Abstract

The objective of this research is to examine the effect of transportation distance on haemoglobin, hematocrit, erythrocytes, plasmaglucose, triglyceride and cholesterol of broilers.  Two hundred and fifty two broilers with an average body weight of 2.0 ± 0.08 kg were dividedinto transportation distance namely T1: 60 km, T2: 120 km, T3: 180 km. The data were analyzed by Anova whenthere was a significant effect Duncan test was conducted. Longer transportation distance significantly decreased plasma hemoglobin, hematocrit and triglyceride (P≤0,05), while erythrocytes, glucose and cholesterol level were not significantly affected (P>0.05).The conclusion of this study is broiler transport at a distance of 120 km has reduced hemoglobin, hematocrit, and plasma triglyceride levels.

Abstract

The study was conducted to evaluate the effect of steaming up using Gliricidia sepium in dry period on the performanceof Etawah Crossbred goats kid production. Twelve goats were selected based on lactation period with the following treatments: (1) T0 as a control, (2) T1 as a treatment for steaming up 0.4% DM, and (3) T2 as a steaming up 0.8% DM. All experiment restricted to the same basal concentrate diet 0.9% DM and ad-libitum of Pennisetum purpureum. The obtained data were analyzed using analysis of variance. The difference in data was analyzed by Duncan's Multiple Distance Test. The result was T2 treatment had a low level of weight loss and BCS at parturition compared to T0 and T1, but had no significant different (P>0.05). Birth weight, weaning weight, and ADG of goats kid were not significantly different between the treatments (P>0.05). The conclusion of this study is that steaming up using Gliricidia sepium by 0.8% based on DM needs in the dry period showed a low decrease in the rate of body weight and low BCS. The steaming up treatment also shows the highest birth weight, weaning weight, and highest ADG.

Abstract

The purposes of this study were determine the carcass characteristics and physical meat quality of Brahman Cross Steer on different rest periods. The experiment was conducted on June 2015 at Slaughter house Cianjur Arta Makmur Ltd. in the Cianjur District, West Java. The total number of cattle used in the study was 30 heads of Brahman Cross Steer treated for 18 hours lairage duration and 30 heads of Brahman Cross Steer treated for 3 hours lairage duration from Pasir Tengah feedloter Ltd (Holding Widodo Makmur Perkasa Ltd). The method used a case study. Data were analyzed using unpaired t test. The results showed that the carcass characteristics including slaughtered weight, hot carcass weight, chilled carcass weight and carcass weight loss percentage were not significantly different, while the dressing percentage for 18 hours lairage duration (54.16±1.62%) and 3 hours lairage duration (55.60±2.00%) was significantly different (P<0.05). Physical meat quality including cooking loss and drip loss was not significantly different, while pH on 18 hours lairage duration and 3 hours lairage duration was significantly different (P<0.05). The pH value of meat derived from cattle which treated for 18 hours lairage duration (5.57±0.09) was higher than that of 3 hours lairage duration (5.42±0.11) although it remained normal for pH (5.4-5.7). It was concluded that 18 and 3 hours lairage duration did not affect slaughtered weight, hot carcass weight, chilled carcass weight, and carcass weight loss, but affected the dressing percentage. In addition, the lairage duration did not affect the cooking loss and drip loss but affected the pH value of the meat. Keywords: drip loss, cooking loss, fattening, pH

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the performance of broiler partnership program with importance performance analysis (IPA) approach and analyze its performance attributes that need to be improved and maintained in Kampar Regency, Riau Province. This descriptive study was done by using survey research methods on plasma farmers who has partnered with poultry companies, consisted of 30 plasma farmers in partnership with foreign capital companies, 10 plasma farmers in partnership with multinational companies and 6 plasma farmers in partnership with local companies. The samples were selected with purposive sampling method. The results of this study showed that the average service performance of the foreign capital partnership was 94.57 (very good), the multinational partnership was 95.22 (very good), while the local company partnership was 66.44 (good). Moreover, the local company partnership showed poor attributes on the feed quality and compensation. The service attributes that should be maintained by the foreign capital partnership were the suitability of harvest time, the response to all complaints, the suitability of output prices and the provision of compensation. Multinational partnership service attributes that should be maintained were the application of DOC contract prices, suitability of harvest time, response to all complaints, suitability of output prices, bonus price, and compensation. Moreover, the attributes of the services by the local company partnership that should be maintained were the drugs and vaccines qualities, technical guidance frequency as well as services and guidance material.

