Abstract

This research aims to understand the effect of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) on the body length and head diameter of chicken embryos. The samples used in this research were 3 days chicken egg embryos weighed at 55 g. The samples were divided into two groups, the control group (without DMSO) and treatment group (injected with 0.25 mL of 2% DMSO). Each group was incubated at 38oC for 10 days, and the observed variables were embryos body length and head diameter through macroscopic observation. The results showed that 2% DMSO did not affect the embryos body length, but increase its head diameter. The research concludes that DMSO can be used as chemical solvent with consideration of its effect on the increased embryos head diameter.

Abstract

This research was conducted to evaluate the use of Jack bean (Canavalia ensiformis), the level of protein diet, and the supplementation of protease enzymes to the size response of the starter phase of Broiler chicken digestive organs. Birds used in this study were 48 broilers of male chickens which were distributed into 3 observation factors and 3 replications (each replication consisted of 2 samples). The observation factor is Factor 1 are ingredients (basal diet based on soybean meal and a diet containing Jack bean), the second factor is the level of protein (22% and 19.5%) and the third factor is enzyme treatment (without enzymes and the addition of proteases). The design used was a completely randomized factorial design (RALF) and analysis of variance. The results showed that the decrease in protein level (from 22% to 19.5%) significantly high (P <.0.01) increased the length of the jejunum but could be reduced to produce the same length as basal feed (PK 22%) with the addition of the protease enzyme. The use of Jack bean significantly (P <0.05) increases the length of the jejunum but is reduced by the addition of the protease enzyme to the same as the basal diet produced by soybean meal. The addition of protease enzymes significantly reduced ileum weight and total small intestine weight (P <0.05) and significantlydecreased jejunum length (P <0.01). There was no interaction between ingredient, level of protein, and protease enzymes on size response of digestibility broiler organ.

Abstract

Corn is a feedstuff that use as a major component of energy sources and hard to be replaced other feedstuff in poultry ration, even its use is always above 45% in the composition of poultry feed. However, domestic maize availability is limited and the price is changes depend on season harvest time, and most of the availability for animal feed is still imported. Besides that, there is a ban on the use of Antibiotic Growth Promoter (AGP) in poultry feed and drinking water effectively since January 2018, so an effort is needed to replace AGP with natural feed additives or Natural growth promoters (NGP). Based on the above conditions, it is necessary to make efforts to replace corn with local feed ingredients, one of which is apple extraction pomace (apple pomaces). The pomace of apple extraction, if left unchecked, will quickly rot so that it will potentially as an environmental pollutant. The potential of apple pomace extract can be used as a feed ingredient with high sugar and energy content (2300 kcal/kg BK). This research was conducted in the Field Laboratory of Sumber Sekar, Laboratory of Animal Nutrition and Feed, Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Agricultural Technology Laboratory, Brawijaya University. The experiment used 192 DOC broilers and placed them in 8 postal cages per replication. Research on Enzymanted apple pomaces (EAP) as a substitute for corn used a completely randomized design (CRD) P0: basal feed, P1: substitution of EAP 5%, P2: substitution of EAP 10%, P3: substitution of EAP 15%. The variables observed were the production performances include (feed consumption, weight gain, feed conversion ration) and the % internal organs. Based on the research, the results were not significantly different on the production performances and the % of organs in broilers. The use of apple pomaces can be used as a substitute for broiler feed up to a level of 15%.

Abstract

Indonesia is the largest economy in the Southeast Asia region, with the largest population in that region as well. Therefore, each productive and industrial sector that helps the growth and development of the country and its population gets attraction. The livestock sector can be a good example of the above. In this sense, the countries that make up the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR), that is, Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay (Venezuela is suspended) can contribute to develop the livestock sector in Indonesia, looking for further cooperation and business opportunities that can also help to improve the well-being of Indonesians. The objective in this article will be to make a brief approach to the Indonesian livestock sector in general and the beef market, to understand how the MERCOSUR countries could contribute to the development of that. The results of the analysis indicate that Indonesia should develop its livestock sector using best practices that contribute to sustainable development, with support from the public sector. The use of new technologies could contribute to the improvement of the sector, and bovine genetics can contribute to a greater and better supply. It is concluded that the MERCOSUR countries have opportunities to contribute to the growth and development of the livestock sector in Indonesia, through the signing of relevant legal agreements both at the bilateral level and, in the case of MERCOSUR, acting as a bloc.

Abstract

The reports about how are farmers able to prevent, identify and treat the animal diseases to not get worse while the production is still maintained, are limited. The application of the standard good farming practices is also not well documented. Therefore, to provide adequate information about beef cattle health management in smallholders, especially in Indonesia; this study was conducted at "Putra Nusa " Beef Cattle Group, located in Kalensari Hamlet, Kondangjajar Village, Cijulang District, Pangandaran Regency. The study was carried out by survey and observation to determine the farmers' level of knowledge about health, care and treatment of beef cattle. The result showed that farmers do not have a background in animal health, resulting in a lack of knowledge about beef cattle health management. Most breeders rely on natural ingredients to treat sick animals. Farmer's concern about vaccination and routine anthelmintic administration was only about 15% and 22%, respectively, contributed to the increase of helminthiasis cases (45%). Improve the knowledge about cattle diseases supported by the easy access to veterinarian will minimize the losses of breeders.

