with the assistance of SPSS, followed by an effect size test. The results showed that reinforcement had a significant effect on students’ learning motivation, as indicated by the t-test results at significance levels of 1% and 5%, namely tcount > ttable, at the 1% level (7.751 > 1.298) and at the 5% level (7.751 > 1.674). The calculation of the effect size obtained an ES value of 3.146, which was categorized as high because the effect size exceeded 0.8. It can be concluded that reinforcement had a significant effect on the learning motivation of fifth-grade students at SDN 018 Rantau Sialang, Kecamatan Kuantan Mudik, Kabupaten Kuantan Singingi, with a high effect category.