Abstract

This study was aimed to understand the goog condition of temperature and pH in the cheese making with immobilized rennin enzyme from M. pusillus. Rennin from M. pusillus was produced using corn starch as substrate, incubated at 370C for 116 hours. Immobilization was conducted with entrapment method using alginate. Proteolytic and milk-clotting activities of enzyme was measured. Furthemore, the immobilized enzyme was used in the cheese production with defferent temperatures (32, 37 and 420C) and pH (5.0, 5.5 and 6.0) using Split Plot Design. It was conducted a test of pH, titratable acidity and texture for produced cheese. The result showed that the alginate matrix can be used to immobilized rennin enzyme from M. pusillus. Immobilization of rennin enxyme from M. pusillus has proteolitic activity value 0.1395 unit/ml/minute and milk-clotting activity value 6090 unit/mg protein/minute. The temperatures (32, 37 and 420C) in the cheese making using immobilized rennin enzyme M. pusillus gave a highly significant different effect (P<0,01) on texture and pH of fresh cheese. The pH (5.0, 5.5 and 6.0) gave a highly significant different effect (P<0,01) on pH and titratable acidity of fresh cheese. It is concluded that alginate can be used in the rennin enzyme immobilization. Temperature and pH gave a highly significant different effect on texture, pH and titratable acidity of fresh cheese. The temperature of 370C and pH 6.0 can be used to make a good quality cheese with immobilized rennin enzyme from M. pusilus using alginate with characters as follows : texture 1.1866 N, pH 4.94 – 5.21 and titratable acidity 1.409%.

Abstract

ABSTRACT: The study examines fat and water content, and the level of pesticide residues in rabbit’s meat which were fed cabbage leaves waste. The materials used in the study were 12 New Zealand White rabbits raised from 1.5 to 3 months of age. Those rabbits were divided into 3 different groups (large, medium and small) based on their initial body weight. The laboratory test shows there were several types of pesticide residues in the cabbage leaves and rabbit’s meat namely endosulfan, profenofos and chlorpyrifos. The lowest pesticide residues were found at small rabbit’s meat groups. In contrast, the fat content as well as the water content was found high at large rabbit’s meat groups.   Keywords: rabbits, cabbage, residues, fat content and water content

Abstract

Senyawa aktif dalam daun babadotan (Ageratum conyzoides) diketahui memiliki aktivitas antibakterial khususnya untuk menghambat perkembangan bakteri patogen. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan desinfektan herbal berbahan dasar ekstrak daun babadotan (Ageratium conyzoides) terhadap  produktivitas ayam broiler yang diketahui berdasarkan pertambahan bobot badan harian (PBBH) dan FCR (Feed Convertion Rate). Penelitian ini menggunakan desinfektan herbal daun babadotan konsentrasi 1% dan 1,5%, serta desinfektan sintetis komersian 1,5% sebagai pembanding. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa PBBH ayam broiler yang dipelihara dengan menggunakan desinfektan herbal dan sintetis tidak berbeda (P>0,05). Nilai PBBH desinfektan herbal 1% dan 1,5% adalah 35,11 dan 33,69 g/ekor/hari, sedangkan desinfektan sintetis 32,75 g/ekor/hari. Nilai FCR ayam pada pemeliharaan menggunakan desinfektan herbal juga menunjukkan hasil yang sama (P>0,05) dengan desinfektan sintetis.  Nilai FCR desinfektan herbal 1% dan 1,5%    adalah 1,6 dan 1,67. Sedangkan FCR desinfektan sintetis sebesar 1,63.  Berdasarkan data tersebut disimpulkan bahwa desinfektan herbal ekstrak daun babadotan dapat digunakan sebagai alternatif dalam kegiatan biosecurity di peternakan ayam broiler.

