Abstract

Economic growth is a primary development goal. While national economic growth trended upwards 0,16% from 2014 to 2018, a different trend emerged at the provincial level. In the other side, regional government spending, that bolster local economic growth, across all provinces and districts/cities has increased. Hence, despite rising spending in many regions, economic growth trends downward. This study seeks to analyze whether local government spending, classified by economic category, influences regional economic growth.  Using data of 37 provinces and applying Panel ECGLS, regression data presents mixed findings. Capital expenditure, interest expenditure, social transfer expenditure, and unexpected expenditure show statistically negative and significant effects on economic growth, while other expenditure components do not. This suggests that local government spending is ineffective and crowds out private consumption, leading to a decline in regional economic growth.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify the potential of the creative economy in the craft industry subsector in Madura that can be developed as an economic potential through cluster grouping with K-Means Clustering analysis technique. The results of this study indicate that the craft industry in Madura has not fully entered into a dynamic cluster. The problems that result in some craft industries in Madura that have not entered into dynamic clusters are due to weak spatial identity, weak specialist supplier networks, lack of economic specialization, still not optimal labor specialization, still using simple production technology and unable to innovate products, and not having a network of business partners resulting in minimal development of market information obtained.

Abstract

This study analyzes the role of zakat in promoting social justice and income redistribution in Indonesia, using BAZNAS National financial reports from 2022–2023 as a case study. Employing a descriptive quantitative approach, the research evaluates collection efficiency, distribution effectiveness, asnaf allocation, and the estimated impact on poverty and inequality. The findings show an 18.9% increase in zakat collection, though still low relative to national potential (CER 0.28%). Distribution effectiveness reached 78.24%, with the largest allocations assigned to the fakir and fisabilillah categories. The average transfer per beneficiary amounted to Rp619,380 (1.18× the national poverty line), indicating the effectiveness of zakat as a micro-level redistributive tool. However, its macro-level impact on reducing inequality remains limited. The results highlight the need for greater collection scale.

Abstract

The study aims to investigate the impact of the Human Development Index in Indonesia from 1990 to 2022 on inflation, unemployment, foreign direct investment, imports, and poverty. An Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model is used for the analysis of annual data from 1990–2022 obtained from the United Nations Development Programme and the World Bank (2024). The study's results show that the unemployment variable has a significant negative effect on Indonesia's Human Development Index (HDI) in the short term, but is not significant in the long term. The inflation variable has a significant negative impact on Indonesia's HDI in both the short and long term. Foreign direct investment has a positive and significant effect on Indonesia's HDI in the short term.

Abstract

Income inequality remains a critical issue in Indonesia, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 10, which emphasizes reducing inequality. The Special Region of Yogyakarta recorded the highest income disparity the period from 2021 to 2023, despite being know as a region with relatively high human development achievement. This study analyzes the effects of minimum wage, human development index (HDI), the number of poor people, and beneficiary families on income inequality using panel data regression. Results show that while minimum wage and beneficiary families have no significant effect. The findings suggest that development improvements have not yet ensured equitable income distribution, highlighting the need for targeted policies to sustainably reduce income inequality.