Abstract

Toxoplasmosis is a zoonosis that is transmitted from animals to humans. The definitive landlady of toxoplasmosis is a cat. However, goats can be infected by this disease. One third of the world's humans are estimated to be infected with toxoplasmosis. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors that influence the incidence of toxoplasmosis in humans and animals. The research method is by serological testing of toxoplasmosis in humans using ELISA and serological testing of toxoplasmosis in goats and sheep using ToMAT. The results showed that the prevalence of toxoplasmosis in humans was 15.1% while in goats it was 61.1% and in sheep it was 58.9%. Risk factors that influence the incidence of toxoplasmosis are maintenance management factors such as feeding from grass that take it from fields, provision of drinking water collected, procedures for providing cages, and also cat litter available. While health management factors that become risk factors are separated of sick animals. Potential human transmission through knowledge, attitudes and practices of farmers related to the control of toxoplasmosis. The conclusion of this study is the need for socialization to farmers to improve knowledge, attitudes and practices of farmers related to maintenance management and health enforcement factors that are a risk of transmitting toxoplasmosis, enclosure sanitation and maintenance management.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effect of protease enzyme supplementation and NSP on feed containing I. Zollingeriana to improve performance and metabolic energy in quails. This study used 192 female quails with a Coturnix-coturnix japonica strain aged 42 days. The experimental design used in this study was a completely randomized design (CRD), with four treatments and four replications, with treatments being R1 = Basal Feed, R2 = Feed containing 10% I. Zollingeriana, R3 = R1 + protease enzyme, and R4 = R1 + NSP enzyme. The parameters observed in this study were feed consumption, hen day, egg mass production, feed conversion, mortality, and metabolic energy. The results showed that feeding containing 10% of I. Zollingeriana was able to increase the consumption, decrease the egg mass production, increase feed convertion and reduce the nitrogen retention.  The addition of the NSP enzyme can increase quil performance which were fed containing 10% I. Zollingeriana. The use of NSP and protease enzymes can increase the retention value of quail ration containing I. Zollingeriana leaves.

Abstract

Queen bees are castes in the colony tasked with producing eggs to survive a bee colony. The Queen is the only one tail in the colony and can produce eggs to be a prospective queen bee, worker and stud. The eggs of would-be queen bees and would-be worker bees are fertilized fertile eggs. The fertilization process occurs shortly before the egg is laid inside the base of the hive so that when hatching, the larvae of the would-bees Queen and prospective worker bees are the same. Honeybee cultivation, in general, still relies on conventional means, especially in the development of queen populations as well as bee populations within colonies. Beekeepers still rely heavily on the rejuvenation of queen bees through natural means by relying on colonies to not optimal the time and results obtained. The short-term goal is to get quality queen bees with the best morphol-ogy mass and quickly through grafting worker larvae. The long-term goal is to assist farmers in the procurement of quality queen bees in a mass and fast way as needed with optimal results. Method : (1). Make a queen by grafting worker larvae then developed inside a particular colony until becoming an individual to get the queen bee. (2) Devel-op grafting queen bees to get the best production.

Abstract

Compared to chickens, ducks still have low productivity and other limitations.  One of the causes of these problems might be attributed to the off-odor found in duck meat.  Therefore, production performance and meat quality of ducks need to be improved.  The inclusion of extracts of betel (Piper betle Linn) leaves and torch ginger (Etlingera elatior) flowers wereas done to improve production performance and meat quality of local ducks. This study was aimed at assessing the effects of the inclusion of betel leaves and torch ginger flowers in the basal rations on production performance and meat quality of local ducks in the growing phase. A completely randomized factorial design in 4 x 4 with three replicates was used.  The first factor consisted of four levels of torch ginger flower solution, namely 0, 2.5, 5, and 7.5%.  The second factor consisted of four levels of betel leaf solution, namely 0, 2.5, 5, and 7.5%. Results showed that no significant differences (P>0.05) were found in body weight gain, feed intake, feed conversion, mortality rate and meat quality (pH, water holding capacity, tenderness and cooking loss).  It was concluded that the inclusion of extract of betel leaves and torch ginger flowers did not improve production performance and meat quality of male local ducks.

Abstract

Sawang duck is one of Indonesia's local dual-purpose type ducks due to the offspring of Tsaiya ducks originating from Taiwan. Tsaiya ducks enter the Sawangarea, brought by residents from Singapore around 1955 and subsequently bred in the Sawang Village, adapting to the environment and the local farming. This research was conducted in August-December 2018. Primary data on the qualitative,  morphometric, and potential feed were taken in Sawang Village, Karimun Regency, Riau Islands Province. Currently, Sawang duck is only found in Sawang Village, maintained by two farmers. Secondary data of potential areas and poultry populations were obtained from the Department of Food and Agriculture of Karimun Regency, and proximate analysis was carried out at the Ruminant Nutrition Laboratory, Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Andalas University. The research method was conducted by survey with census sampling techniques. The Sawang duck has a diversity of colors for feather, skin, beak, and shank. The morphometric decrease was indicated by bodyweight of 1,450 ± 119.52 grams, femur length of 7.41 ± 1.62 cm, tibia length of 9.94 ± 0.51 cm, length of shank 4.38 ± 0.25 cm, third finger length 6.36 ± 0.90 cm, maxilla length 5.21 ± 0.16 cm, backbone length 20.13 ± 1.13 cm, wing bone length 26.65 ± 1.70 cm, bone length chest 10.63 ± 0.80 cm, and shank circumference 1.24 ± 0.10 cm. Efforts to preserve ducks Sawangneed to be considered so that their existence is not destroyed by exploiting the existing area's potential.