Abstract

Copra meal is by-product of oil extraction that is produced in large quantity and relatively cheap in Indonesia. However, its high cellulose becomes obstacle for poultry diet. Two studies was conducted to optimize the utilization of copra meal by producing crude enzyme that matched with copra meal using solid state fermentation method with various doses and incubation time that mixed with Pleurotus ostreatus (PO) and Trichoderma viridae (TV). In the first study, copra meal was fermented with 4 levels of inoculum (L0 = no inoculum; L1 = 17.7 CFU/g of TV and 175.00 CFU/g of PO per kg of copra meal; L2 = 35.4 CFU/g of TV and 218.75 CFU/g of PO per kg of copra meal; L3 = 53.1 CFU/g of TV and 262.50 CFU/g of PO per kg of copra meal and 4 incubation time (W1= 4 days; W2 = 6 days; W3 = 8 days; and W4 = 10 days). Parameters measured were crude protein, crude lipid, crude fibre and gross energy. A completely randomized factorial design was used in the study. In the second study, crude enzyme was produced from the best results found in the first study. A method of Jacob and Prema (2006) was used to produce enzyme. Meanwhile, activity of cellulase was measured based on the method of Omojosola (2008). The results showed that factor of inoculum level was found significantly increased protein content and gross energy but decreased crude lipid and crude fibre of the mixed fungi-fermented copra meal. Incubation time did not affect protein content but significanly affected crude lipid, crude fibre and gross energy. Interactions between inoculum level and incubation time was found in crude lipid, crude fibre and gross energy contents of mixed fungi-fermented copra meal. Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui periode pemaparan yang tepat dalam proses vitrifikasi terhadap morfotogi dan viabiliitas oosit sapi. Larutan vitrifikasi terdiri dari krioprotektan intraseluler etilen glikol (EG) 20%, 37%, 40%, 50% dan masing-masing konsentrasi ditambah 0,5 M sukrosa sebagai krioprotektan ekstraseluler dengan lama paparan 1 menit, 3 menit dan 5 menit. Data dianalisisdengan analisa petak terbagi dalam waktu (split plot in time). Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa kosentrasi krioprotektan dan periode pemaparan tidak berpengaruh nyata terhadap struktur morfologi oosit sapi (P>0,05), akan tetapi dari analisis data viabilitas didapatkan perbedaan yang nyata pada konsentrasi EG 20% dan 30% (P<0,05). Selain itu terdapat pula interaksi yang nyata antara konsentrasi dengan periode pemaparan (p<0,05). Hasil uji BNT(5%) menunjukkan tingkat viabilitas tertinggi diperoleh pada EG 30% dengan pemaparan 1 menit dan konsentrasi 20% dengan pemaparan 3 menit

Abstract

The use of antibiotics in animal husbandry cannot be avoided either as an act of therapy, supportive or prevention. This study was aimed to determine the existence of antibiotic residues in broiler chicken products which were produced by poultry farm and to determine the safety level of residues in the product which was associated with a drug application and harvesting time. Thigh meat and liver samples of broiler were taken when thinning and harvesting time in poultry farm at Pamijahan- Bogor using purposive sampling method. Residue testing was conducted through bioassay screening test. Positive results were followed by a confirmatory test using HPLC. Total positive samples were detected residues reached 27.08% which included the macrolide group reached 22.92% and tetracycline group reached 4.17%. These residues were found in the liver, reaching 50% of the total sample of the liver. In addition, 53.85% of the positive samples came from broiler chicken samples taken during thinning period. Macrolide antibiotics in liver samples were detected in the form of erythromycin with the level compounds between 0085 - 0702 ppm. Moreover, 90.9% of the samples had levels exceeding MRL defined in SNI 01-6366-2000 and CAC/MRL-2-2012. Tetracycline antibiotic was detected in the form of doxycycline with the level compounds between 0-0067 ppm on thigh meat and 0-0085 ppm in the liver although these levels were still below the MRL. The residues existence was closely related to the drug dose and farmer’s knowledge about withdrawal time. Keyword: antibiotic, residue, broiler, drug dose,harvesting time
